He slumps. “I’d be lost without you.”

Smiling, I lean in kissing his lips briefly. I came here today with something in mind. I figure now is where I will enact my plan. I grab hold of his hand then start to walk.

He peers at me with a curious look etched in his features. “Where are you taking me, woman?”

I snort out a laugh as I lead him toward the long hall. His eyes widen as we enter. “To your old room.” A mischievous look crosses his face making me roll my eyes. “Not for that, keep it in your pants, big man.”

He chuckles as I lead him to the door, open it, and walk inside. It’s still exactly the same. Nothing in it has changed. In fact, we still stay here sometimes, like I’m sure we will be tonight because of Sass and Sensei’s celebration. It’s good to know we have a place here as he closes the door behind him. I turn looping my fingers around his neck, my fingers fiddling with the hair at his nape, like I always tend to do as he wraps his arms around my waist looking into my eyes. I stare into his ice blue eyes as they send a chill right through me, I love how we have the same effect on each other. He’s so damn gorgeous he takes my breath away.

“So, doc, you had something in mind? Or you just gonna stare at me all afternoon?”

I giggle, detaching from him then moving to pull the small box from my bag that’s draped around my shoulders. He looks at me as I walk over to the bed taking a seat patting the mattress next to me. Exhaling, he walks over sitting down. I glance to his length of chains on the side table. Reaching for them, I pull them over to sit beside us. They clink and clatter, the metal making the noise it always does reminding me of him. He tenses slightly at the sight of his chains—his safety blanket. He grabs them pulling them around his neck, letting them dangle down. The ends thread between his fingers as he plays with them while I take in a deep breath resting my hand on his knee.

“I know what these chains mean to you. I know what they represent in the past. I know they’re also your safety net. They symbolize your freedom. But, Ty, they also hold you back. As much as they are security for you, I feel like every time you put them on, a part of you, however small, goes back there. You’ve come so far in the past month, I don’t want you to start going backward… so, I got you something.”

His tension is clear, his muscles taut as he looks at me watching my every movement. I open the small black box to reveal the specialized ring I had made just for him. His eyes widen as he takes in the sight.

I clear my throat to explain. “It’s a ring. A security blanket, like your chains, but instead of them. You can wear it all the time to remind you of how far you’ve come. When you’re feeling anxious, you can take the ring and hold it, or rotate it on your finger, rather than wearing those damn chains. The ring has the skull to represent the Defiance logo, even with the D inscribed on it. Then around the outer circle it has a row of bike chain, so the chain element is still there for you, but it’s linked to your ride rather than those awful chains you’re associating these…” I pick up the chains around his neck with a sigh, “… with. You need to link your name with chains because that makes you feel good. Not memories of the past which haunt you. So, I think the chains on your ride are a good fit… don’t you?” I pause looking at him trying to gauge what he’s feeling right now. I wasn’t sure how he would react.

Those chains mean so damn much to him.

  I’m just not sure.

He exhales taking the ring from the box studying it. “You really thought this could replace my chains?”

I tense up, nerves washing over me suddenly feeling very anxious. “I don’t, well… I mean—”

“Thank you,” he blurts out, his eyes finally look up at me. They’re glistening, the sight knocks the breath from my body. “This is just what I need.”

My lips turn up so wide I feel like my cheeks might actually burst if I’m not careful as I hand him the ring which he slides onto his finger. It fits perfectly. His body relaxes like a weight has been lifted from his very soul. He pulls the chains from his body placing them on the bed beside him. He looks back at me, his features lightening. “You’re un-fucking-believable.”

  “I try.”

“Wait! Why did we come in the car?” He looks down to my stomach like he has an unanswered question.

“I thought we might like to do something with the chains. I’m not sure what, but I thought once you had the ring, you might like to take the chains somewhere or do something with them, so we’d need the car to transport them. We can’t take them on a bike.”

He moves his hand to my stomach. “So… you’re not pregnant?”

I almost choke on thin air. “What? No. Why?” I simply ask.

He lets out a small laugh. “Shit! It’s just normally when old ladies start taking cars rather than rides it’s ‘cause of a bun in the oven. I just thought…”

“Did you want me to be pregnant?”

He shrugs. “I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea.”

A warmth floods over me as genuine happiness filters through the room. I grab his hands shaking my head. “Do you mean that?”

He grins. “Yeah, I mean neither of us are getting any younger, it’s not like we’re not in this. I’m with you, you’re mine, I’m not going anywhere. I want this, Bex. You. Me. Baby. I want it fucking all.”

My chest swirls so much so I can hardly contain myself. Everything’s falling into place. “Okay, let’s do it.”

He leans in pressing his lips to mine hard. Tingles shoot all the way through me as I kiss him back passionately. He starts to snicker against my lips, so I pull back slightly confused and raise my brow at him while he shakes his head.

“Mom’s going to be so happy she finally gets a grandbaby,” he mocks.

I roll my eyes leaning in to kiss him again, no time like the present to make a baby.

Through all the ups and downs, through all the uncertainty, one thing was for sure, Ty’s my person. He’s the one man I can always count on. He’s the one man I will have by my side no matter what. The one man who will stand by me through thick and thin, and you know what, since the first moment I saw him in his tatty clothes in the park as a sixteen-year-old boy, I knew we would be inseparable. I knew our connection was so astonishingly strong nothing could break this bond.

Ty and I are simply meant to be.

Come hell or high water—nothing can break these chains.

Because this link can never be severed.

  CHAINS

After a festive weekend with Sensei and Sass’s wedding celebrations and Chills and me now on the baby making train, life is good. Monday’s moving along at a snail’s pace compared to the fast-paced weekend. I’m sitting here eating my dinner bored out of my brain. Chills is at work on call—this is the only part I hate about her being a doctor. The damn hours. She’s only just started her shift, so I’m not likely to even speak to her tonight. I have to wait until she comes home crawling into our bed. I’ll let her sleep, then when she wakes up I’ll be there to make her feel good.

The clubroom is quiet for a Monday night. Torque’s at the bar chatting to Ruby about something. Trax and Sparx are sitting at a table eating quietly. They look tired. I think the twins are keeping them up. Lala and Pyro are playing pool with Armor and Luc. I like the fact Luc’s doing well so far. We’ve had a few chats, here and there, but I know we need to have a deeper discussion at some point. Our bond has not yet developed even though I want it to be, it’s hard to get there with him. I know he feels it too. The trust between us is fractured. I know we’ll get it back. I feel shitty about it, but it is what it is, my brain is fucked. I know this. My psych knows it too, but we’re working on it. Day at a time as they say.

Ace, Lift, Vibe, and Scratch are sitting at the bar drinking and laughing. I make my way over taking a seat next to Ace. I tap the bar signaling to Ruby for a drink. She wastes no time in pouring me a beer in my stein.

I turn to Ace who looks particularly chipper tonight. “What’s got you all
fucking smirky?” I ask.

He shakes his head. “Nah, nothing really, just in a good mood. Shit at the club’s going well, everyone’s happy. I have beer, no one has killed one of my bobbleheads in a while. Life’s good.”

I let out a laugh as I pick up my stein taking a sip. “You’re such a damn nerd.”

He laughs as Scratch slaps Ace’s back. “Yeah, but chicks dig intelligence or some shit, don’t they, Sheldon?” Scratch mocks.

I try to hide my smile as Ace tilts his head not looking impressed. “Fuck you, Scratch. I’m far too good looking to be Sheldon. Chicks dig the man bun.”

We all snort out a laugh as Cindi comes running into the clubroom like she’s just finished a marathon. She’s panting for breath, making us all turn to look at her wide-eyed as she stops placing her hands on her knees to catch her breath.

“Cindi, you okay?” Ace asks concern etched in his voice.

She stands up, still puffing, but her beautiful brown locks fall around her face as I see she’s actually dressed nicely rather than the kinda slutty clothes she wears around here. She throws her hands in the air, her left hand holding a wad of papers as she exudes pride. “I got it,” she calls out making us all shrug.

Torque walks to her pulling her in for an awkward hug, obviously understanding what the hell’s going on. “Congratulations, Cindi, knew you could do it,” he tells her as we all stand around like a deer caught in headlights while I watch Ace becoming increasingly more agitated.

“You got what, Cindi?” Ace asks standing from his seat.

She chews on her bottom lip while stepping up to him. “Well, in my acting classes they told us a director was coming in to take auditions for this new gangster movie that’s going to be shot right here in Chicago. They needed a few cast members, so they were auditioning people from the acting class. I was one of ones auditioned.”

Ace folds his arms over his chest staring right at her like she owes him something, which I find odd. “And you didn’t think about telling me this?”

She scoffs throwing her hands in the air, the papers sprawling up in the air and then they slowly start to fall to the floor. We all watch on wondering why the fuck these two are arguing. “I didn’t want to tell you in case it jinxed it and I didn’t get the part. Then I’d have to explain to everyone I didn’t get it. But I did so… yay me!”

Ace huffs out shaking his head. “I can’t believe you kept this from me, Cindi. What the hell does this mean now? Are you leaving the club?”

She folds her arms over her chest scowling at Ace turning up her lip at him. “You know what, Ace? This is huge for me. I thought after everything, you of all people would congratulate me!” She leans forward shoving his chest hard. He stumbles back almost falling into the bar as she races off down the hall.

Ace huffs taking off after her leaving the rest of us shell-shocked.

I let out a small surprised laugh. “Are they a thing or some shit?” I ask looking at Ruby. She’s the head club girl, if anyone should know what the club girls are doing, it’s her.

She shrugs. “I can never tell,” she murmurs wiping the top of the bar with a cloth.

  Holy fuck.

What the hell is going to happen to Cindi now she’s going to play a role in a fucking movie?

We’re going to be one club girl down and have one moody brother around the place.

  Great.

So much for the happy buzz I had.
