“Of course.” I took a breath, relieved to see her familiar, calm self. “We have higher clearance, remember?”
“Agents, please be patient,” Raythorn’s voice came through the speaker. “We are trying to work out the malfunction. We will open the doors shortly.”
“We’ll sort it, Mayra.”
The doors opened, and Raythorn stood by with a couple of his officers. Kaleb and the others returned with worried expressions on their faces. I explained my ass off, and babbled, “She fought Dreven Asorin. A dangerous mage who escaped the prison. This is classified but I will tell you now that she stopped him from raising an army to take out the humans. She’s a licensed witch, both light and dark, and she had to engage dark magic to help take him down. But look at her eyes, Raythorn. She’s clear.”
Raythorn frowned, glancing over his shoulder at the officers behind him. They nodded.
He looked back at me. “Go. I’ll clear the system. But if she changes…”
“We will take her in. I promise. I know how dangerous it is for her, and us, if she crosses that line.”
“As an Immigration Control Officer, I should report this. But as a member of the Fey, we pay our debts. You honor this world. Even when our world does not honor you by sending over so few to help. Go. Do what you must.”
“Thanks, Raythorn.”
He nodded, handing me both the security code and returning our bloody package. We joined the others, hurrying through the doors and returning to the world of Portiside.
