“How do you do that?” I asked.

  “Do what?”

“Make him obey you. He simply ignores me,” I admitted.

“Babe, you’ve got to mean what you say. Dogs know their alpha.”

My stomach did a somersault. “So you’re an alpha, huh?” I asked, but I already knew the answer. Something about this guy made me want to do what he told me to do—Cocky wasn’t the only one.

Caden didn’t respond, and that made my stomach somersault a second time. It also made my clit pulse. I crossed my legs.

  He chuckled.

There’s no fucking way he can know—

“Where are you taking me?” I asked. “I didn’t have time to get a hotel yet. I wanted to explore Emerald Bay and then decide what I wanted to do next, but that’s not happening now.” I paused. “I can make a call—“

“No need.” He said simply. “I’m taking you to my cabin. Not going to let you out of my sight, Avery. I’m going to take care of you.”

A cacophony of thoughts converged in my mind.

Who do you think you are?

I can’t go with you, I don’t even know you.

But you want to know what won?

That pulse lightly throbbing between my legs, and the comfort that blanketed me when he said, I’m going to take care of you.

  Chapter 4

Avery was standing next to the living room window. She’d changed into black yoga pants and a white t-shirt, and damn, she looked good in my cabin.

She was tall and lithe, at least 5’8” and very fit. She had strong thighs, a runner maybe, and a narrow waist with curves in all the right places. Even her oversized t-shirt couldn’t hide the swell of her breasts, especially with her arms hugging her stomach.

Truth be told, I wanted to take her into my bedroom and do a very thorough exam—in part to make sure she was okay—and in part to explore every inch of her gorgeous body.

She needed to relax, to release some of the stress she was holding, and I had the perfect plan to help her do just that.

“It’s beautiful, Caden. Is this your cabin or are you renting it?” Her voice was soft, mixed with awe, as she looked out the living room window toward the lake, and the mountains beyond.

I felt a stirring down below. Not quite yet.

“It’s mine. It’s been in my family for a few generations. My grandfather willed it to me when he passed, and I’ve spent the last several months updating it.”

I grabbed two glasses from the bar and moved toward her, “Here, drink this.”

Her eyebrow rose, and her eyes challenged mine, but she acquiesced.

  Good girl, I thought.

  “What is it?”

“Just what the doctor ordered,” I told her.

Our fingertips brushed when she took it. I was rewarded with wide eyes and a smile. She had little flecks of gold in her hazel-colored eyes, and they danced when she smiled. Fucking adorable.

“You said you’re a doctor. What’s your specialty?” She asked.

  “Ex-SEAL.” My eyes held hers.

Both of her eyebrows raised and her mouth formed an O, her green eyes widening. “Impressive. No wonder you handled the whole situation today with ease.”

I laughed. “No offense, babe, but a panic attack is mild compared to what I deal—dealt with—on a daily basis.”

“No offense taken,” she assured me. “So you’re out?”

  “As of three months ago.”

“Ah, which is why the cabin is being updated.”

I smiled, watching her. She took a deep breath, pressing her hand to her stomach, just like I’d taught her. “Drink,” I told her.

  She did.

  Such a good girl.

  “Laphroaig?” she asked.

“Now it’s my turn to be impressed,” I said, taking her arm and leading her to the couch. “A beautiful woman who knows her whiskey.”

“It’s good whiskey,” she agreed, taking another sip, ignoring my comment abut her beauty.

  “Sit.” I told her.

“I’m not Cocky, you know.” She rolled her eyes but did as I asked.

Cocky raised his head at the mention of his name, but then sighed and put his nose back to the slider.

“I think he’s dreaming of taking down a few of the squirrels in your yard.” Her voice grew soft. “I think he saved me today. We’re one for one. I saved him from a kill shelter, and today, if he hadn’t licked me when he did, I don’t know if I would have made it to that turnaround.” She shuddered.

I moved behind her, my hands moving her long brown hair to the side, lightly brushing her neck. She shivered and moaned deeply when I began to knead her shoulders. I was grateful the couch was hiding my eager cock. “Breathe, babe,” I reminded her.

She sighed, letting her head fall back, moving her hand to her stomach automatically. She’d make a good little sub, I thought. She had the cutest freckles on her nose and I had to force my hands to stay on her shoulders rather than wander down the front of her chest to the nipples that were visible, even through her bra. I moved my hands up her neck instead, my thumbs gently rubbing the stress from her muscles. She groaned, and now my balls were painful.

“You missed your calling,” she whispered.

  “Really?” I chuckled, “What’s that?”

“Masseuse,” she informed me. Her eyes opened and stared directly into mine before I moved my eyes back to her breasts. I wondered if her nipples were as painful as my balls, they were infinitely more pronounced now.

Her eyes widened and her breath hitched.

“You need to eat,” I informed her, squeezing both of my palms on her shoulders to ground her in the moment. “Join me in the kitchen and I’ll whip up us up some dinner.”

She chuckled. “I’m not sure I can move. You did me in.”

“Oh,” I assured her, “not yet, babe, but the night is young.”

  Her eyes grew wider still.

I turned toward the kitchen. “Join me at the bar.” I pulled one of the high top bar stools away from the island on my way by, glancing up just in time to see Avery stand and sway.

“Babe, you okay?” I moved back to the couch, took the whiskey glass out of her hand, and pressed her back onto the couch.

She shook her head. “I’m fine.”

“Yes, I can see that,” I told her derisively.

“Really, I am,” she insisted as I put my hand under her chin, moving her face up toward mine, my eyes studying her. “I—“ she cocked her head sideways at me, a crease deepening in her brow. “I don’t think I’ve eaten all day,” she stated as though she’d just suddenly realized it.

“Avery, why would you go for an entire day without eating?” my voice was harsher than I’d intended.

“It wasn’t purposeful. I just didn’t think about it, and then with everything that happened, I guess I thought it was the stress making me feel this way.”

“Feel what way?” I growled, holding her chin in place when she tried to move it away. “Eyes on me,” I demanded.

She narrowed her eyes but complied. “I feel, Doctor Stone, like I need to eat some food. Nothing more, nothing less.” Her green eyes narrowed, but then a hint of mischievousness flickered through them. “So feed me.”

I held her gaze for a moment longer. “No more whiskey, and I want you to rest on the couch until dinner is ready.” She looked away. I gently moved her chin back and up. “Avery, do you understand?” I held her eyes.

  She sighed. “Yes, I understand.”

I pressed her back onto the couch. “I’ll get a blanket. Stay there.”

“Yes, Sir.” She rolled her eyes.

I moved to a basket next to the slider that led to the deck, grabbed a blanket from it and placed it over Avery, tucking her in. “You’re a sassy little thing, aren’t you?” I asked as I leaned forward to kiss her forehead.

She didn’t answer, but her wide eyes darkened with desire, telling me everything I needed to know. Now I ju
st needed to get food into her and then assess if she was up for the plans I had for us this evening—or if they would have to wait until tomorrow morning.

If the throbbing pulse at the valley of her throat was any indication, she wanted me every bit as much as I wanted her.

  Chapter 5

“Oh, my god!” she exclaimed. “This is good, Caden. A masseuse, a chef, and a doctor all rolled into one. I’ve died and gone to Heaven,” her eyes rolled back in her head as she took another bite of the filet mignon I’d prepared for us.

If she kept this up, I wasn’t going to be able to wait until morning. Her cheeks were flushed pink—in part from the red wine we’d consumed while we ate, but also because we’d been flirting with one another throughout the entire meal. She was not only sassy—she was a tease. I liked it. I liked it very much.

“Would you stop?” she asked, raising her glass to her perfect pouty lips.

“Stop what?” I asked, my eyes studying her.

“That. Exactly that. You’re studying me. Analyzing me. It’s annoying.”

  “What’s annoying about it?”

“Oh my God, Caden, what? Are you a shrink, too?” She raised her eyebrows in exasperation.

It was far too easy to push her buttons. Maybe it was a combination of the wine and too little food—the woman was an accomplished attorney at a top IP firm in Sacramento. It shouldn’t be this easy to intimidate her. But it did make me wonder.

“All SEALS are students of human behavior. It’s what makes us so good at what we do. We always get our man—or woman.”

She bit her lower lip and smiled a half smile at me, picking up her glass of wine.

I gently guided her to put it down. “You need to eat more, babe. You’ve barely eaten half of what’s on your plate. I thought you liked my food.”

“I do,” she smiled, “but I’ve had enough.”

I shook my head, considering my options.

“What? Don’t tell me you’re a member of the clean plate club?” She giggled.

I decided to risk it. I leaned into her, claiming her eyes. “I want you to eat all of your food.”

She pushed back against her chair, putting some distance between us. Her eyes darted from the plate to my eyes and back. She picked up her fork, her brow creased as though she didn’t quite understand why she was doing it, but she did it. She took one bite of her food and then another.

I brushed my lips against her forehead. “Good girl,” I whispered, moving to begin kitchen cleanup, and giving her some space.

  Chapter 6

His words moved over me like a soft caress. Good girl. I shivered and my clit pulsed hard. I crossed my legs to ease the pressure—but it had the opposite effect I’d hoped for.

I chewed my food and swallowed automatically. What made me want to obey him? My thoughts wandered to a romance book my best friend Luna had bought for me a few months back. She’d told me I needed to get laid, and I’d told her that wasn’t going to happen, so she declared if I wasn’t going to get laid in person, I could at least get off on with an erotic novel—then she handed the book to me.

It seemed so cliché at the time. The book cover had a bare-chested, six-pack-abs sexy hunk on the front, and some billionaire title…

Funny thing though? I had gotten off when I read it.

It was a dirty, sexy, dark romance novel about a dominant and his sub. It was my first introduction to BDSM, and yes, I realize nearly everyone in the world had read Fifty Shades of Grey by then, but I hadn’t. Honestly, I’d thought it was beneath me.

I’d felt my pussy grow wet with every word I read about their D/S relationship and found myself daydreaming about a man who would make me come like that someday. A man who would make me his sub.

My response had shocked me. I was a feminist, and solid. I’d never thought I could be a submissive to anyone—not in any way, but when I read the book… it was the explicit sex and spankings that had gotten me off the most. I’d dreamt of it. I wanted it. Who was I kidding? I still wanted it.

  Could Caden be a Dom?

I snuck a glance at him as he loaded the dishes into the dishwasher. He walked back to get my plate the moment I put the last bite into my mouth. I’d done it slowly, hyper-aware that he watched as the filet mignon entered my mouth and my lips closed over the fork. I’d almost thought I heard a groan, but that might have been my heightened imagination—or wishful thinking.

I grabbed my wine glass when he moved back to the dishwasher and tipped the glass all the way up, draining the glass. Mm. It was delicious and warmed my body. I felt a slight buzz, but nothing significant. I definitely wasn’t inebriated, but hopefully influenced just enough that I could approach tonight with an open mind.

Caden’s eyes darkened with desire. I swear the guy was a mind reader. The color of his eyes graduated from topaz to almost sapphire. God, if I didn’t know better I’d think he could make me come just by looking at me.

I hadn’t had sex for a very long time. Three years, to be exact. It was long overdue, and I couldn’t imagine a more perfect man to dip into those waters with, than Caden Stone.

I pushed my glass away and stood. Caden’s eyes locked on mine.

He moved toward me, stopping when he stood in front of me. “How are you feeling?”

My stomach did a flip-flop again. “I’m good,” I assured him and then did a little twirl. “Thank you for dinner,” I added. “It was exactly what I needed.” I felt my body sway toward him.

  “Arms up,” he demanded.

My breath quickened, and I did as he asked without hesitation, shivering as his fingers traced a trail from my chin, down my chest, and then to my stomach. He pulled my t-shirt over my head in one quick move and tossed it.

  “Pants next.”

I smiled, tempted to tease him, but if he was into the BDSM scene and punishment, I didn’t know what to expect, so my hands quickly moved to the waist of my yoga pants, I slid them down to my ankles and stepped out of them.

  “You’re beautiful,” he breathed. “Turn.”

I did, slowly, stopping when I was facing him again.

“Bra, then panties. Eyes on me.”

My panties were wet and getting wetter by the second. I took a deep breath and then reached behind me to release my bra. When I did, Caden’s fingers teased my nipples through the lace of my bra. I moaned, my eyes closing.

“Eyes on me, Avery,” he demanded.

My eyes flew to his, and I quickly shed the bra and my panties. I was standing naked in front of him.

He licked his lips as his eyes locked on my breasts. They were a natural 36C, and I was proud of them. My nipples puckered under his gaze.

  “Turn around and bend over.”

  I hesitated. “Caden, I’ve never…”

“Turn around,” he insisted, “and bend over.”

I bit my lower lip but did as he requested—no demanded. He was a doctor after all; I didn’t have anything he hadn’t seen many times before.

As I turned he said, “Hands on your ankles, legs spread.”

I complied, remembering a similar scene from the book I’d read, but then jumped when his fingers teased the outside of my soaking lips, slowly moving inside, circling my clit. My breath hitched when he dipped a finger inside my pussy and continued his way to my back hole.

“But I’ve—“ was met with a slap to my ass. “Ouch!” I exclaimed.

He rubbed both of my ass cheeks gently, and I moaned.

“Fuck, Avery, do you know what you do to me?” he asked.

“No sir, but I’d like to find out.”

He chuckled, and I felt a small surge of satisfaction. I wiggled my ass.

He smacked it again. “Follow me.”

  Chapter 7

“Stand here.” He demanded, pointing to a spot in front of him as I walked into his bedroom. The walls were pine shiplap, and added cozy warmth to the room. His bed was huge, at least a king-size, if not an even larger custom. The headboard had sl
ats, and my eyes narrowed at the intricate design. I suspected it held more than one surprise, and I felt the corners of my mouth turn up in anticipation. There were nightstands on each side, a dresser to Caden’s left, and two overstuffed chairs and a table by a window.

  “Eyes on me, Avery.”

I moved my eyes to his. My pussy growing wet instantly under his scrutiny, cream started to drip down my thigh. I squeezed my legs together.

  “Open them,” he growled.

  I bit my lower lip.

  “Now.”

I opened them, and the pressure between them grew.

“How experienced are you?” His eyes sought mine, and they missed nothing.

“In this lifestyle? Or sex in general?” I asked, clasping my hands in front of me.

  “Both.”

  “I haven’t had sex in a while, Caden—ugh, Sir.”

  He smiled and nodded.

“It’s been three years,” I finished softly.

He growled. “Fuck Avery, how have you gone three years without sex?”

“Long story,” I admitted. “With respect to the lifestyle—I um—well, I read a book. Once.” I bit my lower lip.

He walked around me, and I decided then and there that if he didn’t touch me soon, I was going to risk any punishment he might dole out and simply tackle him.

  “A book?”

I laughed nervously. “Yes, a book.”

  “How long ago?”

“I read it three months ago.”

  “How many times?”

  “Jeez, Caden.”

He smacked my ass as he moved back around in front of me.

  I glared at him.

He took my nipples between his fingers and rolled them.

I moaned and closed my eyes.

“Eyes on me, babe. I won’t tell you again. Answer the question: how many times?”

  “I’ve read it four times.”

“Four times in three months, my eager Avery?”

  “Yes, sir,” I whispered.

  “Virgin ass?”

I raised my eyebrow at him, biting my lip. Did he really expect me to answer these questions while he was rolling my nipples between his fingers? “With respect to spanking, or anal?”
