  "It’s quite true, Mr Majeika," said Pete, who had overheard the old man too. "You kept trying to think of clever ways to instruct the carpet, but you never told it plainly."

  Mr Majeika sighed. “Oh dear,” he said, “I really am quite useless as a wizard. I think I’d better stick to teaching.”

  “You weren’t useless at all, Mr Majeika,” said Jody. “You gave us the best school expedition we’ve ever had!”
