“I could get used to this,” Mathias whispered.

  “This?”

“Yes. Coming home and holding you on the sofa. This.”

Abhay laughed. “I travel a lot for work. I think it’s only fair that I warn you.”

“I didn’t know that,” Mathias said.

The change in his voice was evident. Though Abhay didn’t know what it meant, he knew something was wrong. Shifting, he turned so he now faced Mathias. Their eyes locked and the spark he’d felt that first time returned. He caressed the side of Mathias’ face and smiled. “I always come back,” he said. “And if you’re mine I will always be thinking about you—even if you weren’t.”

“Okay,” Mathias said. “Then let’s set those labels right now. I know they’re dumb and most men don’t want them but I—”

  “Want them.”

“Good.” Mathias licked his lips. “I want to be your boyfriend. I want to be able to come home to you. Too soon?”

Abhay smiled and kissed him. “No. Not too soon. I’ve never been anyone’s boyfriend before. I think I’m going to like it.”

“I’m glad your sister didn’t think me unworthy of you.”

“Priya isn’t hard to please,” Abhay said. “She likes seeing me smile.”

  “Yes. She’s your sister.”

“I’m so glad you’re staying the night,” Abhay whispered, inching closer. “It was so peaceful sleeping in your arms last night, I didn’t want to leave but I couldn’t cancel on Dana. She’s been there for me so much. I always like to make sure I return the favor.”

“I’ll have to meet her sometime,” Mathias said. “How about we watch a movie and cuddle?”

Abhay laughed. “Cuddle. You want to cuddle?”

  “After I make you come.”

“I thought so.” Abhay laughed. “I’m hip to your games, Mathias Jago.”

  “Whatever you say, grandpa!”

  “Grandpa?” Abhay groaned.

“No one says ‘hip to your game’ anymore.” Mathias climbed over Abhay and stood. “I’m just waiting to hear you call me a ‘jive turkey’.”

Abhay laughed. “Come on.” He extended a hand to Mathias, who accepted it. They walked silently down the hall to the large bedroom, and when the lights came on, Mathias stared out at the city. For a moment, Abhay remained silent, watching the way Mathias looked up at the mountains.

Eventually, he removed his shirt and when he reached for his belt buckle, the jangle pulled Mathias to turn around. “Don’t mind me,” Abhay said. He walked into his closet and returned with a pair of track pants.

  “What’re those for?” Mathias asked.

  “Bed? You seem tired.”

Mathias smiled. “No, no, no, Mr. Chetan. There’s one rule tonight…”

“Let me guess.” Abhay dropped the pants onto the chair closest to him and met Mathias’ gaze. “No clothes?”

Mathias undid the buttons on his shirt and hurled it to the same chair. “Ding! Ding! Ding!”

They stripped together, until nothing but air caressed their flesh. Mathias sat Abhay on the edge of the trunk at the foot of the bed then slid to his knees before him. Abhay’s brown eyes narrowed but he said nothing. Mathias took that as permission to kiss at his knees then up to the inside of his thighs. He moaned and rested a large palm on the back of Mathias’ head but didn’t add pressure.

Mathias took his time, enjoying the heat of Abhay’s body and the way Abhay sighed and trembled. Abhay’s legs were covered in soft, dark hairs that felt amazing against Mathias’ lips. He dwelled on that, relishing the situation.

“You’re so beautiful,” Mathias whispered before he could stop himself. “Abhay.”

Abhay framed Mathias’ neck and slipped down to his knees. For a moment, they stared into each other’s eyes. Weak from the feelings throbbing through him, Mathias fell against Abhay’s hair-covered chest and sighed when Abhay’s arms snaked around him.

“Did you want to do this another time?” Abhay asked.

“No.” Mathias shifted and moaned when his nipples traversed the hairs on Abhay’s chest. “I want you so bad. I feel overwhelmed with it.”

After that confession, Mathias thought for sure Abhay would freak out. Instead, Abhay held him tighter while pushing to his feet. He was further surprised when Abhay picked him up and carried him to the bed. For the first time ever, Mathias felt like one of the sexiest beings on the face of the earth. Abhay stroked him, touched him, kissed every part of him. He trembled in Abhay’s arms, sighed each time Abhay’s tender fingertips traversed his body.

Abhay slipped down Mathias’ frame, dragging his tongue along the way. Then his hot, wet mouth engulfed the head of Mathias’ cock and he lost his mind. For a man who hadn’t had sex with anyone in years, Abhay sure knew how to make a man’s eyes cross.

“Oh, baby,” Mathias sighed, burying his fingers in Abhay’s hair. “Take it deeper—how far can it go?”

He watched in stunned delirium as his cock disappeared, inch by glorious inch, down Abhay’s throat. How can being with a man feel so good? Mathias tried focusing, tried keeping control, but all he could manage was to throw his head back and whimper. Abhay was good—so damn good that repeatedly, Mathias had to hold his breath to stave off the orgasm he knew would surge through him.

“I need you to fuck me.” Mathias panted, gripping Abhay’s shoulders. “Please. Now.”

Abhay crawled upward but walked away to the bedside table. Mathias touched himself as he waited impatiently. He stood, braced his palms on the trunk and hiked his ass in the air. When he glanced over his shoulder, Abhay was standing behind him, his fit body looking so perfect, Mathias’ knees shook.

Abhay touched him then, tracing Mathias’ cheeks with a tender hand. He spread Mathias and squirted a cold dollop of lube on his hole. To add to his pleasure, Abhay used a large finger to work the lubricant in. Mathias moaned and licked his lips, all the while riding back onto the digit.

  “Please,” Mathias begged.

“Okay, darling,” Abhay whispered, his voice brimming with restrained control.

Abhay pressed a hand against the small of Mathias’ back and pushed downward. Mathias was rewarded with a large, stiff cock sliding deep into his hole. He chewed on his bottom lip and held his breath as his eyes crossed. Mathias wanted to scream, to shout his happiness, but no sound would leave him. Instead, he rode back onto Abhay, loving the way his man purred for him.

It was better this time and Mathias didn’t know why that was. Abhay slammed home and Mathias suddenly didn’t care. “Yes!” Mathias cried. “Fuck me, Abhay!”

Abhay gripped his shoulders and did as he was told. He crashed forward, their bodies slapping together louder and louder. The rising tide of Mathias’ orgasm edged repeatedly, dancing to the ebb and flow of Abhay’s whim.

  “Mathias…”

Abhay flipped him around and pushed him against the hardness of the trunk. Mathias tried crawling backward across it to the bed, but the carnal madness in Abhay’s eyes made him tremble. Still, he pushed, sliding across the sheets until his back hit the headboard. He glanced down to see his juices mixed with lube glistening against the condom over Abhay’s dark dick.

Instead of walking around the side, Abhay climbed across the trunk to the bed. He grabbed a pillow with one hand while reaching for Mathias’ ankle with the other and pulled. Mathias moaned as his ass eased across the Egyptian cotton of Abhay’s sheets. Abhay tossed the pillow aside, picked up Mathias’ ankle and spread him.

“Don’t. Move.” Abhay growled. “I want to fuck you until you come for me.”

  “Damn.”

“Don’t like the side of me, Mathias?”

“Damn!” Mathias sighed. “Give it to me.”

Mathias licked his lips but shouted when Abhay’s hard cock slammed home once more. This time he had the pleasure of seeing Abhay’s eyes as he dug deep. Abhay’s pupils dilated. Mathias’ orgasm swam along the edges.

  Abhay must
have seen it because he wrapped his fingers around Mathias’ dick and stroked tightly. It didn’t take long.

  “Come for me, Matt.”

“Abhay.” Mathias was breathless, arching upward, eyes wide as he did as he was told. He bucked hard but Abhay held on, riding Mathias like a trained jockey.

To Mathias’ pleasure, the moment he thought the fire would end, Abhay roared for him. His lover’s body tensed for what was a silent eternity. Abhay trembled as the condom expanded inside Mathias’ body. It was impossible not to come again. Abhay’s fingers were still trapped around Mathias’ dick, stroking it to life and making him explode once more. This time, Mathias kept his eyes on Abhay’s beautiful face, even as his pleasure stormed through him.

  Chapter Eleven

  “You two are dating now?”

Mathias rolled over and reached for Abhay but the bed was empty.

“Yes,” Abhay’s voice said with finality. “And would you not yell?”

“Look, I’m know it’s none of my business but—you do realize he’s a stripper.”

“You’re right. It is none of your business.” Abhay didn’t sound impressed and Mathias was quickly losing his patience.

“Abi, listen. I’m not trying to be in your business but are you sure you know what you’re doing?” the other voice asked. “Have you spoken to Priya?”

“Ko, seriously. I am not a child and please don’t say shit like this around him. Things are new between us and I don’t want to ruin what we’re trying to build here.”

Mathias climbed out of the bed and rummaged around for his clothes. His shirt was still on the chair, only now it was folded. He picked up his boxers from the side of the bed and his pants from the dresser. He couldn’t stay. His thoughts had been right. As much as he wanted to build a life with Abhay, to see what they could be to each other, Abhay’s friends would never approve. Sure, he shouldn’t care—hell, he should be riding out of that damn condo with both his middle fingers in the air—but Abhay didn’t deserve that. He’d always known his job wouldn’t win him any favors.

With a sigh, he shoved his feet into his pants and zipped up. He pulled on his shirt, latched the buttons then dragged a hand over his head. He hadn’t come in with anything but his wallet and cell and once he was sure those were still in his pockets, Mathias took a breath and headed out the door.

“Matt,” Abhay called. “I didn’t know you were awake.”

“Obviously,” Mathias said. He didn’t even acknowledge Ko. “Look, um, thanks for last night, but I should go.”

  “Why?”

“Seriously?” Mathias asked. “Look, I know my work isn’t ideal. I get it. But I’m not out ripping anyone off or asking for handouts. I’ve lived my life without parents, without a family and without a wealthy boyfriend. I own my car and my house and I did that all on my own. I’ve never once begged anyone for anything. I’ve never asked a man to take care of me. I really like you, Abhay, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to have your friends or anyone talk down at me because of my job.”

  “Matt…”

  “I have to go.”

He headed out the door, stopping only to slide his feet into his boots. Abhay caught his arm and pulled away. “I’m sorry, Abhay.”

“Don’t leave like this,” Abhay said.

Mathias said nothing. He stepped into the elevator once the doors slid open then eased all the way into the back. He watched Abhay until the doors closed then buried his face in his hands. How did I let everything move so fast?

When he hit the first floor, he rushed to his car and peeled from the gated community as if he was being chased. His phone rang and when he looked down, Abhay’s name flashed at him. Mathias declined the call and dropped the phone on the passenger seat. But he didn’t go home. He pulled over to fix his clothes then made his way to the station and let himself into Collin’s office.

“What happened?” Collin asked, hurrying around his desk to close the door while Mathias fell into one of his chairs. “Matt?”

“Abhay is a great guy. And his sister is amazing.”

  “But?”

  “But his friends hate me.”

“Matt, you’re not dating his friends,” Collin said. He sat on the edge of his desk and folded his arms. “If Abhay is good with you then who cares what anyone else thinks?”

“You don’t understand. He needs his friends. They’ve been good to him.”

  “And he doesn’t need you?”

“No.” Mathias exhaled. His cell began ringing. This time when he saw Abhay’s name he turned off the phone. “All I’m going to bring to his life is unnecessary drama.”

Collin sighed. “Tell me this. Does Abhay have anything to say about your work?”

“He said if that’s what I want to do he will accept it,” Mathias explained. “He said he’d go crazy knowing other men were looking at me and I get it. Last night I was at the Rose and I just didn’t have the same adrenaline it used to give me. Deep down, I knew I was giving away what belonged to him. And I know you’re going to say I’m going too fast but I can’t help the way I feel.”

“Well, maybe you need to fight a little harder for him.”

“Are you saying I should quit my job?”

“No.” Collin shook his head. “What I’m saying is maybe you should stand by his side despite what a few closed-minded dopes think. Give Abhay a chance to defend you. You can’t live your whole life alone, Mathias. You can’t do it all yourself. Sooner or later masturbation will stop working.”

Mathias crinkled his forehead at his friend but managed a smile. “I wish I was someone else, you know? Someone who has an education and a respectable job—someone he didn’t have to hide.”

“Hide? You said his sister was nice—that means you’ve met her. Did she have anything bad to say?”

  Mathias shook his head.

“If you’ve met his sister then he’s not hiding you. You don’t have to make the decision today. But think about it before you do something you’ll regret. I know that was him calling earlier. You can’t hide from him forever.”

Mathias knew Collin was right but he didn’t admit it. Instead he grunted and they went out for breakfast. When he made it home, it was in time to bathe and crawl into bed. But he hadn’t changed the sheets since Abhay had been there and now everything smelled like him.

Abhay dropped the phone on the counter and dragged frustrated fingers through his hair. He’d been calling Mathias for two hours and still nothing. The rage he felt in that moment pulsed behind his eyes. He swore he was going blind.

“He’s not picking up?” Ko asked.

“No. It’s going directly to voicemail.”

  “I’m sorr—”

“Don’t!” Abhay snarled. “I told you he was here, Ko. But you didn’t care because you had to say what you had to say and to hell with everyone else!”

“I didn’t mean to hurt his feelings!”

“Yes you did. I know you, remember? But I didn’t think you’d do anything like this. When did you become an elitist?”

“I am not an elitist! I was just looking out for you.” Ko sighed. “I know you don’t want to hear this but I really didn’t mean to hurt him or you. I only wanted to make sure you were going into this with both eyes open.”

“I’m done taking advice from you today,” Abhay said, walking toward the bedroom.

  “Abhay…”

  “Go,” Abhay said. “Please.”

  “Abhay, seriously…”

“I liked him, Ko.” Abhay turned to look at his friend. “For the first time I had a man in my bed who reads, who cooks, who wanted me—not because I had a few dollars and not because he thought I was an easy mark but because he genuinely liked spending time with me. The fire I feel for this man surpassed everything. He put my desires ahead of his and didn’t run away when he found out I was basically a forty-year-old virgin. And now, he’s gone. And I have to figure out a way to get that back. If you’re not going to help me th
en you’re in my way so get out.”

“I’m not leaving you like this.”

Abhay frowned and stormed into his bedroom. He was in the process of hauling on some clothes when Ko entered.

“Give him some time to breathe.” Ko leaned against the doorframe.

“What’d I tell you about giving me advice today?”

“Abhay, I’m sorry. Okay? I fucked up. I get it.”

But Abhay had no words. He walked around Ko and stopped at the door to grab his coat and boots. It was then he realized Mathias had left his jacket. He could bring it to him, but maybe Ko had been right. Mathias needed some time to breathe. Abhay left it where it hung and exited his condo.

To keep from going to Mathias’ house, he wandered the street until he wound up at Dana’s dance studio. He sat in the back on one of the benches, watching her stretch and wondering how anyone could be against her. She was peace—there was no other way to describe watching her move across the dance floor as if it pumped in her blood. It took another hour before she got a break and hurried over to sit beside him while drinking from a bottle of water.

“Well, this is a surprise,” Dana said. “I always love seeing you, but you hate just sitting here.”

“Mathias is gone,” Abhay reported. “I think we’ve broken up but I’m not sure.”

“Wait—this has to be the shortest dating session ever. What do you mean he’s gone?”

“He—uh—stayed over at my place last night.” Abhay picked at the corners of his fingers. “We ate, watched a movie, made love—it was perfect. We decided we wanted to date, be boyfriends…”

  “Awww!”

“Then Ko came over and ruined everything.”

“How do you mean?” Dana asked.

“He was trying to warn me off Mathias because he’s a stripper. Mathias heard and stormed out—after giving us a piece of his mind, that is.”

  “Damn.”

“Yeah.” Abhay rubbed his eyes. “Now he’s not picking up his phone and I’m trying to give him breathing room but I need to know there is something to go back to.”
