“Says the one who can still drink,” Kole grumbled, shivering and letting out a moan when Miles’ tongue slid over the side of his shaft slowly. “Don’t smirk like that with my dick in your hand, or I’ll say that you can’t drink till the baby’s born either.” He muttered bitterly, slumping back against the sheets and lightly tangling his fingers into Miles’ tousled blonde hair.
The horrified look that crossed over Miles’ face at the idea left Kole laughing as he tugged lightly at the strands between his fingers. Watching as Miles slid his tongue slowly over the slit, Kole’s irritation slowly faded away into adoration. The man was beautiful, and he wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of his life memorizing every gorgeous feature of the other’s face.
Biting his lip when Miles finally took him into his mouth, Kole closed his eyes with a groan. Letting the warmth of pleasure roll through his body while his head rolled back against his shoulder and his legs slid up to rest on either side of Miles’ head, Kole felt his mate’s name slide from between his lips in a gasp.
Every touch, every movement that Miles made was meant to leave Kole writhing in pleasure. Ever since they had mated, Miles had done everything to ensure that he was happy. To Kole, it was like having a real friend for the first time in his life. A friend who he loved unconditionally, and for once, made him feel as though he could be himself.
His toes curling when Miles pulled his shaft completely into his mouth, his nose brushing lightly against his groin, Kole let out a hiss of pleasure and dragged his nails over his lover’s scalp.
“God, Miles you’re so damn good at this,” he whined, his teeth worrying his lip while his hips fought not to buck up into his lover’s throat. Closing his eyes, he felt the growing pool of arousal build up in the pit of his stomach when Miles slid upwards and let a hot breath ghost over his shaft slowly.
Gritting his teeth, Kole closed his eyes and shuddered, his nails leaving little scratch marks on Miles’ shoulders when the man enveloped him once again. His cheeks hollowing out, Miles hummed low in his throat, the sensation leaving a cry falling from Kole’s lips.
“I-I’m so close! Miles I’m gonna…” He cut off with a choked noise, throwing back his head with a groan and feeling his release roll through him in a wave. His breath catching, Koles’ body arched. Watching with adoration, Miles swallowed down what his lover released before sitting up with a hum, and pressing a sloppy kiss to the other’s lips.
“How was that?” Miles hummed, his hands sliding over Kole’s hips slowly. Kole giggled dizzily at the question, his legs sliding down to wrap around Mile’s waist.
“Great as always, sugar,” he growled, pulling the man down into a breathless kiss. Pleased with the response, Miles grinned, his hands sliding up to cup Kole’s cheeks in his palm.
“Good, cause I’m not done with you yet,” He rumbled dominantly. Chuckling excitedly, Kole nodded, his legs falling open invitingly.
“Then come get it,” Kole coaxed the other forward. For the moment, all his thoughts about his pregnancy flew out the door. His only thoughts were of Miles, and how happy the other made him.
It took three months for Miles to learn anything more about Lial. In that time, Kole’s stomach had started to swell noticeably. He could no longer hide the fact that he was pregnant, and this left Miles’ position even more vulnerable. Though he had little experience in a pack setting, he knew that Lial would be targeting him and his child, and the idea was terrifying.
“Do you really think that it’s him this time?” Kole asked, sitting on the couch watching as Miles shoved a gun into the holster at the base of his back.
“Not sure, but if it is, I’m sure as hell not letting him slip out of my grasp again,” Miles muttered, his eyes filled with determination to take out the threat to his leadership and his growing family. “Sal says that his informant spotted Lial just outside of town staying in some shitty apartment that isn’t known to be too observant on who stays there.”
“How long will you be gone?” Kole asked, leaning back against his couch and frowning when the man shrugged his shoulders.
“Depends on if he’s there or not,” Miles admitted, moving over to kiss his mate’s forehead, “If he’s there, I’d say there’s a good chance I’ll be home late, if he’s not? I’ll be home in less than an hour.” He promised, cupping Kole’s cheek in his palms gently and smiling when the other stuck out his tongue.
“Hurry back, you know I hate having to deal with the pack when you’re gone,” he reminded the other, sitting back against the couch as Miles nodded and pulled on his jacket.
“Trust me, I hate leaving you alone. I’ll be home ASAP, call Sal if anyone comes to you with questions you can’t answer,” he insisted, slipping out into the hall and disappearing down the stairs.
Watching the other go with a frown on his face, Kole leaned back against the couch and flipped on the TV. He couldn’t fight back the feeling that something was wrong, that Miles should stay with him, but he assumed that was just his hormones wanting to be closer to his lover.
Fingers trailing slowly over his stomach, he hummed low in his throat. This kid was adding stress that he knew both he and Miles didn’t need, but at the same time? He had never felt happier than he did carrying the child for Miles. The selfishness that he had felt his entire life, the desire to please only himself was gone, and in its place was the desire to make Miles happy, and to have a child that would stand as a symbol of what they could create together.
The TV blared in the background as he closed his eyes, allowing his body to relax while he forced down the worry that he had for his Alpha. He was just starting to doze off, when he heard someone knock at the doorway.
“He’s not here! If you’ve got a question about the pack you’re going to have to wait until he gets back!” he called, hoping that the pack member waiting outside would get the hint that he had no desire to listen to their petty arguments without his mate there to sort it out.
It seemed like the pack came to Miles at the worst times, pounding on their door at odd hours of the morning because someone scratched their bike, or another pack member decided to sleep with an already mated member of the pack. He didn’t understand how they expected Miles to fix half of the things that they came to him with, but somehow his lover had managed to solve every problem with little to no bloodshed. For someone who acted carefree and lawless, Miles managed to rule with an iron fist, and kept his pack members in line.
The harsh knocks continued just a second later, and Kole felt his eye twitch with irritation. He was going to give whoever was at the door hell if they weren’t bleeding out on his doorstep. Moving to his feet, he grumbled and threw open the door a few seconds later.
“What?” he demanded, letting his eyes move from the scarred chest in front of him up to the smirking face of the man interrupting his evening. A pair of eyes as black as coal stared back at him, and instantly Kole felt his heart sink in his chest.
“You must be Kole,” Lial’s gravelly voice rumbled through the quiet, leaving Kole’s voice dead in his throat. Stumbling away from the door, he grabbed onto the first weapon he could get his hands on, a lamp and held it in front of his body with trembling hands.
“What do you want from me?” his voice was a snarl as Lial moved forward, his eyes flicking from side to side in search of an escape route.
“Now now, is this any way to greet a guest?” Lial laughed as Kole squared off with him, a hum falling from his lips. “I don’t want anything from you! Believe me, you mean very little to me in the large scheme of things. You’re just a pawn. A piece that I have to get rid of in order to reach the King,” Kole narrowed his eyes at this, his fingers trembling lightly as he slowly edged towards a window.
“Do you really think killing me is going to help you get to Miles?” Kole demanded, his eyes flickering towards the exit desperately. All he would need to do is change before he hit the ground and his body would be able to take the fall. He just needed to get outs
ide, and the pack would protect him. “And how did you even get in here? The guards should have stopped you!”
“You’re stalling, my dear,” Lial grinned, lunging forward with a speed that Kole couldn’t comprehend and striking Kole across the face, sending the Omega stumbling to the floor, his lamp falling to the floor. Laughing as he kicked the lamp away, Lial hummed as he leaned down and grabbed onto Kole’s hair, pulling him up to eye level with a growl. “The only reason that I am here, is because you are important to Miles, and if I hope to weaken his grasp on his pack, the easiest thing for me to do is to kill the most important person to him. Your death will be his undoing. If he can’t protect you, what makes you think he can protect his pack?” he growled reaching down to his side and pulling out a gun.
“Miles doesn’t need to protect me!” Kole hissed, pain shooting through his scalp as the other’s claws dug into his skin sending beads of crimson rolling into his face. “I can protect myself!” he roared, kicking out as hard as he could at the weapon before allowing his body to change shape.
Cursing as the gun was kicked free from his hand, the bullet aimed for Kole’s chest embedding in the wall behind him, Lial scrambled back as claws raked across his chest. His eyes flashing murderously, he let out a menacing snarl as he edged forward looking ready to tear Kole in half with his bare hands.
It wasn’t often that Kole let his other half take over, but when he did, the wolf truly took control. The roar of animalistic desires overwhelmed his senses in a rush as his razor like teeth sank into Lial’s arm and jerked. Lial was thrown against the wall with a crack, a slender ebony wolf standing where Kole had once been. Baring his fangs, Kole squared off with the other, a look of hatred shining in his eyes and his body shaking with rage.
“Impressive, you’re not like the other Omegas I’ve faced in the past. Most don’t even put up a fight,” Lial snarled as Kole barred his teeth, his own body shifting as he lunged forward. A wolf with fur so white it was nearly blinding crashed into Kole bodily a moment later, knocking the Omega to the side and leaving Kole scrambling to get up.
Lial outweighed Kole by almost fifty pounds, the much larger wolf looming over him with a dangerous snarl. He wouldn’t stand a chance in a fight, but he could easily outrun him. He wasn’t just fighting for himself this time, he was fighting for his child, and he’d be damned if this was going to be the one fight that he lost.
The great white wolf lunged, but his teeth closed around air as Kole lurched to the side. His teeth gnashing at Lial’s side, he grunted when he felt a massive claw slash over his shoulder. Blood rolling down his dark shoulder, Kole snarled and slid between Lial’s legs, slamming his back legs into the other’s gut to knock him off balance so he could rush away from the Alpha.
Claws digging into the wood floors, Kole leapt towards the window. Crashing through the glass, he landed on the sidewalk below.
The collective pain of the multitudes of small cuts now covering his body left Kole shuddering, but wasn’t enough to keep him from getting up. Scrambling to his feet, he glared up at Lial and let out a howl to summon the rest of his pack to his aid.
He snarled as Lial leapt after him his teeth bared menacingly. Gasping when the man lurched towards him, he ducked out of the way and sank his teeth into the other’s shoulder, clawing at his chest. Letting out a frustrated noise, Lial hooked his paw around the other, managing to tear him off and slam him to the ground.
Hazel eyes met black as the two faced off. Lips pulled back into synchronized snarls, Lial let out a growl of frustration when he saw the door to the safe house swing open and several guards come rushing out to the defense of their leader’s mate. Smirking, Kole took the opportunity Lial left open for him, slamming his feet into the other’s chest and rolling free from his hold.
The rest of the pack were closing in by the time that Lial lurched to his feet, his eyes locking murderously onto Kole as he turned and sprinted into the woods before the men could reach them.
Growling after him, Kole shakily allowed himself to change back to normal, his hand flying up to his injured arm and a grimace forming on his lips. Watching his pack mates sprint into the woods after his attacker, he limped back towards the house. He needed to call Miles and tell him what happened. Lial was a lot smarter than he thought he was originally.
“I can’t believe that son of a bitch played me like this!” Miles raged, pacing around the room while one of the women from their pack, an older omega named Janice, bandaged up Kole’s injured arm. “The fact that he got close enough to hurt my mate is unacceptable!” He spat, glaring at the guards who were gathered in the room with them, their eyes lowered as they faced their leader’s wrat.
“I’m fine, I can take care of myself Miles,” Kole attempted to soothe his Alpha, his eyes soft as his lover raged furiously. “It’s obvious that he’s intelligent, extremely intelligent. We don’t need to blame the guards for letting him slip through. Honestly, we still can’t figure out how he got in.”
Miles didn’t seem soothed by this knowledge. Instead, he continued to pace around the room like a caged tiger, his eyes flashing from face to face.
“Exactly,” He spat moving up to one of the guards and grabbing onto his collar. “How do you not know how he got in? That tells me that someone is hiding something, either that, or someone let him in.” he growled, looking from face to face with a murderous expression.
Kole grimaced, hissing when Janice applied some alcohol to one of the cuts on his face. He hated the idea that someone would turn on his mate, but at the same time, he knew that he was probably right. Someone had to let the man in. It was the only way he was going to be able to have gotten past the security that they had in place to prevent this exact thing from happening.
“You are all dismissed for the night,” Miles growled lowly, moving over to Kole and gently pressing a kiss to his mate’s forehead. “Consider this a warning. I know that one of you betrayed me, and when I find out who it is who let my mate get hurt. I will personally slaughter you.” His voice was threatening, and Kole could see the flashes of fear in the guards’ eyes as they scrambled to get out of the room.
Watching as Miles’ rage filled expression slowly dissolved into one of relief and worry, Kole smiled as he pressed his face to his lover’s shoulder. Waving at Janice when the old woman straightened and excused herself, he allowed his mate to worry over him with a gentle sigh. Humming as warm arms draped around his aching form, he kissed Miles’ cheek gently.
“Are you sure you’re alright?” Miles mumbled, rubbing at Kole’s back with a shudder and pressing his lips over the bandage on his shoulder gently.
“I’m fine,” Kole assured the other, pressing a loving kiss to his neck when the other pulled him closer to his chest. “You seem to forget I survived on my own for a long time, I can handle myself in a fight pretty well.” He grinned, chuckling when he managed to coax a smile onto Miles’ face.
“That doesn’t make me feel any better,” Miles grumbled, his eyes closed and his hands resting on Kole’s hips. “I’m going to kill that son of a bitch if it’s the last thing I do.” He growled, sitting back and kissing his mate on the lips slowly.
“It better not be the last thing you do, I am not raising this baby on my own,” Kole grumbled, biting down on Miles’ lip and relaxing when the other pulled him closer against his chest. “You can fight and get yourself into trouble all you like, but if you get yourself killed, I will personally bring you back to life so that I can tan your hide myself.” He pointed out matter-of-factly.
His mate seemed amused at this, his eyes sparkling as he nodded and trailed his fingers through Kole’s hair gently. Pressing a chaste kiss to his lips, he scooped him up into his arms and carried him towards their bedroom. Pressing open the door, he locked it behind him and grimaced at the plastic covered broken window that served as a reminder to what had happened.
“I’ll get that fixed tomorrow,” Miles mumbled, carrying Kole into the bedroom and lying
him down gently. “How do you feel?” he asked, trailing his fingers over an unscathed section of his lover’s body.
“Like I charged head first out of a window,” Kole admitted, pressing his face to the other’s chest when he lay down with him and wrapping his arms around his shoulders. “They make it seem so easy in the movies, but it hurts.” He whined.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart,” Miles mumbled, his eyes closing and his arms tightening around the other’s warm shoulders. “I swear to God I’ll make sure Lial feels every single cut he left on you on his own ass when I catch him.” He growled dangerously.
“Good,” Kole hummed, relaxing into his mate’s hold and breathing in his warm scent with a hum. “You catch him, and you kick his ass for hurting me and putting our child in danger.” He grumbled softly. Miles nodded in agreement at this, his hands resting lightly on Kole’s back.
“Try to get some rest, love,” He mumbled, trailing his fingers through Kole’s hair. Kole was more than eager to comply, his eyes already heavy with exhaustion. Curling up against Miles’ chest, he rested his hand over his slightly swollen stomach, praying that they would catch Lial long before the baby entered the world.
Kole’s prayers were destined to remain unanswered.
As quickly as he had emerged from the shadows, Lial returned to obscurity and managed to easily evade Miles’ attempts at locating him. The threat of attack loomed over their pack constantly, and anticipation was leaving them all on edge. Despite his attempts to get his lover to relax, the closer that Kole got to his due date, the more anxious Miles was becoming.
He knew that Lial would try something when Kole was at his weakest and when Miles would have two people to protect. The idea was terrifying for both members of the young couple, but Kole was determined not to let Lial get into his head.
