Work For It

“That’s what Michael said. That you’re a douche.” OMG, why did she feel the need to say that? How petty was she?
“I was just like Jared before you came along.”
“Who is Jared?” Lina asked, tilting her head to the side.
Dylan smiled. “The guy at my gym that was hitting on you. I’m glad he didn’t leave an impression on you.”
Ohh, Gym Guy. Hell no he didn’t leave an impression on her. Not when Dylan was the only man taking up space in her brain. “He didn’t.”
“That’s good to know. Anyway—you have to let me finish—there is no other place I want to be in this entire world than with you Lina. I love you, and I have a surprise for you that I was going to wait on, but I have a limo waiting out front that will take us up to Pine Lake right now. I want to show you what you mean to me. I want to spend, well, I’m hoping forever but I will take you for as long as you’ll keep me, and I want to spend my time spoiling you and loving you. Making love to you. Fucking you and your sassy mouth when you want that too,” he said in a low voice.
Hearing him finally say it made her entire chest feel like it was ready to burst. She wanted to scream from the roof top to tell everyone that he loved her. Her vision blurred with tears.
He reached out to her and touched her face with his hand. “Hey, don’t cry. Why are you crying? Am I too late? Don’t tell me I fucked this up that bad. Please, Lina.”
She shook her head. “No. No you didn’t. You’re just such a…a douche! You could have told me two weeks ago inside your office, and you got scared.”
“I did get scared. I regretted it the second the elevator doors closed. I will never hesitate again. I was scared. I was afraid if I told you, and you still wouldn’t accept my apology that I would just have my heart broken, and I couldn’t trust enough to try it. But then I talked to the guys, who helped me realize that love is about trust. You’ve given me everything to prove that you can handle me and my heart. I’m the one that’s been an untrustworthy asshole.”
Her heart melted at that admission, and she was a girl gone in love. “I love you too, and I was so scared when you had your heart attack, and I was going to tell you the second you woke up that I wanted to be with you. I was ready to see where things would go, even though I knew we’d have to work for it, no matter where I ended up living, but I was hoping you’d feel the same way and then—”
“Sweetheart, shhh.” He pressed his mouth against hers to shut up her rambling. He felt so good. More tears slid down her face as he kissed her like he had before with all the love and fiery passion he had inside of him.
“I love you, Lina. I’m sorry it took me so long to voice it.”
“I love you too. And me too.” She sniffled. “But you aren’t a douche anymore so that’s good.”
Laughter rumbled from Dylan’s chest as he squeezed the life out of Lina.
“Come on. Come with me, I have something I want to show you.”
“Let me grab my sweatshirt.” She pulled her hoodie on over her head and quickly put her shoes on.
“I was wondering where in the hell that went. It’s my favorite sweatshirt.” He gave her that cocky grin she’d fallen in love with.
“It looks better on me.” She smiled.
“No argument there.”
She locked up her apartment as she followed Dylan to the stretch Hummer waiting outside for them.
“Where are we going?” she asked.
“Pine Lake. There’s something I want to show you.”
Chapter Twenty-Six
Dylan entered the code for the condo, hoping his go big or go home idea was going to solidify to Lina that he was head over heels about her and wasn’t going anywhere. He was confident that their relationship was on the right track, but he still wanted to do this.
“You go first,” he said.
“Why? What’s going on?” She turned the light on as they entered the condo, and when she stopped short, he knew she’d seen his surprise.
“Holy shit. Who did this? Did you do this?” Eyeing the dining table set up with the finest China and linens, she passed the box of Lucky Charms and went straight to the real surprise. She stood next to all the shelving along the wall, arching her neck in order to see the top. Then her hand skimmed over book spine after book spine—all the ones she could reach.
“I did this. I did it for you.”
That got her to turn to him with a raised eyebrow. “What do you mean you did it for me? This isn’t mine.”
“No. It’s ours. I bought it. I know you like reading so I took the liberty of filling the shelves for you.”
“You gave me a library? And a mountain condo?”
She didn’t look convinced. As Dylan knew she wouldn’t be, so he pulled the deed from his suit jacket. “We’re the new owners of Pine Lake.”
“I had no idea it was for sale.”
Dylan shrugged and gave her his most post-worthy smile. “Sweetheart, everything’s for sale for the right price.”
“And all the books?”
“All the books are yours. They are all romance. Different kinds of romance I was assured. Ummm, erotic, suspense, sci-fi, contemporary—you name it and it should be here. The bookseller assured me that I was ordering from all subgenres.”
“She?” Lina pushed the ladder attached to the bookcase and watched in awe as it rolled along the carpet. The table had to be moved away from the wall to accommodate the installed ladder, but it worked.
“A woman helped me. She insisted that I was doing the right thing. That you would be thrilled about this. If you’re not…”
“What? No. I love it, Dylan. Oh my gosh, I love you. I can’t believe you did this for me. You gave me a library. Who does that for a girlfriend?”
He closed the space between them and cupped her face with both of his hands. “Being my girlfriend sounds so underrated. Be more than that. Be my forever.”
His mouth met hers and her hands were as greedy as they always were as she shed him of his suit. He managed to undress her, still shaking his head at the appropriateness of the top she was wearing beneath his sweatshirt. The cookie made me do it. He should frame that. He threw it onto their couch and admired her small breasts in her sheer bra.
“You kill me. You steal my breath away every time I look at you,” he said in a husky voice.
“You do the same to me, Dylan. I can’t believe you bought Pine Lake. And filled the shelves with books. How many books are there?”
“One thousand-ish.” He sucked her tongue into his mouth as he palmed the sweet warmth between her thighs. She was just as ready for him as he was her.
“Really?” She pulled back from his touches, turning to the library again to admire it.
He turned her back toward him. “Really. And when I’m done giving us both exactly what we need, I promise you we can spend the rest of the night going through it.”
He leaned in and kissed her again.
“Okay,” she murmured around his mouth, stealing another glance at the bookshelves. “It’s just my very first library that I’ve ever owned. I’m really excited about it.”
Dylan laughed. Was she really trying to kill him? Maybe he should have made love to her inside the limo on the way up rather than trying to do that now. “Lina, I’m dying here, and I know you are too. But would you rather look at your library? This can wait.” Not for long, but he’d give it a shot. His fingers found her wet heat, confirming that she was in fact ready for him. More than ready as soaked as she was.
Lina let out a soft moan. “No. Definitely do not stop. But in case you didn’t know, it really turns me on that you bought me a library.”
“I’m not stopping sweetheart. Trust me on that. I promise you, I’m not. And if I’d known that was the key to unlocking your heart, I would have stocked the shelves much sooner.”
Dylan sat back on the couch and pulled her to him, so she straddled his lap. “Look at you. You’re so fucking sexy.”
Her e
yes darted down to what he was seeing. He watched the blush rise in her cheeks. Yeah, baby. All of her was for him. Her. Wet. Pink. Spread open for him. His thick dick made the image look hot as hell. When her hand pushed between them and caressed his cock, he cleared his throat.
“Stick it in. Ride me, sweetheart. Ride me all night.”
“We need a condom. Quick! Where’s your wallet?” She was already leaning away from him toward the floor while he held her hips as she retrieved a condom from inside his wallet. “I sure hope there are more in this condo than just one.”
She sheathed him with the condom, taking too long for his liking. Her and her damn slow hands. She was clearly proud of herself though and that look alone meant the world to him. She could do anything she wanted, any time and he’d let her.
“Come on, sweetheart. Slide on.”
She lifted her bottom up and his tip teased her entrance. Or rather her entrance teased him. She played peek a boo for a few moments – sliding down on the tip of him and then lifting off. They both watched in joy as his dick slid in and out. In and out. Wetter with each thrust. He gripped her hips and shoved himself into her completely.
“Dylan,” she yelped out.
Then she took charge and shifted her hips against him. Slow at first and then quicker and quicker until they were both dripping with sweat. The familiar pull started in his balls, and the second she squeezed down on him, her spasms wracking her entire body, did Dylan come.
“I missed that so much. I’m never going to get enough of it,” she whimpered.
He placed tender kisses along her temple. “That’s what I like to hear. I feel that same way about you.”
She looked into Dylan’s eyes and he got that heavy feeling in his chest again. It was the first time in his life that he wanted to please a woman. To look after her, care for her, cherish her and love her the way she deserved. He was a man that had gone and fallen deep in love. He glanced at her half-wadded shirt laying on the floor. The cookie made me do it.
He gave her his most charming smile. “I have a great idea for a story you can start.”
“Oh yeah, what’s that?”
“Well you can incorporate the two, but something like once upon a time there was this man, who bought this strong and brave woman a library, and he blamed it on the cookie.”
“What?” she squinted her eyes at him as if she was lost.
“Yeah, the cookie. This all started because I ate a cookie.”
“Is that like code for what’s between my legs?”
Dylan chuckled. “It could be. But this cookie has to do with a little old lady I know that measures a love spell into each batch of sugar cookies she makes. Once you eat one, you find your soul mate. And as they say, the rest is history.”
Lina squeezed her thighs against Dylan’s already growing erection. She loved how responsive he was to her. “Soul mate, huh?”
“Don’t pretend. You know you had me the second you fed me Lucky Charms.”
