They walked down the aisle and then out the door of the church. The village had come out to celebrate and when they came outside, the crowd cheered and threw flowers and rice.

The reception would be at the estate but Abigail took the time to greet the villagers, who had known her when she was just a maid.

“Are you happy?” Jeremy asked her.

“Yes,” she said, turning to gaze at him. “You have made me the happiest girl in the world.”

“I’m so glad I chanced upon you in the garden that day,” he said to her.

“We were bound to meet,” she said, laying her head on his shoulder. “We belong together.”

“That, my dear, is something I can agree with wholeheartedly,” he said, and kissed the top of her head. “I love you.”

“I love you, too,” she said, closing her eyes. She didn’t know what the future held, but she knew that she would be happy as long as he was with her, and that was all that mattered. For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, until death would they part.
