  “Oh, I never said that.” He chuckled, supremely self-assured. “I will have my payback.”

  Logan could sense her fidgeting and then felt her remove herself from his shoulder. He opened his good eye and saw her wringing her hands, worrying her lower lip in that way he adored. Her brow was furrowed and her eyes narrowed as if she was deep in thought. She was ignorant of his watching her, busy concentrating on trying to figure out what he might have in store for her. He grinned and stretched again. He clasped his hands behind his head and left them there, savoring the moment. He exhaled in ultimate victory before saying under his breath:

  STEPHANIE EVANOVICH is a full-fledged Jersey girl from Asbury Park who began writing fiction while waiting for her cues during countless community theater projects. She attended New York Conservatory for the Dramatic Arts, performed with several improvisational troupes, and acted in a few small-budget movies, all in preparation for the greatest job she ever had: raising her two sons.
