“I don’t know. I’ve only seen the people he’s working closest with,” I replied. “And before I forget, I found out that Lucifer already has his false prophet lined up.”
“Who is it?” Andy asked.
“It’s Gina. Evan told me right before I escaped,” I answered. “He also said Lucifer wants me to help him win the election and help Gina do whatever it is the false prophet is supposed to do.”
“The false prophet is supposed to be a religious leader who can perform miracles,” Holly explained.
“I bet anything Lucifer wants me to help her perform those miracles,” I added.
“I’d say it’s a safe bet,” Andy said.
“So what do we do now?” Holly asked.
“We should start building an army,” Andy suggested.
“Holly, can you gather everyone who escaped with you?” I asked.
“Yeah, I’m in constant contact with them,” she replied.
“We’re going to need a lot more people,” I pointed out.
“Do you think you’ll be able to recruit more?” Andy asked.
“I think I can convince my friends and family to join us and I’ll ask everyone to do the same,” Holly answered.
“Great, that should work,” I said.
“If everyone reaches out to their friends and family, we’ll have more than enough star children to help us fight in no time,” Andy mentioned.
“We should make sure everyone brushes up on their fighting skills,” I suggested.
“Right, I’ll go get started,” Holly announced. “If I need you, I know how to find you.”
“Just be careful, Holly. Once Lucifer finds out I’ve gotten away, there’s bound to be a search party for me and if they get close, I don’t want you to get caught.”
“I will,” she replied while giving me a hug. “I can’t thank you enough for helping me.”
“You’re welcome. Take care of yourself.”
“You too,” Holly said as she left the apartment.
I closed the door behind her and turned to Andy. “So, we have the army taken care of.”
“That’s one less thing to worry about.”
“What should we do now?”
“The only thing I can think of is to work on finding the last two horsemen.”
“Didn’t you say they’re in hiding?”
“It seems that way, but they have to be somewhere doing their jobs,” Andy started. “Maybe there aren’t any headlines about it.”
“But why wouldn’t a massive amount of deaths be a headline?”
“Maybe Famine and Death are somewhere that doesn’t have media outlets.”
“Like where?”
“A native tribe somewhere,” Andy suggested.
“That would explain the lack of headlines.”
“Yeah, so how do we find them?”
“The only thing I can think of is if we go to the tribes and see if Famine and Death are there.”
“That could be a waste of time.”
“I know, but how else can we find them?” I asked.
“I don’t know.”
I felt like everything was falling apart. Lucifer was without a doubt looking for me and soon enough, he was going to have me taken away again. The punishment I was going to receive would be cruel and I wasn’t sure I was going to make it out in one piece.
“What if we talk to Raphael and see if he can help me discover my other abilities?”
“Do you think you have some other ability that can help us find the horsemen?” Andy asked.
“It can’t hurt to try, plus I want to know about what other abilities I might have.”
“Alright, let’s go see Raphael.”
“I think I should go alone,” I said hesitantly.
“Why?”
“Because I don’t want Lucifer to get a hold of my body while I’m at headquarters,” I explained. “I need you to stay here to protect me.”
“What if I get Brian and Jen to come protect your body while I go with you to train with Raphael?”
“That should be fine. Where are they?”
“They’re looking for Famine and Death.”
“So you already knew?”
“It’s just a theory.”
“Alright, so how do we get them to come back?”
“They should be back soon,” Andy answered as he opened a window.
“Oh, yeah, I can feel it now.” I jumped as they flew through the window.
“Aimee, you’re back!” Jen squealed excitedly as she ran to hug me.
“It’s great to see you,” I replied.
“Glad you made it back in one piece, kiddo,” Brian said.
“Me too,” I answered.
“Did you guys have any luck?” Andy asked.
“No,” Brian responded.
“Where should we look next?” Jen asked.
“I’m not sure yet, but right now we need you guys to do something for us,” Andy began.
“What is it?” Jen asked.
“I’m going to do some training with Raphael to see if I have any other abilities I don’t know about,” I explained. “I need you guys to watch over my body incase Lucifer tries to steal me back. Andy wants to come with me.”
“Okay, no problem,” Brian answered.
“Thanks guys,” Andy said.
Moments later, Andy and I were outside of the Training Department. We walked inside and looked around for Raphael. I hoped I was going to discover new abilities that would prove helpful in finding the remaining horsemen.
“Aimee, Andy. I didn’t expect to see you two back here any time soon,” Raphael said.
“I didn’t expect it either,” I replied. “But I need your help.”
“With what?” Raphael asked.
“I discovered I have all of these other abilities that no one else thought were possible,” I explained.
“And we were wondering if you can help her with any other abilities she might have,” Andy added.
“Alright, let’s start with you telling me about what else you can do so far.” Raphael led us into one of his training rooms.
“Well I can heal people now,” I started.
“No one has ever been able to do that,” Raphael interrupted.
“We know,” Andy said.
“Michael said I’m discovering all these new abilities no one else thought possible because God gave them to me for the purpose of stopping the apocalypse,” I explained.
“And she’s getting stronger,” Andy added.
“What do you mean?” Raphael asked.
“She’s been able to fly great distances without using much energy,” Andy replied.
“I flew from Amsterdam to Chicago without having to stop,” I clarified.
“Not to mention the fact that she was hanging onto me,” Andy added.
“That’s very impressive,” Raphael said.
“So what do you think is going on?” I asked.
“Michael is right,” Raphael answered. “We should find out what else you can do.”
“How do we do that?” Andy asked.
“I am going to send you to Uriel,” Raphael replied. “He will be able to tell you about all of your abilities.”
I was nervous about meeting Uriel even though I knew it was ridiculous. I should have been more excited to finally learn what was happening to me. This nagging feeling I had that something unspeakably horrible was going to happen wouldn’t leave me alone. It was all I could think about the entire trip to Uriel’s office.
“Aimee, it’s good to see you,” Uriel said as Andy and I entered his office.
“You too,” I replied nervously.
“We both know you don’t remember me,” Uriel smiled. Pure love radiated from within his soul which made me feel slightly more comfortable. He seemed less serious and intimidating than Michael and Raphael. There were subtle differences between him and his archangel brothers. He lacked the hair of Michael and Raphael but baldness suited Ur
iel well. He wore a suit similar to Michael’s which made me wonder if they shared a wardrobe.
“You caught me,” I replied, trying to seem confident.
“That is quite alright,” he said trying to reassure me. “Raphael told me why you’re here. Tell me about the abilities you already know of.”
I took a deep breath. “I can heal people and fly great distances without using much energy. I can shatter people’s protective shields and control a massive amount of people at once. I can control the weather and electronics and pretty much anything I want.”
“Seems like you’ve discovered most of it,” Uriel replied.
“What are the other things?”Andy asked.
I was nervous to find out what else I could do. I was nervous there wasn’t going to be any explanation for what was happening to me. Otherwise I was going to have to deal with it all on my own and I didn’t think I could handle it. Andy rubbed my hand to calm me down.
“Are you ready, Aimee?” Uriel asked.
“Yeah,” I answered.
“Give me your hand.” He extended his hand towards me.
“What for?” I asked.
“I have to manually give you these last few abilities. You have to be certain you’re ready for them first,” Uriel explained.
“What are they?” I asked nervously.
“Once I give them to you, you will be able to tell if anyone is lying just by looking at them,” Uriel explained. “You will also be able to take over a person’s body.”
“But I already can control a person’s body,” I said.
“Not control,” Uriel started.
“Take over,” Andy interrupted. “You’ll be able to jump into a person’s body.”
“What?” I asked shocked by the possibility. “Like…I’ll be able to possess a person?”
“Yes,” Uriel answered.
“Why would I need that ability?” I asked.
“There will come a time when you will need it,” Uriel answered.
“Are those the only two abilities you’ll be giving me?” I asked.
“No, there are more,” Uriel replied.
“What are they?” Andy asked.
“How much will I be able to do?” My mind raced with the possibilities.
“I cannot tell you everything,” Uriel started. “But once I give you the rest of your abilities, you will quickly discover them on your own.”
“Why can’t you tell me everything?” I asked.
“Because it is what God wants,” Uriel explained.
I understood what was going on. “He wants me to make a choice.”
“To choose between good and evil,” Andy added.
“That is correct,” Uriel replied. “Now, if you are ready, give me your hand.”
“I’m ready.” I put my hand in Uriel’s.
With my hands sandwiched between his, a blue ribbon of light passed down Uriel’s arm and into my hand. I watched it flow up my arm and spread through my entire body. It wasn’t long before I saw it radiate outward in a bright blue shield that encircled me. Uriel let go of my hand and moments later, the blue shield retreated into my body.
“The process is complete,” Uriel began. “You will discover your new abilities soon.”
“Okay, thank you,” I said.
“You are welcome,” Uriel answered. “I want you to train with Raphael once you get used to your new abilities.”
“I will,” I replied.
“How do you feel?” Andy asked as we left Uriel’s office.
“Like I did before.”
“Do you think you’ll really be able to tell if someone’s lying to you with just one look?” Andy asked.
“That’s what Uriel said.”
“Maybe we should test it out.”
“Alright, lie to me,” I challenged.
“I’m a better cook than you,” Andy said waiting for my reaction.
I saw a dark and murky pink cloud come out of the top of Andy’s head as the words passed his lips. I wondered if that was what I would see whenever someone lied to me. “Now tell me something truthful.”
“I love you with all my heart.”
I didn’t see anything come out of his head. “That was cheesy,” I laughed.
“But was it the truth?” Andy asked.
“Of course it was. Tell me another lie. I want to make sure.”
“You have no fashion sense.” Another murky pink cloud came out of his head.
“That’s such a lie,” I laughed. “You love my style.”
“So you’ve got the hang of it now?”
“Yeah.”
“Good, let’s go talk to Michael.”
We made our way over to the Critical Issues Department. Just as we were about to open the door, I felt everything shake. “Do you feel that?”
Chapter 31
I woke up to find Jen and Brian on the ground unconscious. I quickly ran over to them and placed a hand on both of their heads to heal them. They both woke up when I heard someone walk into the room. I signaled to the two of them to stay down as I turned around to see Liz and Frank.
“What happened?” I asked pretending not to know they were on the wrong side of this war.
“I don’t know, we just got here,” Liz said. I saw a dark pink cloud coming out of her head so I knew she was lying.
“I meant about how we got separated,” I clarified.
“We went to the house and found it trashed,” Frank answered. “You guys were nowhere to be found so we went looking for you.”
I saw the same murky pink cloud that meant Frank was lying to me. I didn’t let on that I knew they were lying. I was going to get rid of them eventually; I just needed to wait for the right moment. I wondered why Andy wasn’t waking up so I rushed over and put a hand on him to heal any injuries he might have had. He woke up and I signaled for him to stay down until the time was right.
“So, how did you two find us?” I asked.
“Call it a hunch,” Frank lied.
“Then why did it take you so long?” I asked suspiciously.
“Okay, you caught us! We’re working for Lucifer!” Liz yelled in a panic. She was telling the truth, even though I already knew it.
In that instant, Jen, Brian and Andy sprang up. They started fighting Frank and Liz and I just stood there watching the scene play out. I wondered why there weren’t more people there to take me away. If Lucifer sent them, he would have known I could easily get away. He must have thought I was clueless enough to go quietly.
I was tired of all the fighting and running so I decided to force everyone to stop their fighting and sit down. I tied Frank and Liz to a chair before I lifted my control on them. I had every intention to find out exactly what their orders were.
“You’re going to tell me exactly why you’re here,” I demanded.
“Like hell we are,” Frank protested.
I laughed. “Do you really think I can’t get it out of you?”
“You wouldn’t torture us,” Liz said.
“No,” I replied. “But I don’t have to torture you.”
“Then how do you expect us to tell you anything?” Frank challenged.
“I have my ways,” I answered cheerfully.
“Aimee, what are you doing?” Jen asked.
“I need to know what their orders are,” I answered.
“Why?” Brian asked. “I thought we already knew what Lucifer was planning.”
“I have a feeling we’re missing something,” I answered.
“What is it?” Andy asked.
“I don’t know,” I replied. “That’s what we’re going to find out.”
“No you’re not,” Frank said with a devilish smile.
In that moment, the door burst open and in rushed a group of people I’ve never seen before. It was an ambush. I looked over to the window and saw it was still open. I gave Andy, Jen and Brian a look that hinted at my new plan. We each fought our way to the window and flew out. We landed inside my
apartment a few blocks away only to find another group waiting for us. We flew right back out and into an empty alley.
“Where are we going to go now?” Jen asked.
“I don’t know,” I answered.
“I bet they’re waiting in all of our houses,” Andy mentioned.
“Where do we go from here?” I asked.
“I don’t know, but it smells over here,” Brian said. “Let’s start moving.”
We all laughed in agreement. We walked out of the alley and down the street. I was nervous about having to run again. I knew I shouldn’t have been nervous since I was getting stronger but I was tired of running and just wanted the whole thing to be over.
“We should run,” Andy mumbled as he noticed a group heading towards us.
“Oh, great,” I whined as I started running.
“Where will we go?” Jen asked.
“Maybe we should try to find an abandoned building,” I suggested.
“There are none around here,” Brian pointed out.
“Then let’s fly to a different area,” I offered.
“It doesn’t have to be an abandoned building,” Andy said. “It could be a foreclosed house. It doesn’t matter as long as it’s empty.”
“Where are we going to find one?” Jen asked.
“I know exactly where to go,” Andy replied. He grabbed onto me and I followed his lead to form a chain so Andy could take us to our new destination. It wasn’t long before we ended up outside a nice house with a foreclosure sign in the front yard. “Here we are.”
“Where are we?” I asked.
“It looks like the suburbs,” Brian answered.
“Yeah, I figured we should get out of the city,” Andy said as he opened the door.
“What do we do now?” I asked. “I don’t want to hide forever.”
“We’re going to stay here and come up with a plan,” Andy answered.
“Alright,” I sighed as I sat on the floor.
“Does anyone else think it’s weird that Liz folded so fast?” Brian asked.
“Yeah,” Jen started. “Do you think it was part of their plan?”
“It could be,” Andy answered.
“Maybe they wanted to try to gain our trust back just to betray us all over again,” I offered.
“It’s possible,” Andy said.
“Let’s say Lucifer is trying to kidnap Aimee again,” Brian began. “Why would he even bother having Frank and Liz try to regain our trust?”
