“Shit, then let’s go to my uncle’s spot, ma,” Felix suggested.

“You live with your uncle?” Candy retorted as she cocked her head back.

“Just for the moment, ma; I’m not even from out here,” he informed her. “So are you coming or not?” He waited for her response as Candy dwelled on the idea.

Candy wanted to get fucked, and she was already horny from dancing and grinding on his dick. “It better be worth the while,” Candy smirked.

“Oh, it will be,” he assured her as he grabbed her hand.

As they made their way through the crowd, Candy spotted her girls. She excused herself, pulling away from him, and rushed over to them. She told them where she was going and that she would call them in the morning. They didn’t have too much to say about it, because they were all tipsy and having a good old time. Candy returned to Felix, and hand in hand, they forced themselves through the crowd and exited the club. Candy’s girls shook their heads in unison, as they saw her walking off with a dude she hardly even knew.

Felix held onto Candy’s hand since she was a little tipsy. She stumbled out of the club. He guided her out to his uncle’s black Expedition truck He opened the car door and helped her get in. He couldn’t wait until he got her to his uncle’s crib.

Candy moaned crazily as she sat on top of Felix, riding his big dick back and forth. She was ass naked, except for her high heels, digging into the white sheets that were once perfectly attached to the bed. He held onto her ass, squeezing her buttocks together. Candy loved the way that Felix thrust in and out of her pussy as she rode his dick. Felix held onto her hips, as he put in work as well. He went up so far inside of her that he felt his dick hitting her cervix.

“Damn!” Candy shouted out. “It feels so good,” Candy moaned.

“Damn, girl!” Felix shouted out, as he watched her titties bouncing up and down in his face, turning him on even more.

“Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Oh yeah!” Candy sang as she leaned in and rode his dick faster. Her ass slapped up against his sweaty, hairy thighs, making smacking noises. Candy squeezed the sheets, tightening them in her fist, as she came all over his dick.

“Turn that ass around,” Felix demanded.

Candy did as he said. She got on her knees with her ass in the air, pressing her face against the sheets. Felix smacked her round ass and caressed it, before sliding his dick inside her moist pussy. Candy turned around and watched in euphoria as he hit it from the back. He slid himself in and out of her wet pussy, as he held onto her hips and pounded harder. His thighs smacked against her ass. He watched how every time he went in harder, her ass jiggled a little. Felix titled his head back as he felt himself about to cum.

“Damn, ma, I’m about to cum!” he exclaimed, panting, trying to catch his breath.

Candy threw her ass up against his dick, making him want to cum faster. He exploded inside of her, then took out his dick and released the rest of his cum on her butt. Candy smiled, shaking her ass as the remnants of his cum cascaded down her legs. She got up and asked for a towel. He handed it to her and she wiped herself off.

  “That shit felt bomb, ma.”

“Yeah, I know.” Candy winked at him and walked into the bathroom. She turned on the shower water and hopped inside.

Several minutes later, Felix joined her and they kissed and caressed each other’s bodies with soap. After showering and drying themselves off, they crawled back into bed. Candy lay in the bed next to Felix, with her head propped up against his chest. She placed her hand on his chest and rubbed it.

“So Felix, you said you weren’t from around here. So where are you from?” she questioned, eagerly wanting to know.

  “I’m from Cuba,” he said.

“Oh, word? That’s where my best friend is from,” Candy said excitedly, referring to Mercedes.

  “Word? That’s wassup.”

“So why are you in New York, if you don’t live out here?” she questioned.

“Damn, I can’t visit?” They both chuckled. “Nah, but me and my Uncle Romeo had to come out here and handle some business, nah’mean?”

“What kind of business?” Candy kept asking questions.

“Damn, ma, you sure do ask a lot of questions.” He smiled. “You the FBI or something?” he joked.

“Nah, I’m just curious.” Candy looked up in his eyes. “I mean, for all I know you’re involved in something dangerous and something could happen to me.”

“Well, if it does happen…” He lifted up her chin as he stared into her eyes. “You don’t even have to worry about it. You’re safe in my arms.” He smiled, reassuring her.

Candy wondered what he meant, but she didn’t ask. She nestled up under his arms as she got comfortable and fell asleep.

The next morning, Candy woke up as her eyes fluttered open. She lifted up her sleepy head, looking around the room, and noticed that Felix wasn’t there. Then a couple of seconds later, he emerged from the bathroom.

  “Good morning, ma,” he smiled.

“Morning.” Candy sat up. She quickly grabbed the sheets and wrapped them around her body as an older Cuban man walked into the room.

“Ay yo’, let me holler at you for a minute,” he said, sounding a little aggravated.

“I’ll be back,” Felix said to Candy. He exited the room and closed the door behind him.

Candy eavesdropped at the door, listening in closely to their conversation.

“Ay yo’, nephew, what the fuck is you doing?”

“What do you mean?” Felix asked.

“What’s that bitch doing in there?” Romeo asked.

“She ain’t a bitch. She’s a chick that I met last night at the club.”

Romeo chuckled as he shook his head in disappointment. “We didn’t come all the way from Cuba to fuck bitches!” he raised his voice. “She got to get the fuck up outta here, man!” He held up his thumb as he pointed it at the door. “I don’t want this bitch getting all in your head.” Romeo pointed at his head, tapping it lightly. “And I don’t want you to lose your mind with your head all in her pussy.” He left his nephew standing there speechless.

Felix returned to the room, where Candy was getting dressed at a fast pace. “Where are you going?” he asked as he closed the door behind him.

“I have to go, right? You’re not supposed to be fucking bitches, right?” Candy’s eyebrows arched up as she struggled to pull her dress up over her ass.

“Nah, Candy, it ain’t even like that. He tripping, ma.” Felix sucked his teeth.

“Whatever.” Candy waved her hand dismissively as she made her way to the door.

“I’m sorry, ma. Let’s go out. I want to take you out.” He stood in front of her and stared into her eyes.

Candy had her hand on the doorknob, ready to leave. She saw in his eyes that he sincerely didn’t want her to go, so she didn’t. They ended up going to get something to eat, and after Candy showed him around New York, he spent several hundred dollars on her, buying her anything and everything that she wanted.

Felix slowly pulled up in front of Mercedes’s house. Candy reached over and kissed him on the lips, thanking him for a wonderful time.

“No problem, ma,” he said, as he took out a stack and handed it to her.

Without any questions, Candy took the money and tossed it in her purse. “I’ll see you later.” Candy smiled.

“Call me.” Felix watched as Candy walked up the stairs, waving at him as she got in the house safely.

“I saw that nice-ass black Expedition pull up,” Mercedes said, as she stood in front of the window, watching the truck pull off.

“Yeah, that was this Papi I met at the club. He’s from Cuba,” Candy cooed.

Cuba, huh? I wonder what the fuck he doing up here? Mercedes thought. However, she shrugged it off, thinking it was nothing. “Oh, really? What’s his name?”

“Felix,” Candy said, cheesing ear to ear.

  “So you met
him at the club and y’all fucked?” There was a moment of silence in the room as Candy looked around and a smile appeared on her face. “Awwwww!” Mercedes yelled. She knew that Candy did; it was written all over her face. She was glowing.

  “Yeah,” Candy admitted.

“You little hoe!” Mercedes joked, as they both laughed in unison.

“Shit, this nigga took me shopping and gave me some dough,” Candy said, as she pulled out the wad of cash and flashed it, showing off.

Mercedes wasn’t impressed; she had tons of money. “Okay then, Candy.” Mercedes smiled. “You got that.” She gave her a pound.

They sat back on the couch as they kicked it. They ordered a pizza and ended up watching movies all night long.

  ***

The next morning, Mercedes woke up when she heard her cell phone ringing. She reached over, grabbed her BlackBerry off the nightstand, and lowered her eyes as she looked at the caller ID. It was her Aunt Brenda calling. Mercedes pressed the green button and pressed the phone up to her ear.

“Hey Auntie,” Mercedes answered the phone.

“I know you just got out of jail and everything, but I need help.” Brenda sighed into the receiver.

“All right, Auntie, what is it?” Mercedes wondered as she sat up in the bed.

“Sean got me kicked out the shelter! I don’t have anywhere for me and the kids to stay.” Her voice started to crack. “I know you just got out of jail, but I can’t live out on these streets, Mercedes. I need you right now!” Brenda cried.

“Listen; calm down, Auntie, I’m on my way over there now.”

Mercedes hung up, got in the shower and got dressed. She dressed in some black jeans, with a short white V-neck shirt, and some heels. She brushed her hair back into a sleek ponytail and slid her New York fitted over her head. She grabbed her Louis Vuitton bag and exited the house. She had promised her aunt that she would help her out and buy her a house. Mercedes knew that her father would have wanted her to do that. She was helping out the Carter family, especially since she didn’t have her father or uncle around to help. She didn’t want her aunt and younger cousins living in a shelter, because her family didn’t belong there. Brenda had a sixteen-year-old son named Sean, a six-year-old daughter named Nyla, and her youngest son Dashawn was four.

Mercedes stopped by the bank and took out twenty thousand dollars. She slipped it into her Louis Vuitton bookbag and tossed it over her shoulder. She got into the car, tossed the bag filled with money in the passenger seat, and drove off. She pulled up in front of the Brooklyn Community Housing and parked the car. She grabbed her bag, got out of her Benz, and made her way inside the shelter. Once she got inside the shelter, Mercedes noticed her two younger cousins sitting on the bench, looking sad. She saw her aunt sitting down, and when Brenda spotted Mercedes, she quickly got up and rushed over to her. Brenda wrapped her arms around her neck and cried in her arms.

“What happened?” Mercedes questioned when her aunt broke down crying.

“They locked him up! They locked my baby up and kicked me out the shelter!” Brenda cried. “He’s gone now and I don’t have nowhere for the kids to stay…”

Mercedes rubbed her back and told her everything was going to be all right. They all walked out, hopped into Mercedes’s coupe, and strapped on their seat belts. She pulled off and headed straight to the mall. They drove in silence until they got to the mall. She told her aunt and cousins to get whatever they wanted and that she would pay for it. They all went crazy, like little kids in a candy store. A couple of hours passed by and Mercedes had already spent a little over a thousand dollars. They all exited the mall, excited, loaded with shopping bags.

“Thank you, Mercedes, I really appreciate this.” Brenda smiled as she strapped on her seat belt.

“No problem, Auntie.” Mercedes smiled. “I got one more surprise for you.”

“What is it?” Brenda asked her, eager to know. “You did enough. The kids are really happy,” Brenda said, looking back at her kids, smiling as they eyed their new clothes. “I’m happy.”

“Yeah, I know… but this is a much better and bigger surprise,” Mercedes warned her.

Brenda just looked at her, wondering what the surprise was. Mercedes pulled up to the condo, parked and got out the car, and then helped the kids get out. Mercedes grabbed the keys to the condo from her purse, headed up the stairs, and opened the door. The kids rushed through the door excitedly, running up the stairs, playing tag. Mercedes looked back and noticed that Brenda had stopped in her tracks and had tears in her eyes, with her hand covering her mouth.

“No, Mercedes…no…” Brenda said, crying tears of joy.

“Auntie, here, I got something for you,” Mercedes said, pulling her back down. “Yes, Auntie, this is your new house. This is all yours.” Mercedes smiled.

Brenda slowly walked up the stairs and examined the house. She was amazed as she walked around the entire condo, filled with joy. She came back into the foyer and hugged Mercedes, rocking her from side to side. “Thank you, thank you!” Brenda sang. She pulled back from the embrace and kissed Mercedes on her cheek. “Thank you, Mercedes, I appreciate it.”

“You’re welcome.” Mercedes pulled out ten stacks. “Here, take this. This is for the rent; go buy the kids some food.”

“Thank you, Mercedes baby.” Brenda smiled and gently took the money. “You’re generous, just like your father. You’re just like him.”

  Chapter Ten

  Old faces

Maria entered the grocery store and pushed the shopping cart around with her Prada purse hanging off her shoulder. She walked down the cereal aisle as her eyes scanned the shelves for Honey Nut Cheerios. She finally came across them, picked up the box, and threw it in the cart. Maria smiled as she grabbed the Cookie Crisp from the shelves and held the cereal in her hand. It had been Mercedes’s favorite cereal ever since she was a little girl. She reminisced about when Mercedes was younger, and how she would throw a fit if she didn’t have her favorite cereal for breakfast every morning. She remembered one morning when she had to wake up and drive to the store, because she ran out of Cookie Crisp. Maria smiled as she tossed the cereal in the cart and continued to walk down the aisle. As her eyes scanned the shelves, Maria didn’t notice a woman staring at her as she stood several feet away from her.

  “Hey Maria!” someone called out.

Maria looked up as she heard her name being called, and the voice sounded familiar too. A smile appeared across her face as she saw her Aunt Maleese standing in front of her. “Maleese?” Maria said with a surprised tone. Maleese was the one who had taken Maria in when she was pregnant with Mercedes. She didn’t recognize her, because she was older and she had a long slash across her face that cut into her lip, making it look as if she had a deformed lip. Maria tried hard not to stare at her aunt’s face, because she knew exactly how it felt to be stared at. She touched her face, remembering what Emilio had done to her.

“How have you been, Maria?” They ran to each other and embraced, rocking each other from side to side.

“I’m doing well. How are you?”

“Life couldn’t be any better for me. I had to leave Cuba.”

“Why, what happened?” Maria sounded worried.

“Your crazy-ass father did this to me. Do you see this?” She pointed to her face as she shook her head in shame. Maria wasn’t surprised, because she knew her father was capable of doing something like that. “He asked me if I knew where you were and I told him no, and he said that if I was lying, he would kill me. This was about two years ago,” Maleese informed her.

  “Damn, thank you.”

  “No problem.”

“Why’d you move out here? Why here out of all cities?” Maria questioned with curiosity.

“I needed to get away, plus I wanted to find you, so I can warn you about your psycho father,” Maleese lied.

“Well, thanks for looking out and keeping my secret safe,” Maria thanked her again. She didn’t know
how to repay her, so she invited her over for dinner. “All right, well, call me.” Maria quickly wrote her number and address down on the piece of paper and handed it to Maleese. After she was done, she lifted her head up and her heart dropped tremendously, as she spotted one of her father’s workers whom she hadn’t seen in years. The last time she saw him was when he was escorted away by the cops and put into the police cruiser.

“Maria?” Maleese waved her hands back and forth in front of Maria’s face, trying to get her attention. “It looks like you just saw a ghost,” she chuckled.

“I have to go, Auntie. It was nice seeing you.” Maria quickly turned around and pushed her cart down the aisle. She wished this was a dream that she could wake up from. It was a man named Romeo and he was in his mid-forties. She could never forget a face. Maria quickly hid her face as she picked up a magazine to try to cover up.

Maria quickly passed by Romeo, ignoring him. She went over to the self-checkout lane and quickly scanned her things as she tossed them down the belt, not caring if some items scanned or not. She looked over and noticed he was in the same line as her, but he was a couple of people behind her. Maria paid for her food and tossed it into two bags within seconds. She carried the bags out of the store and rushed to her car. Her fingers trembled as she tried to hurry up and get the key in the car door. Looking over her shoulder, she didn’t see anybody. She thought Romeo was still in the store, but little did she know he was already in his car, watching her every move.

Maria got in the car and tossed the groceries on the passenger seat. She started up the car and drove off like a madwoman. She didn’t want to go home. She drove straight to Mercedes’s house, not even thinking about the black Expedition truck that was discreetly following her. He parked the car a couple cars down from her car and watched Maria grab the groceries out of the car and head up the stairs. Maria didn’t want to ring the doorbell; instead, she banged on the front door. Mercedes came rushing to the door and flung the door open.

“Why are you knocking you like you the fucking police or something? Damn!” Mercedes watched as her mother looked behind her shoulder before entering and a black Expedition drove by slowly.
