Amosa had only cloaked them with temporary invisibility. They became visible as soon as the creature disappeared. Alexia’s mouth was wide open in shock.
“What was that?” Her words were slow and quiet.
Amosa shook her head. “Never seen one before. He made a mess of your house,” she said bluntly.
Alexia didn’t know what to think. Her childhood home had just been crushed. She stared out at the flattened corpse of the house and cried. She had so many memories from in that house. Now that was all she had, memories.
Amosa walked over to the house and poked around the dusty rubble. “Look at this,” she said casually, waving Alexia over. Alexia sniffed loudly and walked over. She wasn’t looking at the ground and felt her foot give out from under her. She had nearly walked right into the black hole. Amosa grabbed her and pulled her back.
“Careful!”
“Where did that come from?” Her heart felt like it was breaking through her chest.
“That thing dug it.”
“What was it looking for?” Alexia peered into the hole. She couldn’t see the bottom.
“Whatever it was, he found it.”
“How do you know he found it?” Alexia said as she dropped a piece of wood into the hole. She didn’t hear it land.
“He only made one hole. If he didn’t find it, there would be other holes, don’t you think?”
Alexia nodded. “You’re right. But what could have been under my house?”
Amosa shook her head. “Beats me. Shall we find your friends and then head back to Siania to communicate with the Watchers?”
“Yeah, I better check that they got out of the house okay.”
Amosa nodded and they started to search for Ronda and Ava.
