“You better keep that promise because I plan to demand a few things myself.”
Gigi had never been this relaxed and happy. After Morton had been taken into custody he’d been denied bail due to being a flight risk. While in the county lock up awaiting trial, he’d had an altercation with another inmate and had been stabbed to death. Gigi had of course been shocked, but after talking to Caleb Faulkner they’d learned that Morton had been deep into organized crime. Far deeper than anyone had imagined. His death was probably a mob hit to keep him quiet.
Now Gigi didn’t have to look over her shoulder ever again.
That’s why West had asked her to marry him last week. He’d planned roses and champagne but the evening had ended up much different when a storm hit. They’d eaten by candlelight but only because the power had gone out. She’d still said yes and now he was the happiest man in Montana.
“We’re meeting Travis and Aubrey at the pizza place,” Gigi said, taking his hand and leading him out of the office. “Zach can’t make it though. He’s busy training with Jason. I think he’s going to do well there.”
Aubrey had taken a job as Travis’s assistant but West was certain his older brother had far deeper feelings for the pretty young woman than simply as her boss. Aubrey appeared unaware of Travis’s regard but West doubted that would last much longer. When Travis Anderson wanted something he’d do anything to make it happen.
“Your brother had the perfect qualifications with his military and security background and Jason needed more field agents, so Zach is really doing him a favor. Logan will train him up and they’ll be happy to put him to work.”
Gigi linked her arm with West’s as they made their way down the sidewalk. “You made all of this happen. I have you and my family. I never thought my life would be like this, all because of you.”
West felt the heat in his cheeks and ducked his head so she wouldn’t see. Gigi kept saying this was all because of him but that wasn’t really true.
“You did this, babe. You never gave up, fighting the good fight. All I did was call in a few favors. But I’ll happily let you thank me again…later tonight.”
West’s voice dropped into a whisper at the end and he waggled his brows to emphasize his meaning. He’d never get enough of this woman. She was the sun, moon, and stars. Full stop. He was head over heels in love.
Gigi stopped right there in the middle of the sidewalk and stood on her tiptoes, pulling him down for a kiss. Right in front of the good citizens of Tremont who had voted him into office.
There simply wasn’t a more perfect woman. When an Anderson man fell, it was forever.
