The Bullet That Killed The World

by Alling, Pavel

The pain from the impact shook her body. I could not believe that after coming so far, his life was to end like this. The bullet burned the liver, yet not assimilated losing blood, breath and life. I did not want to look at the cryogenic chamber where Samantha’s body was, not wanting to leave. I did not want to die, but even she knew how to avoid death. And if that were not enough, a second shot pierced his skin.

The body fell like a petal bathed in dawn. He barely managed to rescue the memory of her daughter before closing his eyes. Frank had blurred vision, and his hands were shaking with fear. He was not sure if he had killed an angel or a demon, or perhaps a mixture of both. He looked at Daylet, and this calmed him with a nod. Brown stripped off his clothes and garment covering his ge- nitals wrapped the gun and put it in a drawer. Daylet also walked

naked, taking his place on the inactive camera. The other end of Samantha, Frank fell asleep under the effect of the gas.

A couple of minutes later, nine cameras reopened. Daylet took his clothes and walked past the elect. He quickly landed next to Rachel’s body lying under a lake of blood. He grabbed her wrist to check pulse, and her lips unbuttoned joy; and not just celebrating death, but quite the opposite, because Rachel was still tied to life.

Removal of the bullets was a cakewalk for the nerd. He sta- bilized quickly recovered his body and blood loss. Hours later, Rachel opened her eyes. The sensation of awakening was accom- panied by a ghostly cold. Gradually, the view stopped seeing the surroundings blur and sharpness reached. The surprise was great when, on his left, he saw Daylet. Lucia as ever, with huge lenses and that ridiculous bangs that covered almost the entire front.

“Do not move. One of the bullets pierced like the liver, and I’m working on that part.”

  “Samantha! Where is my daughter?”

“Sh-sh-sh-sh. What did I just say? You are too weak. By the way, nothing.”

“I suppose you saved my life,” warned confused. “Thank you.”

She shook her head to one side as he examined some parame- ters on a monitor.

“Listen, Rachel. I never agreed with that stand against the human species. We are imperfect beings and we make many mis- takes. If I saved your life is because I understand that you did it for the love you profess to your daughter. Otherwise, he would have removed the safety catch that Frank gave me in that room. I do not even know if I do the right thing, but that’s it. No turning back, not for humanity or for me.”

“What are you talking about, girl?”

“During the adjustment program, a group of undead invaded Iceberg. I was locked in a small room, and one of them stabbed me in the shoulder teeth. I do not know how I managed to es- cape,” she said showing the wound was in the bathroom.

“Damn, Daylet! I do not know what to say. You must hate me with all your strength.”

“You know what the funny thing? I will not take my life. Ins- tead, you can get up and go on as before. I’ll try to get home to die among the memories... This is where we say goodbye.”

“Girl, come here,” Rachel said, opening his arms.

Daylet allowed to embrace and drew a couple of empty tears. The only feeling that addressed was that of lying to the woman who fooled the world.

“One day, when I wake up my Samantha, I’ll talk about you. I’ll tell you how great you were and will do my best to take your generosity.”

  “I’m sure that,” she affirmed.

The girl came to the door and, before leaving, he said:

“What I envy you is not your Nobel Prize or the Herculean feat to erase humans from this world. I envy you because you have a daughter, and I never know how it feels to be a mother.”

A Rachel was a lump in my throat and saw the girl, as he called affectionately, disappear from sight.

It groggy from medication, went back to sleep thinking of Sami.

The next day, he woke up sore but ready to stand. Rachel Hayes slipped on the edge of the sickle and fell to Daylet Lee. It was immediately to room cryogenic chambers and returned re- lief color when he found that the number one contained as the

left. He noted that amnion had been scheduled in four years and it seemed exaggerated, but the girl did the best he could. Even the same Rachel was certain that within four years remain traces of virus Z. No more nude entered the ninth and slept cryogen chamber under the effect of the gas.

In the coldest place Iceberg, a few steps marched slowly chec- king that from camera one to ten the cryogenic process was going perfectly. Only it needed to make an adjustment in the mother computer. Daylet advanced to amnion and reprogrammed the thawing process Samantha. Each body enclosed in those hyper cold tanks had its own history, especially the site number nine. But off camera, black bangs the girl had made such a detailed plan that managed to fool everyone, especially the woman who fired the bullet that killed the world.

In your lenses monitor the reflected light. The nerd put to work, and keyboard finger amnion received a downpour, so skillfully that lost Samantha’s body stiffen as the temperature increased. Daylet was ready to unfreeze the first person, and it was nothing more and nothing less than the daughter of Rachel turned into a zombie. Cryoprotectant fluid escaped the cold, and in the space of the veins and arteries of the DNA came from his mother. The other part Daylet completed with his own blood. After the pro- cess, amnion confirmed that the body in the chamber number one had returned successfully. Samantha was back.

Daylet covered the girl with a robe and took part of nanote- chnology. His vital signs were stable. The process of returning it from one chamber to 196 degrees below zero was his greatest prize. Everything seemed to be perfect, except for those features zombie. The work was hard. Days passed, and the body of Sa- mantha regenerated to the letter. The tone of your skin that went from gray-green to a young mother of pearl. His blackened nails cleared, revealing the pink of her fingers, hair and gained strength. However, the main thing was the reconstruction and stimulating your brain. They happened countless treatments, and despite finding aftermath of Z virus that innocent body, Samantha im- proved in all aspects. They were months of work to dispose of

all trash dumped in that girl just ten years. Months of extreme dedication. Months care electrical stability and maintenance of computers. genetic work in the manufacture of food and drink in the laboratory. Months turned into a year, and after that time, Samantha opened her eyes, and did not seem exactly cataract pa- tients. His gaze returned to shine, and his eyes were reacting to light and movement. Other senses were also in order. The only detail was that the girl could not remember her name. and his eyes were reacting to light and movement. Other senses were also in order. The only detail was that the girl could not remember her name. and his eyes were reacting to light and movement. Other senses were also in order. The only detail was that the girl could not remember her name.

“Your name is Samantha and you were asleep for a time,”

Daylet said with a patronizing smile.

The story of a new life was handled with great delicacy in the course of the next three years. Daylet never mentioned the story of a humanity sunk by a virus. And far less than the virus had originated in his blood, making it the first zombie. It was a rough start for both, because outside there was more danger than before. For the girl, the world was as painted at that time. Not even the same course Rachel imagined that it would take the new humanity after the epidemic. Yes, the devastation in cities was de- pressing. California disappeared behind the huge fires that spread throughout the territory, leaving the grim north of the Golden Gate footprint. The city of Las Vegas was buried under the de- sert sand, and so did New Orleans, but underwater, as the new Atlantis. Nature noticed the absence of man and recovered the space that belonged to him. The buildings that remained standing were invaded by all kinds of plants. But the attraction was the passage of the marching peacefully between cars rusted on roads filled cracks animals.

Four years passed, and amnion led the countdown to zero.

&nb
sp; Cold chambers were opened, and fell eight bodies naked and wet as finished giving birth by the very matrix of cryonics. None moved. The row of cameras, located next to each other and the same distance from each other, giving more sense of life than those torsos with arms and legs in all directions. Finally, one of them woke up. His eyes scanned the site without taking off the face of the ground. He noted in detail the equipment, bathed in white light with a lapis soul. With great difficulty, he managed to turn his neck to the other side. The surprise was not flinching left him for a long time. He tried everything to get up, but his mus- cles were atrophied by years of freezing. After a few hours, He struggled to his feet completely, however, suffered several falls in attempting to walk. amnion had the name as well, because they seemed large newborns.

Frank’s will up to the moment, the only one who had woken led him to delve into the body of those four men and three women who, unfortunately, suffered the same fate as him. As much as looked for a heartbeat, the fate he wrote that elected that winter returned without the slightest breath of life. He lay up, feeling the wetness on his back, checking every inch of himself, explaining what it was all about... Because dark-skinned man had returned alive, but with a blank mind.

The freezing process was too complicated, and thawing even worse. So far, he and Samantha were the only ones to do so, but with a condition of amnesia. At that time, what I needed was Frank answers. Again, and upright ant steps, it was moving through that room that far from clarify things, he left him more confused. Each new space that discovered it was related to those lifeless bodies, like his, had left these chambers. Then he noticed that one of them was closed. From left to right, exactly the number nine. He sought to blow eye, any chink, trying to make their content. It was too much effort for a single day, and your body just adapted to walk. Fatigue caused him fatigue and headache.

He awoke at dawn, with the mind of the same color. The cold put it in terms of finding clothes. livelier, wanting to try food and drink sugared He looked. Would I had not slide was anything

but spit in her throat. Style Hansel and Gretel, he left the room leading the way. I could not afford to miss. Nine cameras, could hold the answers he craved. At the end of a corridor he found a soda machine not hesitate to break the metal cylinder of a fire ex- tinguisher. After ingesting three different flavors, expelled several gases, which reminded him, even fleetingly, the sound emitted by zombies. It was the first glimmer of a certain past. Very strong eyes closed and opened and closed his mouth, as attempting to retain the memory with the edge of his teeth. He pressed his tem- ples with the palm of his hands, but that was his best attempt to capture a memory that faded quickly as the water in his hands. Helpless by the trap of life, returned to the cold room, and lea- ning against the only camera that would not open, gaze went over the bodies of the elect.

Nothing useful to do, he decided to look for sheets to cover corpses. Upon returning, he noticed that the ninth camera turned around very slowly. He rushed to cover the bodies. He did not want the person who came was met with a life so distant scene. The rotation took more than imagined, so he killed time by ope- ning and closing drawers few saw in the room. Again, memory gave him an elusive image when he discovered that one of them had a gun wrapped in men’s underwear.

He examined the gun from top to bottom and knew what it was used. He also knew that covered parts was more useful than a weapon. He had not the slightest idea what it all meant. Finally, the ninth chamber to let out the thin body. Rachel fell face down, half of a breast leaning by the weight of the torso. Frank looked at his wet hair like a jellyfish, admired his gooseneck even noticed the roundness of her breast on one side. The back was fine, like a violin arm arced just after the two dimples defined in the foothills of the mountains. Frank put his ear to the nearest shoulder blade. He was not sure whether he heard the beating were his or the woman at his feet. Tan raised his head and shook surprised when he saw with his eyes open. She looked at him like seeing a ghost. To top it off, still holding the same gun with which he shot four years ago.

Rachel could not escape even in thought. At bottom, he was sure would achieve up, only it felt as if it had been strafed with tranquilizer darts. At least he came back alive and, unlike Frank, she remembered everything. It did not explain what was the re- ason for that smile tan until he asked:

  “Are you okay?”

“I think” she replied with heavy tongue and lining of the

  mouth frozen.

“What are those things, and why we left there?”

“Who you are?” she asked, wanting to remove all doubt.

“I was hoping you would tell me,” added the dark with disappointment.

“I do not remember anything,” she lied, “but at least you’re standing.”

“I’ll get up cost. But be grateful you got out of that tank alive.

They... they were not so lucky.”

Rachel swallowed as he realized that the only ones who sur- vived were those two cryogenic processes. He tried to look up camera Samantha, but it was early so that your muscles react.

“What happened to the first camera?”

“I did not think it was important. Even it seems to have been used. When I managed to walk, I noticed it was open. If there was anyone there, he left long ago.”

“You’ve got to help you stand up!” she said wanting to see for herself the weight of those words.

“Quiet. Although help you stand up, you can neither sustain half a second. Better let the body adjust. Something tells me we spent a lot of time there. I’ll get some clothes.”

Man, figure disappeared behind a door, and Rachel’s gaze scanned every inch of the place. He could not believe it had been years. The room looked like before, with the same lights. Things

were still in the same place, except for the body of his daughter. A gasp tore his throat. What had happened in recent months? Why were the only ones to wake two of them, and brown and remem- bered that he had given up for dead? While invading all sorts of questions, he heard the door open again laboratory. He thought it was Frank, but an electrifying spasm body heated up when he saw Daylet accompanied by Samantha.

The girl was standing in a pink dress that ended at her knees. The thick hair ended in beautiful curls giving a touch of princess. A princess of fourteen. The eyes were more expressive than be- fore, brighter, and lip color matched her clothes. In one hand he carried a bouquet of tiny wildflowers.

Daylet was horrified to witness the bodies covered with sheets in front of empty tanks. He approached cautiously, and there, right behind the last body was Rachel’s body with open eyes. It was impossible to disguise the panic when he saw flashing. Des- pite the years, it was inevitable calm those beats were burning ribs when I was about. And even more when he heard her voice.

  “Samantha!”

The little girl gave flowers fright and half-hidden behind the

  body of Daylet, asked:

“Mommy, who is that woman who knows my name?” The black bangs girl took her hand and smiled:

“Not anyone, my love. Come on, it’s time to go.”

  Theend
