The Watchers Trilogy: Awakening

It was close to dinnertime, and Athen and I had been on his bed for who knows how long purely talking. I didn’t want it to end, but I knew Arie would be excited to go out to dinner as a group. It would be nice to have dinner with everyone. Athen had rolled onto his back, and I nestled onto his chest for just a little longer.
“So how long would you have waited?” I asked.
“As long as it took. You are the only person for me. I would have thought you would have guessed it by now,” he murmured, caressing my hair.
“Actually, I just like hearing it,” I told him changing my gaze to meet his, not wanting to divulge my other reason for needing to hear it, “Even with everything, I still love to hear it.”
I climbed on top of him, kissing him realizing that dinner could wait. I was hoping that this was what he had been waiting for, coming back to Kingston. I didn’t think I could wait any longer. He began kissing me back as intently as I had begun. I made a promise that one way or another after tonight, we would be connected in all elements. His hands begin to linger over every inch of my body as he held me.
“Guys?” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. My body slumped on to Athen’s. Arie’s voice came ringing down the hall. Curse her, I thought and Athen started laughing.
“I guess you can hear what I’m thinking still, huh?”
“No, not this time. I was kind of thinking the same thing.”
I crawled off of Athen grudgingly, but I knew we would get this time back again. It would only be a little later. I couldn’t disappoint Arie.
“Hey, Arie,” Athen and I yelled back in unison.
“Can we go get our tree before the lot closes down for the night? I kind of planned on it so we wouldn’t lose any time for the holidays. There’s a lot of things we have to do, in addition, like decorate the house, make cookies, you name it basically.” Arie’s voice was so excited and panicked; it would have been a form of torture for us not to comply. She opened the door as Athen grabbed his jacket that had fallen onto the floor, glaring back at her a bit.
“Oh sorry, oh geez, oh man. I’m so sorry.” Arie looked truly mortified.
I jumped up and shook her lightly. “There’s nothing to be sorry about. Let’s get going.”
