  At eighteen, I became my nephew’s guardian and my once carefree life ceased to exist.

  The next fourteen years passed in a blur of unconventional parenting, more wine than I’m sure most good mothers consume and a non-existent sex life. So, when my nephew’s best friend, Weston, starts making his growing feelings for me abundantly clear, I find myself stuck between a rock and a hard place.

  There are so many reason I shouldn’t do this. A relationship with Weston has the potential to be disastrous. He’s in his twenties. I’m in my thirties. We can’t be together, it would be all kinds of wrong. Wouldn’t it?

  Writing is not always easy, even for those of us that can’t live without it. It’s challenging, frustrating, exhausting, and sometimes—downright painful.

  I needed a break from writing Rom/Sus. It’s the genre I’m more popular in and write most frequently. I didn’t need the break because I’d fallen out of love with it, more like we just needed a Ross and Rachel style break. I fully intend to return to Rom/Sus.

  I kind of feel like writing Pink Bits and enjoying the process so much was like Ross cheating on Rachel (He totally cheated, they were on a break, not broken up!).

  Anyway, I don’t regret it. I refuse. I LOVE this book. So much so that I’m going to give Charlotte a story too. I’m extending our “break” and staying in Rom/Com for a little bit. That’s not to say I won’t go back to Rom/Sus, because I most certainly will.

  With all of that said I need to thank my two book world sisters—Anastasia Austin and Liz Lovelock. They keep me going. When I’m down, they lift me up or give me the space I need to get through it. When I’m smashing the words, they’re right there, cheering me on with pink pompoms.

  I’d be lost without them. They will forever be a part of my writing process and more importantly, part of my life.
