And to my amazing editor, Stephanie Bowen at Sourcebooks. Thank you for your unwavering support and vision for this book. It has been a joy and an honor to work with you and others at Sourcebooks: Jenna Skwarek for answering my many questions and keeping me on schedule; Liz Kelsch, Heather Moore, and Jennifer Sterkowitz in publicity and online marketing; Adrienne Krogh, Dawn Adams, and Kelly Lawler for creating such a fabulous cover; Heather Hall and the out-of-this-world copyediting team; and Todd Stocke and Dominique Raccah. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

I couldn’t have written this book without the support of my family. My dear husband, Tom, thank you for your patience and for accepting me as I am. Jake, thank you for allowing me (not always by choice) to share our story. To Rachel and Martin, my little dim sum companions. To the Kasons for accepting a Jewish, divorced, single mother into your family and treating Jake and me as your own. Thank you, Budgie and Grandma. And to my mother: our family would look much different if it weren’t for you.

She studied Mandarin and completed a master’s degree in political science at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Susan is now back in the Chicago area, where she lives with her husband, three kids, and a surly cat. Her work has appeared in affiliate papers of the Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Parent magazine, and the Journal of the American Dietetic Association. She has been interviewed in TimeOut Chicago and on ABC News Chicago and WTTW Chicago, the local public television channel. You can find her online at www.susanbkason.com.
