  Acknowledgments

I would like to thank Dr. Jakita Thomas at Auburn University, who offered excellent tips and words of wisdom to young lady scientists. A special thank-you to Dr. Quincy Brown, Ph.D., Program Director for STEM Education Research at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), for her thoughtful input and insight into what it means to be a girl of math and science. Any mistakes or missteps are completely mine and not the fault of Dr. Thomas or Dr. Brown. And my good friend Audra Burch, reporter for the New York Times. You ladies gave me excellent role models upon which to build my story.
