“There you go, being all serious again,” Oliver said, sighing in mock-exasperation.
“Do you ever take anything seriously?” I asked him, beginning to feel frustrated again.
Oliver leaned down and kissed me, and I could feel myself responding to him, the feelings spreading from somewhere deep inside. He pulled away, looking down at me seriously. I swallowed hard, lost for words.
“Maybe I’m not serious enough, and maybe sometimes you’re too serious,” Oliver said slowly. “But that doesn’t mean that we can’t work things out between us.”
“Opposites attract?” I asked weakly, still feeling the kiss.
Oliver grinned at me. “I’ll make a romantic out of you yet,” he said. Then he looked serious again. “We don’t have to solve everything right now.”
I wrinkled my nose. “Take it slow?” I echoed. “Oliver Lewin, I’m disappointed in you. I thought you’d have me in your bed the moment I touched down in New York!”
Oliver’s eyes darkened. “I didn’t mean ‘take it slow’ like, we shouldn’t have sex,” he said. He tugged me closer to him, so that my lower body was flush against his. I couldn’t help gasping quietly, feeling how hard he was. “In fact, we’d better walk quickly to get to my apartment,” he said. “Or else the tabloids are going to have something major to talk about, because I don’t know how much longer I can keep my hands off you.”
I laughed and chased after him as he ran down the sidewalk, my fingers twisted in his. We might not have had everything figured out yet, but I had a feeling that things were just like they were always meant to be.
