“Something’s happening.”
His gaze fell toward his arm and his eyes took on a knowing glance as he looked back to her. “What I needed, I found.”
The glowing grew across his flesh and his presence became hazy. Cassie realized how true his words were, he’d been longing to make love. He needed to understand the caress of a woman’s body against his to settle his soul, to no longer mourn and linger. She raised her hand to his face and even though he had the light around him, he still appeared solid.
“You’re leaving.”
“It’s my time to go.” He brushed his knuckles across her cheek. “I won’t regret the day I died. I won’t regret being stuck in non-existence because it all brought me you.” His smile so warm, tears stung Cassie’s eyes. “Thank you, Cassandra. Thank you for gift you’ve given to me.” His eyes were gentle. “Look for me in Heaven. I’ll find you there.” His essence faded further. The solidness she’d sensed on her hand grew weaker. “‘Til we meet again—”
He faded away until her hand rested against nothing but air.
Cassie gasped and sat straight up, looking around. He was gone.
Really gone.
Her time with Ethan Thomas was short lived, however, it was an experience which would forever impact her life. A man to measure all others up too and a connection she’d always yearn to find with another.
A story she’d never believe if she said out loud, yet that didn’t mean it hadn’t happened or that Ethan didn’t exist. What took place between them, the connection she had known with him she had never expected, nor ever dreamed possible.
She’d meet him again, one day, when her life had come to its end. Until she did, she’d keep him in her heart.
