Summer’s about to heat up in more ways than one…
Elementary school teacher, Summer Wallace, has been looking forward to summertime…her favorite time of the year. Not only does she get a break from her sometimes unruly students, she’s looking forward to letting her hair down when she and her best friend and cousin, Dionne take their annual summer trip, this year to sizzling Miami- the fun in the sun capital of the world.
However, Summer’s excitement is short-lived after her boyfriend suddenly dumps her. Humiliated after she catches him with another woman, she contemplates skipping the trip to Miami in favor or staying home to drown her sorrows in ice cream and romance novels, but Dionne is not even trying to hear that, so she packs her bags and heads to The Magic City.
What promises to be her most depressing summer vacation ever takes an interesting turn after she visit’s the hotel spa and is given a nearly orgasmic rub-down by smooth-talking massage therapist, Mekhi, who is the epitome of dark chocolate sexiness. While Mekhi relieves Summer of her built up tension and stress, an immediate, undeniable sexual chemistry permeates the air in the room around them. Will Summer resist temptation or give in to her desires by engaging in a fling on the rebound with this sexy stranger?
Chapter 1 ‘Work work work work work work…’ Summer danced around her room to the sounds of Rihanna as she packed her bags for her upcoming trip to Miami. She stopped in front of the mirror and attempted to imitate Rihanna’s dutty wine and bogle dance moves from the music video while the Jamaican dancehall song played in the background.
“I can’t wait to get to Miami and hit up the club,” she said to herself after the song ended.
Summer taught fourth grade English at Lakeside Elementary in Atlanta, and while the usually reserved teacher spent her weekends grading papers, writing lesson plans, and watching Netflix, she planned on letting her hair down and having some carefree fun in the Miami heat. It was the end of June, school was out for summer, and she was looking forward to the summer trip she usually took with her cousin and best friend, Dionne. Dionne had suggested that they start taking a destination trip during the summer ever since her husband died suddenly of a heart attack three years ago at the young age of thirty.
“Life is extremely too short,” she’d said. “We can wake up one morning and be dead by the end of the day. We need to live life and enjoy it while we can.”
And so, for the past three years, Summer and Dionne packed their bags for one week out of the summer and went on a vacation. The first trip, they’d gone to Las Vegas and had a blast. Last summer, they’d taken a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico, and this year the chosen destination was Miami, Florida- one of the world’s most popular vacation spots.
What made this trip even more special was the fact that this time, Summer would have a man on her arm. Usually unlucky in love, she was often teased about being the old maid of the family- the one who never brought a man at family functions, and the one who was sure to grow old alone with nothing but her cats, Jasper, Bella, and Blackie to keep her company. Summer spent every moment that she wasn’t working or sleeping taking care of her feline babies, as she called them…giving a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘crazy cat lady.’ She talked to them, sang to them, and proved that she had entirely too much time on her hands by dressing them in silly clothes, which had many of her family members concerned about her mental state.
“Summer, I’m starting to worry about you. I need you to get yourself a life- and by life, I mean a man- and stop spending all your free time in the company of those cats, because that’s not healthy. I knew I shouldn’t have drank those couple of cocktails while I was pregnant with you, because I’m beginning to think you’re a few peas short of a casserole, if you know what I mean,” her mother had told her a year or so earlier while they talked on the phone one night. “How do you expect to find a husband sitting at home cuddled up with those ugly, evil cats day in and day out?”
“First of all, my babies aren’t ugly or evil; and second of all, when God wants me to have a man, He’ll send him to me. In the meantime, my kittens give me all the time, love, and attention I need,” she’d responded.
Apparently, God heard her statement, because about two months after that phone call with her mother, she bumped into her boyfriend, Justin, while she was at PetSmart getting her furballs- her mom’s nickname for her cats- groomed.
They were both sitting in the waiting area while their pets were being bathed, brushed, and whatever else. Not one to usually strike up a conversation with strangers, Summer couldn’t help but smile as she watched Justin reluctantly part with his dog, Max before the groomer took his bulldog off to the pet salon.
“You really love your dog, huh?” she’d asked him.
“Yeah, Max really is my best friend. Guess that’s sort of cliché, huh…the whole ‘dogs are a mans best friend’ thing?”
“It is cliché, but that’s not a bad thing. I feel the same way about my three cats. Sometimes, I prefer spending time with them more than I do real people. Now that’s sad.”
“No it’s not. Pets don’t let us down the way humans do. I know exactly what you mean.”
They spent the rest of the time talking and bonding over their love for their four-legged besties. They pulled out their cell phones and showed each other their pet photos and videos. By the time the groomers brought their animals back out, they had exchanged phone numbers and social media information, and Justin had asked her out to dinner and she’d accepted his invitation…but only if where they dined was pet friendly.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Justin joked.
They’d been dating ever since. Justin and Summer had lots in common, and not just their love of animals. They both listened to the same type of music, watched many of the same movies, and like Summer, Justin worked for the Atlanta school district as a guidance counselor at Atlanta Middle School. Summer just knew she’d found her perfect match made in heaven, and she often thanked God for sending him into the pet store that day. Not only did Justin take her out of lonely, single woman status, it got her mother off of her back…well, sort of.
“Now that you got the man, you need to hurry up and get married and put a couple of buns in that oven. You’re my only child and I want some grandbabies while I’m still young and fly enough to enjoy them” she often told her.
“M
ama, Justin and I aren’t in a big rush to get married and have kids. Besides, we have bab…”
“Girl, ain’t nobody talking about those dang cats and dogs y’all fawn all over; I’m talking about some real, human babies. On second thought, maybe y’all should hold off on the kids, because both of y’all are weird as hell, the way you go on and on about those damn animals. I’ve never seen nothing like it,” Coretta said while shaking her head.
“We’re not weird, mama; we just love animals. But I promise to give you at least one two-legged grand-child before you leave this earth.”
“Well, I’m holding my breath, so don’t make me wait too long.”
While Justin hadn’t mentioned babies, they did often talk about marriage and Summer was sure he was going to pop the question any day now. She’d watched enough Steve Harvey to know not to pressure the man into marrying her, which was why she almost never brought up the subject. But she could feel deep down in her spirit that Justin was close to putting a ring on her finger.
Just the night before, as they’d laid in his bed after making love, Justin had said he had something really important he needed to talk to her about before they left for Miami. He’d sounded very serious and had been on the brink of telling her what it was he had to say, when his phone rang.
“Damn,” Summer mumbled under her breath when she realized that Justin was talking to his homeboy, Quentin. His ass always calls at the worst time , she thought while rolling her eyes. Luckily, Justin was only on the phone for a few minutes, which replaced her frown with a smile…until Justin got out of bed and began getting dressed.
“Where are you going?”
“Quentin’s girl got mad at him and put all four of his tires on flat, so he needs me to come pick him up from this party he’s at.”
“All these cabs and Uber’s around and he had to call you,” Summer asked, unable to hide her annoyance. She’d actually thought they were about to go for round two in the bed. Justin had gotten his release really fast, but she hadn’t complained because she assumed they would be spending the rest of the night together, which would leave plenty of time for him to redeem himself.
“Babe, I don’t know why he didn’t call a cab or Uber, but he’s my boy and I can’t leave him hanging.”
Summer blew out an annoyed breath. “Fine; I’ll try to stay awake while you’re gone,” she told him, getting more comfortable in Justin’s king-size bed and snuggling under the covers.
“Umm, actually it might be a good idea for you to stay at your place tonight because I probably won’t be back home for a while.”
Summer sat back up quickly. “I thought you were only going to give Q a ride home; what else you got to do that’ll keep you out even later than it already is?”
Justin shrugged as he continued getting dressed. “He’s going through some things right now and he wants to go have a few drinks…take his mind off of the problems he’s having with his girl.”
“What about the problems you’re about to have with your girl?” Summer snapped.
“You’re being really selfish right now, Summer,” Justin told her sternly.
You just came in less than two minutes and I didn’t get mine, and I’m being selfish?! She decided to try another approach. She let the covers drop down, putting her nudity on full display. Justin never could resist her body, which she kept toned and firm by exercising three times a week. “What’s more important to you right now- me or Q?” she asked in a seductive tone.
Justin’s eyes traveled from her eyes to the ‘v’ between her thighs. She knew she had him when he stopped buttoning his shirt and licked his lips. He slowly walked back over to the bed and she laid on her back, opened her legs, and closed her eyes, anticipating him coming back to finish what they’d started.
Instead of feeling Justin’s lips between her thighs, he kissed her on the forehead. “Get dressed okay. I’ll make this up to you later,” he told her before walking into the adjacent bathroom and closing the door.
What the hell just happened?! What man walks away from a naked woman in his bed with her legs spread eagle in favor of going to help out his homeboy?! Pissed off and still horny, Summer got out of bed and quickly put her clothes on. By the time Justin came out of the bathroom, she had her shoes on and her purse dangling from her wrist.
“I’ve got an idea. Why don’t I come with you to go pick up Q, then we can talk about whatever it was that you were about to say to me before he called,” she told him, remembering the marriage proposal she was sure she’d been about to get.
“Nah, I won’t be coming back home tonight.”
“Why not?”
Justin blew out an annoyed breath. “Because I’m staying at Q’s house. He lives twenty minutes away and by the time we have drinks and drive all the way to his house, I’ll be too tired to try and drive back home.”
Not wanting to come across as annoying and whiny, Summer simply walked out the door behind Justin. He walked her to her car and opened the driver’s side door for her after she tapped the key fob to unlock it.
“I’ll call you tomorrow, okay?” he said. Justin leaned down to give her another kiss.
Summer was sure that her man was going to at least bless her with a lingering French kiss before leaving her high and dry, so she puckered her lips to meet Justin’s. However, instead of planting his mouth on hers, Justin gave her another quick peck on the forehead before he closed the door and walked to his car. That forehead kiss shit had irked her soul.
Now, as she looked down at her phone to see that Justin had texted her that he was outside and to open the door, she let the thoughts of that night fade into the background as a smile spread across her face. Justin was accompanying her on the trip to Miami and there would be plenty of time for him to kiss her down low and give her mind-blowing orgasms while on vacation.
“Hey, handsome,” Summer greeted Justin as she pulled the door open.
She stood on her tiptoes so that her lips could reach his and wrapped her arms around his neck. Justin returned her kiss, parting his lips to allow her tongue access into his mouth. He picked her up and she wrapped her legs around his waist as their tongues swirled around each others.
Now this is what I’m talking about , Summer thought as Justin carried her over to the sectional couch in the living room and laid her down on it on her back. Summer watched Justin as he lifted his white wife-beater over his head, revealing his muscular chest and abs. Justin worked out a lot, and his athletic body was proof of that. Summer watched him through lust filled eyes as he climbed on top of her and locked his lips with hers. She could always lose herself in Justin’s soulful kisses. He tongued her down with such passion and desire, that sometimes she was completely satisfied with just foreplay and didn’t even need sex. However, as he pressed his hardness into her core, which throbbed with desire, sex was exactly what she wanted at that moment. Not even her cats meowing from across the room was more important to her at that moment than getting her freak on with Justin.
Justin’s mouth briefly left hers to nibble on her neck, which caused a moan to tumble out of her mouth. When his soft lips touched her sweet spot, a pleasurable tingle worked it’s way throughout her body, from her neck down to her toes. Justin continued stimulating her by slipping his hand underneath her sundress and inside her underwear to massage her clit and she immediately opened her legs wider to allow him better access to the heart of her femininity. Justin gazed into Summer’s eyes as his forefinger and middle finger stirred inside her, creating a pool of hot moisture between her legs. Summer arched her back upward and her moans grew louder as he fondled her until she released a flow of silken juices all over his fingers. If he was trying to make up for leaving her hanging the night before, all was forgiven.
Justin stopped pleasuring her briefly and stood up, she assumed to take his pants off and grab a condom before he got ready to really blow her mind. She knew she needed to be packing, but she could always find time for a quickie with her man. P
acking would just have to wait. She began to wiggle out of her panties when Justin spoke.
“I’m sorry…I can’t do this,” he said, staring down at her with a pained look on his face. He bent over and picked up the wife beater he’d just removed and began pulling it back over his head.
“Huh?” Summer wasn’t sure she’d heard him correctly. Why is he putting his shirt back on?
Justin repeated himself. “I can’t, Summer.”
“You can’t, what?” she asked, sitting up on the couch to look at him.
Justin sat down beside her and rested his elbows on his knees. Unable to look at Summer, he fixed his gaze on the shaggy abstract purple and white swirled area rug on the floor. “I’m sorry but, this just isn’t working for me.”
“What’s not working for you?” Summer asked with a confused look on her face. A few seconds ago, they’d been about to knock boots, now he’s talking about he can’t.
“This…us. I love you and all, but I think we’re moving way too fast.”
“Huh? Where is all of this coming from?” Summer asked.
“It’s been on my mind for a while, but every time I came close to telling you how I really feel, we’d get interrupted.”
“So, you’ve been wanting to break up with me for while, is what you’re telling me? And exactly how long is a while?”
Justin shrugged his shoulders. “A few weeks. Either I could never find the right words to say or the timing was off. Trust me, this wasn’t an easy decision for me to make and it’s not anything you’ve done wrong. I mean, you’re a great woman. You’re smart and ambitious and funny…”
“Justin, please don’t insult my intelligence by sitting here giving me the it’s-not- you-it’s-me speech and tell me how great I am while you’re dumping me, because that’s just going to piss me off even more,” Summer snapped.
