Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Shoots and Scores

Over the years, they remained rivals on the ice but, after both retired from the NHL, became steadfast allies in a different off-ice battle. Along with fellow hockey player Scott Mellanby, Kolzig and Dafoe (all who happen to be parents of autistic children) founded Athletes Against Autism, a group that raises awareness and funds for autism research, treatment, and education programs. And despite their on-ice battles, they’ve remained good friends.

SO LONG, THRASHERS
The city of Atlanta, Georgia, has had the unhappy experience of losing an NHL team twice. They had the Atlanta Flames from 1972 until 1980, and the Atlanta Thrashers from 1999 until 2011. Both teams suffered attendance and financial problems, and both eventually moved to other cities. (Calgary, Alberta, in 1980, and Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 2011, respectively.) Atlanta nonetheless had totally devoted NHL hockey fans, and it’s just no fun to lose your team. Our condolences, Atlanta hockey fans.
