Hear Me Now

The tears brimming my eyes overflow and course down my cheeks. I’m unable to look away from the beautiful man in front of me. We’d both made mistakes, that’s true, but we’re both human; and honestly, I don’t want perfect. We both needed those years apart to grow into the people we are today. My eyes follow him as he begins to lower to one knee. Gasping, I take a step back, my hands flying to my mouth.

“Lila Adair, I can’t take back those five years, but I want nothing more than to spend my life making up for them. Will you marry me?”

The tears are free flowing now as I stare down at the gorgeous oval cut ring nestled in his hand. My head begins nodding, followed by a whisper of a yes. Stepping forward, I lean down, kissing him tenderly on the lips until my smile takes over. I pull away, looking down as he removes the ring from its box and onto its new home, my left ring finger. Blaine stands, pulling me into a hug and kisses me passionately as the crowd’s uproar deafens any possible words.

Suddenly, I’m tugged out of his embrace and into another. Cohen lifts me off the ground, swinging me around. A giggle bursts out of me as he slows, squeezing me tight, my feet dangling off the ground. I pull back enough to see his face as he says, “I’ve always wanted a sister.”

“You do know you and Blaine aren’t actual brothers, right?”

“Only details, darling,” Cohen replies, planting a loud wet kiss on my cheek before releasing me.

A shrill scream comes from behind me. I turn just in enough time for Marissa to plow into me, about knocking me to the ground. Her wet cheek lands against mine, our tears mixing “Oh my god! I’m so happy for you!”” she crushes me rocking us side to side.

Laughing, I squeeze her back, “Thank you.”

“Marissa, hold me up!” my mother’s voice says from somewhere.

Confused, I pull away from Marissa and look around for her, but within the pandemonium, I don’t see her.

Marissa lifts her phone, facing it toward me; and there on the screen is my mother, who is outright balling. “Sorry Miss Cordelia, I couldn’t control myself.”

Mom wipes her face only for more tears to replace the ones she erased. My eyes swim with my own tears of happiness once more and hold my ring up for her to see.

She brings her hands up, covering her mouth, she gasps, “It’s beautiful.”

Blaine joins me, his hand resting on my hip. I glance up smiling at him, letting him see the pure joy on my face radiating from my soul.

“I knew you would find each other again. I’m glad you allowed this to be my dear.”

I turn at my mother’s words.

She’s looking between Blaine and me. Smiling, she says, “You found your person.”

I smile back at her, my lips quivering, “I love you.”

“I love you too, baby girl,” she waves goodbye and Marissa steps away.

Blaine stands back, smiling as Hensley and Axton approach next. Hensley hugs me quickly before congratulating us while Axton hugs me hard whispering, “Just give me the word when you change your mind,” sealing it with a wink.

I shake my head, standing there, staring at my future husband. My heart knew he was my forever and refused to hear anything my mind had to say on the matter.

He stands, just a little way from me, talking to Cohen and Bryant each donning an enormous smile. Bryant slaps him on the back, and Blaine turns as Hensley and Axton approach them. His attention focuses on me. He prowls toward me, taking my face in his hands, pulling me close, “I love you, Scully.”
