One Magic Night

“A solution that you may not care for. Not in the long run, anyhow.” He traced a finger across her chin. “And a lifetime is a very long time.”

Anticipation left her breathless. The reality she’d dreamt of for as long as she could remember—finding a love of her own, a lasting love for all time—was standing in front of her. Shay had walked into her life tonight and she never wanted to lose him. She smiled at his uncertainty. “You could…ask and find out.”

He hesitated, and Katrina knew it was not because he lacked the desire, but because his need for her was so great. He was weighing the future against the present, and trying to find the best way to ask for it.

“Will you marry me, Katrina? And not because your father made his threats. Not because of my earlier stupidity in putting you into a position you feel there is no way back from—but because of the love we found together on this magic night.”

Katrina smiled at the questioning in his eyes and stepped forward into his strong embrace. “Yes, Shay. Oh, yes.” She raised her lips to Shay’s as the first flare of the fireworks display streaked into the summer sky and exploded in the distance.

Love had come for her this summer night. And it was every bit as magical as she’d dreamed it would be.
