Do you love me? (Trinity Series Book 1) Page 7

by Regina Bartley

  “What?” She grumbled.

“There’s something furry, and I don’t know where it went.” I bounced uncontrollably on my bed. “I didn’t see it, but it’s a rodent or something.”

She peered at me through one squinted eye, which I noticed was smeared with black mascara. She growled and threw her head back against her pillow. “Shadow,” she called out and something jumped onto her bed.

It was a black cat. She had a cat in our dorm room. Jesus. I almost crapped my pants over a cat.

  “You have a cat?”

“Guilty,” she replied as the cat settled next to her head.

My hand was still over my chest as I was trying to slow down the rapid beating. I seriously thought we had a gigantic rat or possum. But no, it was just a cat.

“How can you have a cat in a dorm room?” I asked suspiciously. We weren’t allowed pets that I knew of, unless it was for a handicap of some sort.

“Shadow here is an illegal immigrant.”

  I laughed.

“I’m not supposed to have her, but she’s been with me for three years. I couldn’t give her up.”

I climbed off the bed and tiptoed slowly across the floor to where she and Shadow laid. I was going to pet it, but the damn thing hissed at me.

  Great.

“Is he going to bite me?” I asked.

  “No.”

“Will he shit in my bed?”

  “No.”

  “Fine,” I rolled my eyes.

“So you don’t mind?” Letty asked me. Not that it mattered. I don’t think she’d get rid of it if I did.

“No. The little immigrant can stay.”

The two of them snuggled under her blanket, while I went to get a shower. All I could do was shake my head at the thought.

A cat. I was sharing my space with a girl I knew nothing about and her cat. Wonderful.

After a long hot shower, I settled on a pair of leggings and a long sweatshirt. There was no need to dress up because I had no plans of leaving the room. With Netflix, I had no reason to.

Letty was already fast asleep when I came back out, so I tried to remain quiet as I finished my unpacking. There wasn’t a lot left to do, but I wouldn’t have felt completely settled until it was done.

It took me about forty-five minutes to finish, and the clock felt like it had barely moved. There was still a gut wrenching feeling inside. I still felt lost, and alone. I still wanted to cry at the drop of a hat. It was going to take more than forty-five minutes to cure what ailed me.

Letty stirred in her bed before waking up, and I was glad. A few more minutes alone, and I wouldn’t be able to hold back the tears. Call me a cry baby or whatever, but my heart was hurting. Or maybe it was my pride; I couldn’t differentiate between the two.

There was a light knock on our door, and I flinched.

“Lee,” Josh called lightly through the door.

  Shit. No.

“Letty,” I whispered. “Please tell him I’m not here.”

I could see the aggravation on her face, but I couldn’t see him. I couldn’t, not today.

  “Please.”

Another knock sounded on the door.

“I’m letting you keep the immigrant.”

She sighed before tossing the covers off of her. I raced to the bathroom and shut the door most of the way, leaving a small crack so that I could hear what was being said.

Her tone was clipped when answered the door. She must’ve thrown it open because I heard the thud when it connected with the wall.

She told him twice that I wasn’t there, and then let him in so that he could see for herself. Of course he wouldn’t take her word for it. You’d think I was a missing person or something. Forgive me for not taking his calls after he clearly broke my heart.

“Now get out,” she yelled and for the first time, I knew that I was really going to like that girl. So what if I had to force her to help me. She did it, and with vengeance. Letty would have my back. Thank goodness. I was in serious need of a girl friend.

“Coast is clear,” she called out after he left.

“Thank you. I owe you one.”

She picked Shadow up off the bed and placed him in her lap. “You’ve been here one day and you already have guy troubles?” She pushed a piece of her black hair away from her face.

I sighed, and without even asking I took a seat on the edge of her bed. “Yeah, I guess. That was my best friend Josh.”

“Best friend huh? Why are you avoiding him?” Shadow purred under her touch. That little beast would’ve already bitten my finger off.

“It’s complicated, but I just told him last night that I loved him. And not the best friend kind of love.”

She looked up at me and pinched her lips tightly together.

I continued. “Let’s just say that he doesn’t share the same feelings. I mean he loves me, but it’s not the same kind of love. You know?” I swallowed the golf ball size lump in my throat. “We’ve been best friends for more than nine years. He said that it would ruin our friendship.”

“And you don’t think it would?” She questioned.

“Honestly, I wasn’t sure. But it was a risk that I was willing to take. I’ve loved him since I was ten years old.”

She shifted in her seat. “Care for some advice from someone you barely know?”

“Sure,” I spoke hesitantly. My Mom always said, careful what you wish for.

“I don’t doubt how you feel about him. Not one single bit. Only you know what your true feelings are. But if he is the only boy that you’ve ever loved, then I say keep looking. I don’t mean that you should give up on how you feel or what you feel. I just mean that you should allow yourself the chance to see what else is out there. You’re young. You’re in college. These are supposed to be the best years of your life. A lady that I once knew told me that if it were meant to be, then it would be. Don’t force feelings from someone, because it might backfire.”

Whoa. My eyes filled with unshed tears.

“Give yourself a chance to live. Go date. Maybe you’ll find someone new or maybe you’ll make him jealous enough that he’ll come running to you.”

“Damn girl,” I let out a pent up breath. “How old are you?”

“Nineteen,” she smiled. I think it might’ve been the first smile I’d ever seen on her face. “I had to grow up a little faster than most.”

I offered her a reassuring smile but didn’t question her.

“You give great advice. My heart will probably be hurting for a while, but maybe moving on is best. I’ll think about it. But for now, I’d like to drown my sorrows in a large pizza and a tub of Ben & Jerry’s. What do you say? My treat.”

  “I’m starving.” She replied. “Deal.”

  ***

I set up my Netflix on my laptop and the two of us ate our pizza on my bed while watching Gilmore Girls. We started from season one because she’d never seen it before. That was fine by me. I loved that show. The two of us easily scarfed down a large pepperoni and ham pizza, and I offered the delivery driver extra cash to stop and get us ice cream. It’s amazing what money will buy.

“It feels so good to have a night off,” Letty said through a yawn.

  “You work?” I asked.

“Yeah,” she groaned. “I’ve got two jobs.”

What? “Two jobs? How the hell do you work two jobs and go to school?”

“It’s not easy, but I make it work. You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”

“Where do you work at?” I tried not to pry too much. This was the first bit of information she’d offered me, and I didn’t want to make her uncomfortable. She didn’t seem like the type who liked to discuss her personal life. It was just a vibe she put off.

“I’m a waitress at Susie’s Diner on Lincoln Street most of the time, but I also work at the old bus station on Main. They turned it into a welcome center type place, and it’s open twenty-four hours. I’m only part time there.”

  “
That sounds exhausting.”

“It can be, but it pays all my bills.”

“Do you have any family?” As soon as I asked the question I almost took it back. I was being a nosey ass. If she wanted me to know then she would tell me, right?

“I’ve got a step brother that lives somewhere outside of Houston. My Mom and Stepdad are both in prison.” She didn’t look at me when she said the words, and I didn’t dare ask why.

“So it’s just you and Shadow.” I tried to sound lighthearted, though truthfully I wanted to cry for her or hug the shit out of her.

That wouldn’t scare her at all, I thought.

“Yep, just Shadow and me. And we’re doing just fine.”

I smiled at her. “Good. But now you’re stuck with me too, and I eat way more than Shadow.”

She laughed. “I don’t have a lot of friends, so one couldn’t hurt right?”

  “Right.”

I reached for my phone and realized I hadn’t turned it on all day. I could only imagine the frenzy that Josh was in. He had probably already called the cops.

“Hey,” Letty said. “Don’t even look at that thing girl. It’ll make you feel like crap, and we have another episode of Gilmore Girls to watch. Besides, It’ll do him some good to worry.” She winked.

She was right. I set the phone back on my nightstand and did my best not to give it another thought. Out of sight, out of mind.

  Ten

  Josh

My patience was growing thin, like a cracked sheet of ice. Her phone was off, and she wasn’t in her dorm room when I went to check on her. If she needed some time then fine, but completely shutting me out wasn’t the right way to do it. I thought that Lee and I had reached an agreement. Sure she was upset, but she said we would pretend like the whole night hadn’t happened.

For fuck’s sake, she was my best friend. This was a bump. Just a small bump in the road, and I thought by now things would’ve gone back to normal.

If she’d just call me back.

“Man, quit pacing the damn floor. You’ll wear a hole in it.” Garrett growled. He sat back in his desk chair with his arms folded over his chest.

“It’s not like her. I’m just worried alright.”

“Look, I don’t know what’s gotten you so uptight. Stop worrying about it. Here,” he said, reaching for the opened bottle under his bed. “Have a drink.”

I refused it. “I’m trying to give my liver a break, man. Two more days until classes are back in session.”

“You’ve got to live a little. Let’s go do something. It’ll help take your mind off of her,” he suggested.

Clearly, I was acting like a ticking time bomb ready to explode at any minute. The four walls of the dorm room felt like they were closing in on me and maybe letting off some steam wouldn’t be such a bad idea.

“Let me try calling her one more time.”

I clenched my jaw at the sound of her voicemail. Squeezing the phone tightly in my hand, I ended the call. She’d better hope she answers me tomorrow.

“Let’s get out of here.” I grabbed my jacket off the back of my desk chair. I didn’t care where we were going, but I was too mad to be inside.

  “This way,” Garrett waved.

  “Where are we going?”

“There’s a frat house a couple of blocks from here that’s having a party. Don’t ask me the name, because I couldn’t tell you. I get those frat houses all mixed up. All I know is that I was told that the music would be so loud that I wouldn’t miss it.” He smiled.

I rolled my shoulders. “How did you get invited? You’re not frat.”

He just laughed. “Yeah, and I never will be. Tonight is an open party. No invitation needed.”

A party, that was open invite, only blocks away from my dorm… I’d say that’s a jackpot. I turned my phone to vibrate before slipping It into my pocket. I wanted to know if Lee called. I didn’t want to miss it, although she probably wouldn’t call. Either way, I wanted to know.

The air was cooler than it had been over the past few days. Winter here wasn’t usually too bad, but for some reason the cold today was different. It felt like it could snow.

“Do you hear that?” Garrett held his hand behind his ear. “My source was right.”

I rolled my eyes at him. One thing was for sure; I’d lucked out with Garrett as my roommate. The man knew everyone. He knew every party, every hangout spot, and had the best stash of liquor on campus. Yes, he could be high strung sometimes. But it was always a good time with him.

The two of us walked up the steps to the old white house. There were people scattered everywhere. You could barely get up the steps to the door that was standing wide open. The bass to the music was so loud that you could feel it in your chest.

Whew… And someone had fired up a joint. You could smell that shit as soon as you walked in.

Drugs weren’t my thing, but hey, to each his own.

I hadn’t made it ten feet inside the door when I felt my phone vibrate from my pocket. Shit. I tapped Garrett on the shoulder and told him I’d be right back as I raced back out the door.

Fishing my phone out of my pocket, I was disappointed to see that it wasn’t Lee. There wasn’t a name attached.

  “Hello,” I bit out.

“You haven’t called me back.” It was a girl’s voice and I didn’t recognize it. “It’s me Brynn.”

Right, Brynn. “I’m sorry. I’ve just been busy.”

“No worries. Where’s the party at?” She asked. Obviously she could hear the music.

“Some frat house right outside campus. Me and my buddy Garrett just got here. You should come over.” What better way to let off steam than with a gorgeous blonde? She was good to me the last time, and you shouldn’t waste a good thing.

“Yeah, okay. I’ll see ya in a bit.”

“Later,” I said before sliding the phone back into my pocket.

Rubbing my hands together roughly, I followed the slew of people back into the madhouse. My intentions for the night were good, in the beginning. But the beer was cold, the crowd was massive, and Brynn was going to help me blow my load. Screw good intentions.

After a couple of rounds of beer pong, I felt a small set of hands snake around my waist. Peeking over my shoulder I spotted a set of dark brown eyes below a head of wavy blonde hair.

“I was wondering when you were going to make it.” I slurred. Both games of beer pong were lost, and I was feeling very light on my feet.

Garrett nudged me as he walked past giving me an approving stare. She was pretty that’s for sure. Maybe I should’ve felt guilty after the way things went down with Lee, but I wasn’t. She knew everything there was to know about me. This behavior wouldn’t surprise her. She knew how I felt, and I knew how I felt. At that moment, I was horny as hell.

I wrapped my arm loosely around Brynn’s shoulder and led her down the hallway. There had to be an empty room somewhere.

  Bingo.

“I’ve missed you,” she said eagerly as I shut the door behind us. I made sure to lock it so no one would follow us in. I had no clue whose room we were in, and I didn’t care. It gave me a feeling of victory, like I was committing a crime and getting away with it.

Her tiny fingers slid loosely over the top of my jeans and gently touched my stomach. She was wasting no time. Her fingertips on my skin felt so good. I closed my eyes and let the moment sink in. My toes curled at the thought of what was about to happen.

I wrapped my hands around the bottom of her shirt and lifted it swiftly over her head, dropping it on the ground below. She wasn’t wearing a bra. Thank fuck. Her small breasts sat up firmly and I clasped my fingertips around her hard nipples. She moaned loudly as I gently tugged them.

  My pants were so tight.

She fiddled with the button of my jeans as I sucked hard on the side of her tiny little neck. The smell of her perfume was light and rather amazing. It made me want to lick her body all over.

  The sound of my zippe
r was like music to my ears. I wiggled loose of my jeans and let them hit the floor. She looked up at me with an evil grin before dropping to her knees in front of me. My dick was throbbing harder knowing what she was about to do to me. She tucked her fingers into my briefs and pulled them down to my ankles. My dick sprang free like a loose animal. I grabbed it at the base and bounced it around in front of her.

  Take it, baby.

And that’s just what she did. Her warm lips wrapped tightly around me and it felt so good that my legs trembled and my ass clenched. She had a gift. That precious mouth of hers could work miracles. I let my head fall back and bit my bottom lip as she moved faster and faster over me. The sound of her lips smacking around me made my dick twitch.

“Oh yeah,” I groaned. “That’s it.”

She moaned and the vibrations of her mouth almost killed me.

I gripped the back of her neck and led her mouth, once, twice, three times over me before pulling her up quickly. Any more of that and I’d be done.

Her swollen lips looked sexy as hell as she wiped her face.

She took two steps back until her legs met the bed. My body towered over hers. “You want me inside you?” I asked. It was the beer talking, but I knew I wanted to be inside of her.

“Yes,” she said through heavy breaths.

I climbed over her on the bed and kissed a path up her neck. I moved my hands lower between her legs and rubbed the sweet spot that I knew was just below those jeans. Her breaths came harder as I moved quicker, and I couldn’t stand the anticipation any longer. My fingers unfastened her jeans and I slid them off of her as she wiggled out of them. Stepping quickly off the bed I reached to grab wallet out of my jeans so that I could get a condom.

I used my teeth to rip the package open, before pouncing on her like a dog in heat. I rubbed the wet spot between her legs just enough that she arched her back in pleasure. She was warm, wet, and ready for me.

Sliding the condom on, I moved my body just above hers, letting my dick massage her ache. It was a trick I liked to use. You go back and forth, and back and forth. Then when they expect you to go back, you slide inside them. Works like a charm every time.
