  Chapter Thirty-Seven

  Dylan

Letting Allie choose the movie confirmed my suspicions that she was a smartass. There was no denying it was funny as hell listening to Nick pick apart the popular teen vampire movie while Allie told him what a beautiful love story it was. I got the impression she liked the movie, but not as much as she liked messing with Nick.

“These people obviously know nothing about vampires,” Nick muttered while shaking a fist at the screen.

“According to my cousin, the vampires are actually played by vampire actors,” Allie explained matter-of-factly. “Mel said the werewolf is played by a vampire, too, which was kind of a strange choice. I guess it makes sense, since they wanted him to look young.”

“Melina was involved with this movie?” I asked because I’d only heard about her working on the television show.

“She didn’t work on it, but one of the actors on her show had a small role in the movie,” Allie explained.

“A werewolf played by a vampire?” Nick looked horrified by the idea. “If there are vampires in the movie, why didn’t they do anything to correct the obvious mistakes in the plot?”

“The movie was made for humans,” I reminded him. “They probably weren’t quite as concerned with accuracy as they were with getting people to watch it.”

“Bet you go home and watch the other two movies,” Allie said with a grin.

“I have to see how it ends,” Nick said as if there was no other option. He stood and stretched his arms above his head.

Personally, I was willing to let Allie watch the other two movies without me, but I could tell Nick had enjoyed it more than he wanted to let on.

“Thanks again for coming over,” Allie said as she stood and hugged Nick.

“Any time,” Nick said. “I seriously mean that, too. My vampire friends are kind of dicks, and it’s nice to be around people who aren’t. Let me know if you ever need a ride home from work. I mean, so you don’t have to walk around alone at night with a killer out there.”

“We might take you up on that,” I said, but I doubted we would. It’s not that I didn’t trust Nick, but we had no idea what we were dealing with yet. Nick was a young vampire, and he’d be no match against an older vampire or demon. Plus, while Nick was much more dangerous than he appeared, he didn’t seem to have the killer instinct some vampires developed. Sadly, that likely wouldn’t last because vampires tended to lose their sense of compassion as they aged.

“I’ll catch you guys later,” Nick said as I let him out the front door.

After locking the door and reactivating the alarm spell, I turned to Allie and crossed my arms in front of my chest. “Were you trying to torture me with that movie? Or, was it just Nick you wanted to torture?”

“Hey!” she said indignantly. “I’ll have you know, that is one of my favorite movies.”

“Is that so?” I asked, advancing on her.

“Yes,” she insisted with an innocent smile as she took a step back. “I was hoping you’d watch the other two with me tonight. They’re so romantic.”

“You wanna know what I think?” I asked.

  “What’s that?”

“I think you’re lying,” I said and stalked toward her.
