  Chapter Eleven

  Myles came back in another borrowed cart and shook his head as he got out. "No one was there when I got there. The door was open and he had gone through our things, but he was long gone."

  Aedan nodded and then suggested they go to a cafe before going to the marina. Erin told him there was a great cafe on the marina where they could watch the boats. They used the car Dr. Thompson had for them and drove down to the docks.

  They ordered coffees and sat out on the back deck of the cafe. The men tried to take her mind off what had happened, but she couldn't stop reliving it in her mind. Myles had called Reilly at the castle and found that all was quiet there. Lachlan and Reilly were on full alert now that there had been another attack on one of the sisters. They cautioned Myles and urged him to bring Erin back to the castle. Erin had refused to go until she found out what was happening with the sea lions.

  They boarded the charter boat and Erin went with one of the deck hands to check out the equipment. Myles had brought hers back to her when he went to check out the house earlier. Once everything was set, they headed out to where the River Life met the Irish Sea. The River Life ran through Dublin and emptied out into the Irish Sea not too far from the marina. They arrived at the point Erin and Dr. Thompson had mapped out and launched the anchor.

  As Erin began putting on her diving gear, Myles said, "I still don't feel right about this."

  "Yeah, one of us should be with you," Aedan agreed.

  "Both of you aren't certified and I need to go down," Erin reached out and put a hand on Myles's face. "I will be fine. I have done this many times."

  "We are going to rectify this and soon. I don't want you going down there by yourself every time," Myles growled at her.

  "You know I am in my own world there. It is what I can control, you know that," Erin said softly to them so the rest of the crew wouldn't hear them.

  "We know, kitten, it doesn't stop us from worrying," Myles said.

  "I appreciate it. Don't worry, I will be fine," Erin told them.

She reached out to one of the otters and communicated that she was in trouble. She asked him to get help. He took off in the water, but the female stayed with her.

  Erin decided to slowly ascend and pray help got here soon or she was dead. She was able to drop her primary cylinder and attach to a small emergency cylinder she kept at all times. As E

  Chapter Twelve

  Myles and Aedan waited topside on the boat and discussed the earlier attack on Erin. "I checked all the doors and windows in the bungalow. The front had been jimmied open. I placed wards over the entire house so he won't be able to get back in again,” Myles told Aedan.

  "It angers me that he was there to begin with. We have been neglectful in our duties, Myles,” Aedan said.

  "I know that. Don't you think I'm angry, too? We must be more vigilant."

  Aedan nodded. "I will feel better when we are all back at the castle. It’s getting more dangerous for the sisters to be away from there."

  "Hopefully the samples she gets today will help and we can head back soon,” Myles said.

  They sat on the deck, scanning the water, waiting for Erin to return. They had cautioned her not to go too far from the boat and she had agreed. After an hour or so, they saw an otter break the surface and call out. They watched him swim on top of the water for a few minutes and then two dolphins broke the surface with Erin in between them.

  Gasping, she yanked her mask off her face as she continued to gulp large amounts of air into her lungs. One of the dolphins slowly swam with her on its back to the boat and the men lifted her on to the deck. She lay there, gasping and struggling to breathe for a few minutes while the crew grabbed an oxygen tank. They handed her an oxygen mask, which Myles placed over her mouth and nose. She breathed deeply and was finally able to talk.

  "My tank ran out even though it said I had half left. That was my personal tank from the bungalow,” Erin told Myles and Aedan.

  The two men looked at each other and they knew then that that was one of the reasons the man had broken into the bungalow. They told her to sit back and relax as she continued to catch her breath, breathing in the pure oxygen. She made sure to have Myles and Aedan secure her samples so they wouldn't be contaminated, then they all headed back to the marina.

  "Sir, I tried to take her at the bungalow, but she got the best of me,” one of his henchmen said.

  "So what you are telling me, is that not only did you not get her, but you're a pussy as well?” he said into the phone. Silence met him because there was nothing his man could say because he was an idiot. "Did you do what I asked in regards to her diving equipment?"

  His man cleared his throat. "Yes, sir. I did. The regulator worked like a charm. She had to call the animals to her just like you said."

  "Um, no sir. They are still doing tests on the animals. Do you want me to try to get at her again?"

  "No. Let her get complacent now. I have bigger plans for her and her sisters soon. Just keep me informed on her movements."

  He hung up the phone and looked around at the two men in his office. "Everything is going according to my plans. Tell me you got what I needed."

  One of the men stepped up to his desk and laid the athame on it. "It was not a problem, sir."

  He carefully picked it up and felt its power. He knew he had to tread carefully now, but he felt a little thrill at holding the final piece in his hands. Now he would get Adrianna and begin his quest of power.

  When they arrived back at the marina, Erin insisted the men take her to the lab.   Erin and Dr. Thompson worked the rest of the day and part of the evening on the samples that Erin had collected. When they were done, Erin informed the guys that she needed to get some samples from the other side of River Life to be certain. When Myles suggested they go in the morning, Erin insisted they go that evening. She really wanted to get results so they could go back as soon as possible.   As they drove out to where Erin could take her samples, she thought about how she had left her protection spell locket on the dresser so it wouldn't get lost or damaged in the water.   Erin got out of the car and Aedan helped her get her sample containers out of the back. Myles grabbed her hand while Aedan carried her packs and they walked down to the end of the dock. Aedan sat everything down and she turned to both men with a smile.

  "The whole area is deserted, go ahead,” Myles said as both men sat down on the dock and let their feet dangle off the side.

  She looked out over the water and raised her hand. A large wave crested out of nowhere and came at the men.   The female dolphin told Erin that a long time ago, she had been in these waters as a young. She remembered a terrible noise where something large crashed into the water and there had been fire. The dolphin showed her mental images she had and Erin saw that it had been a plane falling out of the sky. The female dolphin told her there was a man and woman who floated down to the water like the jellyfish. The female dolphin's parents had tried to help the people but had been unable to. The dolphin told her that a large net had scooped out the two people in the water before the adult dolphins could help them.

  The female dolphin told her it was one of the boats, which came in the night and poured foul smelling liquid into the water. Erin thanked the dolphin and assured her she was doing everything she could to stop that from happening. The dolphins gave her their thanks and swam off, leaping through the water.

  Chapter Thirteen

  Erin was puzzled by all the dolphins had told her and mentally pushed it a
ll aside. She needed to collect her samples and stop these people who were polluting the water. The men helped her gather her samples but not without stealing kisses and small caresses as they went. She laughed at their antics to cop a feel while she bent over to get the water samples. She smacked at their hands playfully but in truth, she was soaking wet thinking of getting them alone again.

  Once the samples were finally gathered, due to how late it was in the evening, they left them at the lab to assess in the morning. They drove up to the front of the bungalow and when the men went to go inside, Erin hesitated.

  "It's okay to go in,” Aedan said from the doorway as he held out his hand.

  Myles stepped to her side. "I set up wards all around. No one was able to enter here while we were gone."

  Erin knew it was silly, but she was nervous now entering the little house. Myles took her hand and so did Aedan. They walked her inside and then showed her every nook and cranny in the house to show her it was safe. While they walked through each room, they also showed her that all the windows were locked as well. Erin felt better after they showed her the house was clear and protected. She also put her protection spell necklace back on immediately.

  She went into the kitchen and began to make dinner. Just like the sample taking, they began to tease her to bring up her spirits, not to mention they wanted her.
