A Scorching Dilemma

  “Must you?” Faith asked softly.

“How can you ask that?” Andrew said. “Granger is dead and so is my mother. Now only I stand in Daniel’s way.”

“In my way to what?” Daniel asked, feeling utterly lost.

Andrew crossed his arms. “My mother said that you lost your parents and your birthright so that I could be born. My presence would be a constant reminder of that. If I stayed, I would stand in the way of your complete happiness.”

He made to leave, but Daniel held him back. “You are mistaken, little brother. The only thing standing in the way of my happiness is your imminent departure. How am I to have a proper marriage if my brother will not stay to attend my wedding?”

  Andrew’s gaze widened.

Daniel smiled. “You are the only blood relative I have left, Andrew. I refuse to lose you, too. And as the new head of the Killian clan, I forbid you to leave.”

His brother looked to Faith in confusion and she smiled and kissed his cheek. Then she hugged him. Tentatively, he hugged her back and Daniel joined in.

  Mrs. Weatheringham ordered champagne.

Daniel glanced around. These people were his dearest friends. Andrew was his brother. And Faith would soon be his wife. Her green sparkling gaze captured his, just as she had captured his heart.

They all raised their glasses and toasted the future. It was going to be a grand one.
