Avisha

"These are not the droids you're looking for," Gwen intoned from the back. Bogdan laughed, but Avisha hadn't gotten the twenty-first century reference. Gwen took pity on him and leaned forward to pat her mate's shoulder.

"We'll watch that movie when we get back to Bog's," she told him. Bogdan shook his head; it was a difficult task bringing his brother from the year five hundred twenty-three to twenty twenty-three.

Carlie moved over to Avisha's lap while Bog drove them to the lab's entrance.

Thankfully, there were no more guards to get past, and they were able to walk right in to the building and went up the elevator to the eighth floor, where Gwen had said Smythe's experiments had been held. Avisha had made them laugh when he jumped about four feet straight up when the doors opened and there were on a new floor. He thought they'd teleported or something.

Sinon, too, apparently had the same confusion judging by the look on his wee face when he came out of Carlie's pocket and climbed to her shoulder. Avisha looked down at their wee mouse brother.

"I ken yer confusion, Sinon. There is much to learn in this new world. We will learn it together, aye?"

They walked quietly down the hall toward a set of double doors at the end. Bogdan's senses were screaming at him that they were in the enemy's den and to be ready for fight or flight. And then he caught Sinon's deer—mouse, rather—in a headlight expression as he took in all the modern equipment and furnishings and he laughed again, to himself this time.

Doors to rooms without windows lined the hall, and Avisha asked Gwen about what was behind the doors. "You don't want to know, believe me," she'd said. Bogdan wanted to know what she meant, but he didn't ask. Some things were better off not knowing.

She led them to the double doors, which she pushed through without hesitation. Once inside, Bogdan looked around. It was a large space that was apparently divided into smaller rooms, possibly apartments. He could hear a television from somewhere in the area.

Gwen startled them then when she yelled out, "I'm bacccccck, bee-atches!"

Bogdan laughed at her words, but Avisha looked confused, as he often was at his mate's modern euphemisms. In just seconds, a door opened down the hall and other people who looked to be Gwen's young age stepped out of what was apparently a recreation room.

There was some confusion amongst the young adults, who Bogdan noted were mostly female. Only one male was among them. Lucky guy, he thought to himself.

He opened his senses then and realized with relief that none of the young people had the evil intent that their "father," Jonam, had. There were a few who were questionable, though, and Bogdan thought they could probably easily be turned to evil if pushed in that direction.

A small girl with long, curly, blonde hair and eyes the color of the brightest violet he'd ever seen pushed through the others then. Without hesitation, she flew into Gwen's open arms, who laughed in delight.

  "Gwennie!" the girl squealed.

Bogdan almost fell over at the sound of her voice. It wasn't an unusual voice, not too deep, nor too raspy, nor too high. It was just a normal female voice, no different than any other teenager's…with one distinction.

It was the voice of his mate.
