Maggie screeched, “What are you doing? It’s cold in here.”
For a moment he stared at the lovely vision that was his wife. He hardened instantly as desire burned through his blood. Scott couldn’t wait for her surprise. He kissed her with deep passion. “Get dressed,” he croaked. “We’re going outside.”
Maggie pulled a robe over her nightgown and stepped into her heeled slippers. “Okay, I’m ready.”
She stared at him as if he were crazy and he was. Crazy about her. Scott led her to his carport behind the apartment building and watched Maggie’s reaction with anticipation. Maggie shivered in the cold. Scott knew she wouldn’t feel it much longer.
“What’s under that tarp?” she asked. “I love the huge red ribbon and bow.”
He saw her eyes light with happiness. “It’s your Christmas gift from me.” Scott pulled the bow apart on top and the ribbon fell to the ground. He slowly pulled the tarp aside, uncovering a 1925 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Maythorn, red exterior with black leather interior.
Maggie gasped. “It can’t be. Is this the same car— Where did you get this?”
Scott beamed from ear to ear. “I borrowed it from a friend of a friend. And yes, it’s the exact car we drove in 1925 perfectly restored.” He opened the door and motioned Maggie inside.
Scott followed her into the backseat of the car and closed the door. Maggie sucked in a deep breath. With tears in her eyes she turned to Scott. “Oh my…I can’t believe this.”
He’d set a small table in the large backseat area and covered it with a snowy tablecloth. On the table sat a silver bucket that held a bottle of champagne and next to it was a box of petit fours. “Do you like it?”
Maggie threw her arms around Scott as tears fell from her face. “I love it. Just as I love you.”
Scott laughed as he held the woman of his dreams, past and future, in his arms and said, “I promised you that one day we’d make love in the backseat of a car. Now’s the time to make that promise come true.”
