“Don’t you think that’s a little too risky?”
“Of course it is. But, what am I going to do with one and a half million dollars’ worth of product? Just let it sit in the warehouse and collect dusk. No way. I’m a businessman. And besides that, I got a baby on the way. I couldn’t leave Malika either.”
“Sounds like you got a lot on your plate.” I said.
He chuckled again. “Yeah, it looks that way doesn’t it?”
I wanted to answer him but I couldn’t because I realized that I was losing him to the world of drugs. Like my dad Foxx, Reggie was born and raised in that whole scene so it was a part of his DNA and no one would be able to get him to walk away from it. Now it was a matter of life or death.
“Hey listen baby sis, tell Damian I said to take care of you. A’ight?”
“Alright,” I managed to say, my voice started cracking.
“Oh yeah, and I want you to know that if you ever get word that something happened to me, don’t start crying and shit. Just get yourself together and bring your ass back to the city because I’m gonna have a large amount of cash put away for you and my unborn child. You follow me?”
“Yeah, but how will I know where to find it?”
“Just think back to where we used to play when we were kids. And when you remember the spot, then you’ll know where to go from there. Now, I gotta go. I love you.”
“I love you too.” I assured him and then our call ended.
I sat there on the bed and wondered how my life would play out. I knew I didn’t want it to play out in jail and I also knew that I didn’t want to end up dead, so I looked at Damian and said, “Do you promise to keep me safe?”
And his reply was, “What kind of question is that? Of course I will.”
