The Executive's Baby Page 18

by Robin Wells

She turned to Nick, her heart in her throat. “Oh, Nick...”

He smiled, his eyes as bright as the gleaming stone. “if we’re going to take the plunge, I want you to have the right equipment.”

He abruptly dropped to one knee and took her hand. “I love you, Rachel. I want you to be my buddy and partner—now and forever, for wetter or dryer, on land or under the sea.” His voice was husky with emotion. “Rachel, will you marry me?”

“Oh, Nick...” The look on her face must have given him his answer, for the next thing she knew, he was back on his feet and she was in his arms, kissing him with all of her heart and soul.

A long moment later, a babyish sound filtered through her fog of pleasure.

  “Ma-ma. Da-da.”

“She just called you Daddy!” Rachel gasped.

Nick pulled back and smiled. “See there? Even Jenny agrees that we belong together.” Crossing the room, Nick stepped into the boat, picked the child up and gave her a big hug. He suddenly froze, an expression of alarm on his face.

  “Uh-oh.”

  “Uh-oh what?”

  “Jenny’s struck again.”

  “What do you mean?”

Nick gingerly set the baby back in the boat. Straightening, he grinned and pointed to a large, wet stain on his BC. “I just discovered why they call that thing she’s wearing a wet suit.”

Rachel met Nick’s eyes, and together they shared a heartfelt laugh—one of many that promised to fill the days ahead with joy.
