Matt grinned like a Cheshire Cat.
“I thought I had lost it the day of the kidnapping. Those thugs were so rough, anyhow I forgot about it until that night after you dropped us off. As I was getting ready to take a shower I realized it was gone, not caught in any of my clothes. We had been tossed around first in the limo, then the van, then the boat only to be dumped on the island. It could have been anywhere. I was so upset, I cried.” She looked at Matt tears sliding down her cheeks. “I kept that locket in my jewelry case ever since you pushed me onto that bus. I have not worn it until the wake, feeling somehow, that day, you were closer to me and didn’t hate me anymore. Silly dreams of a stupid teenager.”
She delved into her apron pocket looking for a tissue. Matt reached behind the chair and searched in a few of his raincoat pockets and handed her a clean pressed handkerchief. Sativa looked up at him through a mist of tears and hurriedly wiped them away murmuring her thanks.
“Now that that issue is settled, here are a few things you need to know about me, Sativa. One, I did not push you onto that bus. Sending you away was the most difficult thing I have ever had to do. I told you that at the ferry.” He nodded to her hoping she would remember that conversation. Sativa smiled nodding her assent, eyes shining through more tears.
Two, I love you Sativa and that has never changed. Well, yes it has because back then it was teenage love. It was different from what I feel for you now. Archie has been teasing me about my feelings toward you since you came back into our lives. That made me think, really think. Off the record, I think he is a little sweet on Indica, but don’t mention I told you.” He winked at her conspiratorially, took a sip of coffee and continued.
“Three, would you consider marrying me, now or in the future sometime after we get reacquainted again? I am just a cop, Sativa, and always will be. I cannot offer you much of a life especially for a Las Vegas Entertainer. For the record, there has never been anyone else. Girlfriends, yes, but no one I wanted to share my life with. I think, deep down, I was waiting for you to come back.”
“Matt, that is the nicest offer, and for the record, the only offer I have ever had. Thank you, and the answer to that question is, Yes.”
He reached across the table and kissed her gently.
Indica stuck her head around the kitchen door and looked into the shop.
“How many batches of cookies do you think …… never mind, I can see you are busy, sorry to interrupt …. I’ll be out in the kitchen if you need me.” Indica discreetly backed her way out of the shop after she tiptoed over to the door, slid the latch, and dropped the CLOSED sign in place.
RECIPES
These are vintage recipes from my personal recipe box from the 1960’s and 1970’s. which is around the time of Woodstock and when Sativa and Indica’s Mother would have created these brownies and cookies.
The amount of CANNABUTTER you decide to add is your personal choice. There are other ways to make Better Butter which is a very involved process. We chose to give you the shortened condensed version.
