It was a small craft. He found bathroom facilities, an abundance of non-perishable food and water, and a cockpit. That is what he had been looking for. He entered the area and observed the lights and gauges. He couldn’t comprehend anything he was seeing. Nothing, that is, but one thing.
Digital red lights, in four sections of two each. The red flashing figures in each one changed with each flash. It was counting down. Counting down to their arrival at the planet they were heading to. Even though he couldn’t decipher the numbers, he was fully aware that was exactly what it was doing.
How long would they fly?
He stood and stared at the vast expanse of space spread out before them. He knew Kamryn was approaching before she even wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly to her.
“How long until we get there?” she asked.
He looked again at the clock. Four sections of two.
“I would be willing to bet that it will be awhile, Kam.” He turned to her. “But we’re together, and that’s all that matters to me. We’re alive, and we’re together.”
He kissed her lips and held her tightly to him. Together they gazed at the gorgeousness of the universe before them.
They would simply begin life again.
