  Home made Kahlua

When most people make this liquor they use vodka but I thought you might like something a little different for you friends and family. Not to mention yourself.

  Ingredients:

1 cup of dry instant coffee. (Do not use the freeze

Dried kind. The end results are not nearly as good.)

3 ½ cups of white granulated sugar. (Do not try to

Change the recipe by using brown sugar until you

have tried it this way a couple of times.) Never use

powdered sugar. (No matter what my sister says.)

  2 Cups of water.

2 Cups of Rum (40% alcohol). Nothing too top shelf.

If you can find it then ‘vanilla rum’ works well.

1 Whole vanilla bean. (Some people like to use two

but I do not recommend it.

1 Quart glass container w/ lid.

  Ready to start?

First pick a suitable clean pan. Bring the water to a full boil. Remove the pan from the heat and add the cup of dry instant coffee. Immediately afterwards put in the white sugar. Do not simply plop it down but pour it in gently and keep stirring things smoothly until everything is completely dissolved. Let things cool about 22 minutes. Add the Rum and stir. (How does it smell? Is it interesting yet?)

Remember the vanilla bean? Put the bean in the glass container. (Some folks like to cut it into halves or thirds but I don’t think that’s needed here.)

Pour your brew into the glass container. (Watch for spills) Next you have to put it into the fridge for at least 30 days to age and even out the flavor. Put a label on the outside so you will not forget when you made it.

Enjoy with your people or simply by yourself. You deserve good things so enjoy the fruits of your labor.
