Her tears slid along her face as she stared at his painting. It was beautiful and touched her soul. They were tears of joy. So much had happened to them these past few months that kept them apart; due to their own faults. But they worked through the doubts and mistrust to become one as a couple.

Standing on the easel was a picture of her rocking a baby as the sun set behind her. He painted her as he saw her. As a mother cherishing her child with all the love in her soul. Shears set out to destroy her. To destroy them. But because of Shears, their love only grew. What started out as a crisis developed into a love stronger than anybody could tear apart.

  “I think you are thrilled.”

“I am, my dear,” he gently kissed her on the lips.

He wanted to pamper and cherish her these next few months. She deserved a little of that. Maxwell wrapped her in his arms and carried her over to the tree. He lowered himself to the ground and sat with her on his lap. There they relaxed and gazed at the sun setting against her Scottish mountains. As they watched the mountains turn different shades, they talked of their child she carried. Their child who would be loved and cherished by both.

She fell asleep as they talked, and Maxwell continued to hold her. Throughout the danger and deception, he discovered her love which made him whole. He had set out in his life with no intention to ever being loved. She rescued him from himself and taught him how to love another. Leaning his head back he rested with his Scottish bride; he would take her inside soon. But for now, he wanted to enjoy their time alone; even if she was quietly snoring. His life couldn't get any better than holding his beloved in his arms.

  The End

  Author Laura A. Barnes

I have always dreamed of being an aspiring author. I am making my dreams come true, one word at a time. When I am not writing, I am spending time with my family. I love reading books on lazy afternoons, and late into the night. Anytime really. Married 28 years to the love of my life and we have three wonderful children and two sweet grandbabies. Besides writing, I have always wanted to travel. In the last few years we have gotten our passport stamped in England and Scotland. We are hoping to add Italy to the list soon. My debut novel is Rescued By the Captain. You can visit me at www.lauraabarnes.com
