Katie pulled away from the kiss with a wide smile and dropped to her knees. She yanked Mel’s sleep shorts and underwear down to her ankles, ran her hands up her thighs to her ass, then dove between her thighs.
“Oh, shit.” Mel swayed forward as she grabbed Katie’s head and shoulder for support. “Oh, fuck.”
Katie hummed against Mel’s clit while she firmly lapped at it with the flat of her tongue. She gripped Mel’s ass harder for a moment, then removed one hand to push two fingers inside her sopping wet entrance.
After just a few short, yet very pleasurable minutes, Mel climaxed with a loud moan and nearly fell over. Katie stood up licking her lips and pulled Mel’s shorts and underwear up. As she wrapped her arms around Mel, she leaned in and gave her a passionate kiss that made her feel even more intoxicated.
When she pulled away, she caressed Mel’s cheek, and cooed, “I missed you. I was lying in bed thinking about you and I couldn’t fall asleep. Before I knew it, I was in the car on my way to see you. Is it okay that just I showed up like this?”
“Are you kidding me?” Mel released a drunken sort of laugh. “I’m definitely not complaining about this.”
“Good.”
Katie turned to lock the door, then took Mel’s hand and led her down the hall to her bedroom. After closing the door, Katie pulled her tee shirt and bra off, and while she walked to the bed, she pushed her pants and panties off. She climbed into Mel’s bed and laid back with her arms behind her head wearing nothing but an inviting, seductive smile.
Mel quickly ripped her clothes off and crawled up the bed to lay between Katie’s thighs. After looping her arms around her thighs, she basted Katie’s already wet sex with her adoration.
Katie’s back arched and her arms flew out to the sides to grip the sheets in her fists. Her hips rose up against Mel’s face as her heels dug into the mattress, and Mel tightened her arms around her thighs.
There were few things that Mel didn’t mind being woken up for on a weeknight when she had to be up early for work. Most of which would be emergencies. But very few interruptions would be happy ones. Having amazing sex with her girlfriend was definitely at the top of the best reasons to be woken up early.
After Katie climaxed, and she rode out every body-twitching aftershock, she pulled Mel up to lay with her, holding Mel’s head on her chest. Content, rather, more than content – downright overjoyed, Mel drew her hand side to side over Katie’s breast and upper chest. And while she waited for her breathing to normalize, Katie kissed Mel’s head, then ran her fingers up through her short hair and traced her fingertips along the curve of her neck.
“I wish we didn’t have to be up for work in four hours. I just want to stay like this all day.”
Mel smiled as she lifted her head off of Katie’s chest and gave her a kiss on the lips. “Me too. Hey,” Mel grinned as she proposed, “you’re the boss. How about you just declare today a holiday?”
With a laugh, Katie sleepily answered, “I wish.” She sighed as she rubbed Mel’s back. “We have that big meeting at ten about the server overhaul.”
“You mean, you have a big meeting. I wasn’t on that meeting invite.” Mel laid her head back down on Katie’s chest, but Katie tugged her head back up, forcing her to meet her eyes. “I already told you I want you in that meeting. You know the systems better than I do, so you need the information first hand. We’re going to that meeting together. I don’t care who has a problem with it.”
“Okay, boss.”
Mel tried to lay down again, but Katie planted her lips firmly on hers and engaged her in a deep kiss. Something inside Mel snapped like a rope holding too much weight. She rolled over onto Katie, ripped her hands off of her face, and roughly pinned them above her head. Katie moaned into Mel’s mouth and her body arched up against her. Mel broke from the kiss, and while she held both of Katie’s wrists with her left hand, she slipped her right between her thighs and thrust three fingers inside of her, deep and hard.
“Fuck!”
Katie gasped as her body rippled from the force of the stroke, which was quickly followed by an equally aggressive thrust, then another, and another. She shrieked as Mel latched onto her left nipple, sucking and nibbling on the hardened nub with more force than she has ever used on Katie or any previous partner. Mel felt a fresh flow of hot arousal pour out of Katie, rushing past her fingers, and it spurred her on even more. She changed to her other breast to knead the nipple with her teeth, then curled her hand enough that her palm slammed into Katie’s clit with every thrust inside of her.
“Fuck! Oh, fuck! Mel! Yes, oh, fuck, yes!”
As she came, her throat felt like it split with the loud scream that ripped its way up from the bowels of her ecstasy. Mel gasped and shuddered against her as a surprise orgasm burst between her thighs without even being touched at all. She extracted her fingers from inside Katie and gently caressed her folds, making Katie spasm and whimper underneath her.
“Mel, that was…” She trembled as another smaller orgasm radiated through her. “Unbelievable. Kiss me.”
Mel released her wrists and Katie wrapped her arms around her as their mouths united with so much passion it was nearly heartbreaking. As Mel’s hips pressed down against hers, Katie grabbed Mel’s ass and yanked her in harder. Mel planted her forearms on the bed along Katie’s sides for more leverage, then engaged her abs, lower back, and thighs to pump her groin against Katie’s, grinding their swollen clits together.
Katie’s head fell back with a sharp gasp, and Mel dipped into her neck, giving her sucking kisses. But as an orgasm suddenly gripped her body, she fell on top of Katie quivering and lightly moaning. Katie rubbed her back and head while she pumped her hips up against Mel, doing the work to get off, and as she climaxed, she fully relaxed with her arms falling limp at her sides.
“Mel, what were you thinking about while you were fucking me? You’ve never been so rough before.”
Mel quickly lifted her head, and asked, “Was it too much? Did I hurt you?”
“No, it was wonderful. I just want to know what brought it out of you.”
“I don’t know. Maybe because you were being so bossy.” Katie laughed and Mel’s face split into a silly grin. “I just really wanted to make you scream.”
“Mission accomplished. Do you think we woke Layla up?”
“Probably not. Once she falls asleep, she’s out. The world could be ending outside and she’d sleep through it. It’s a real chore waking her up every morning.”
“You’re such a good friend.” Katie caressed her cheek and brushed her fingers through her tousled hair. “She’s lucky to have you.”
“I think I’m luckier to have her. She’s amazing.” Mel’s mouth fell open in a deep yawn and she quickly lifted a hand to cover it. “Shit, sorry.”
“We should try to sleep.”
Mel quirked an eyebrow, and asked, “Are you being bossy again?”
“You know I’m not.” Katie playfully tugged her earlobe. “Behave.”
“Okay. We’ll sleep.”
After giving Katie a brief kiss, she rolled off of her and pulled Katie over to lay on her chest. Katie pulled the covers up over them, trapping their body heat in a comfortable cocoon, then caressed Mel’s chest and the side of her neck.
With a sigh, she contentedly whispered, “Goodnight, Mel.”
“Goodnight, even though it’s morning.”
With Mel’s arms wrapped around Katie, and Katie’s leg draped over hers and her hand resting on the top of Mel’s chest, they quickly drifted off to sleep. But the alarm clock on Mel’s nightstand went off well before either of them were ready to be awake. Katie rolled over and smacked the snooze button, then snuggled up with Mel again.
Mel wrapped her arms tightly around her and gruffly asked, “Didn’t you just tell me goodnight? Why is it time to get up already? Come on, declare today a holiday.”
“What would the holiday be?”
“National Sex Appreciation Day.

Katie laughed and gave one of Mel’s nipples a quick, sharp pinch, making her gasp and buck in shock then laugh. “I like the sound of that holiday, but I don’t think it will go over well at work.”
“How about National Girlfriend Appreciation Day? It’s less explicit and actually sounds legitimate. Actually, it sounds too legitimate. Is that really a thing?”
“I don’t know.” Katie caressed her cheek. “But I don’t need a holiday to celebrate being with you. Every day with you feels special and important.”
“I’m really happy when I’m with you too. I haven’t been in a relationship in so long that I didn’t think I’d remember how to be if I ever did meet someone new.”
“I assure you, Mel, you are meeting every single expectation.”
Mel’s brow furrowed, and she asked, “Just meeting? Not exceeding? How long do I have to improve before this goes on my performance review?”
Katie laughed as she bent down to give Mel a brief kiss. “Don’t be a brat. You know what I’m trying to say.”
“Thank you.”
“Are you still going to kickboxing tonight?”
“Damn it, is it really Monday? We really have to go to work today?”
“It is and we do.”
Mel groaned as she rubbed her face, then pouted at Katie between her fingers, and whined, “I don’t know. I’ll have to check with Layla. Oh, shit, what time is it?” Katie allowed her to sit up so she could see the clock, then Mel jumped out of bed and spun around looking for her pajamas. “I need to wake Layla up. I’ll be back.”
She raced out of the room pulling her tee shirt down to cover her torso, and just before she entered Layla’s room, she knocked twice. She knocked every morning, but Layla never responded because she was such a sound sleeper. She opened the door and walked around to the side of Layla’s bed.
“Hey, Layla, time to get up.” She gently jostled Layla’s shoulder, and as typical, Layla groaned and swatted at her. “Layla, get up. A bat got in the apartment and it’s hanging right above your head. It looks hungry. Come on, I don’t want you to turn into a vampire.”
Layla released a grumpy laugh and threw one of her pillows at Mel. “You are so annoying. Go away. I’m trying to sleep.”
“Layla, I’m completely serious. There is a bat hanging above…”
“You already used that one this month. There is no damn bat hanging above my head.”
“Alright, fine, there’s not. But Katie is here and I need to get back to her. You awake enough so I can leave you?”
Layla grinned as she opened her eyes and slowly sat up. “When did she get here? You text her or she text you?”
“She just showed up, actually. Just before two.”
Layla growled like a lioness, making Mel laugh and blush.
“That’s sexy. Okay, you can go. I’m awake.”
Mel turned to leave, but then turned back and jumped on the bed and tackled Layla, making Layla laugh hard. Mel kissed her cheeks, then whispered, “Thanks for dragging me out to go dancing that one night even though I just wanted to mope around the apartment.”
“You’re welcome. I’m so happy for you, Mel.”
“Are we going to kickboxing tonight?”
“Don’t you dare tell me you’re bailing on me. You promised me a full month. We’ve only been twice.”
“Yeah, yeah, okay, fine.” Mel kissed her forehead and sat up. “Alright, I’m going back to Katie. Don’t you dare lay back down.”
“I’m going to get my shower. Are you going to make breakfast?”
“Sure. What do you want?”
“An egg-white omelet with spinach and mushrooms.”
“Coming right up.”
Mel started to climb off of the bed, but Layla pulled her back and gave her a tight hug, and whispered, “I love you, Mel.”
“I love you more.”
After Mel gave Layla a kiss on the cheek, Layla released her so she could stand up and leave the room. When she returned to her bedroom, Katie was sitting on the foot of the bed dressed in her pajamas and leaning back on her hands.
“A bat, huh?”
Mel laughed as her cheeks blushed. “You heard that?” She held out a hand to Katie, and asked, “Breakfast and coffee?” Katie just answered by smiling and accepting her hand. While they walked down the hall to the kitchen, Mel explained, “It’s become a joke between us when I’m trying to get Layla out of bed. I make up some ridiculous situation going on to entice her out of her dreams. I can’t be dramatic about it though or she’ll startle really bad.” Mel laughed, and added, “That usually results in me getting punched or kicked by accident. Well, worse than usual. She always swats at me in the morning. She’s such a gem.” Mel laughed again as she turned the coffee maker on to brew a pot of delicious French roast. “I’m running out of ideas though. Apparently, I already used the bat getting in the apartment this month. And I know I’ve used it many other times.”
“What about zombies?”
Mel nodded as she bent down to pull ingredients out of the fridge. “Yeah, I’ve used that one. That one does not go over well.” She turned with eggs, cheese, and vegetables stacked in her arms. “She accidently gave me a blackeye the first time I used that one. Zombies terrify her.”
“Damn.” Katie chuckled as she walked to the sink to wash her hands so she could help with breakfast. “She can’t wake up with an alarm clock?”
“Not really. She typically sleeps through them. Or she sleeps through hitting the snooze over and over again. We even tried recording crazy messages to play as her alarm ringer on her cellphone. That didn’t work either. She needs someone to physically touch her. I have to shake her shoulder a few times to get her to wake up enough that all of the noise and nonsense talking actually work to keep her awake.”
After Mel washed her hands, Katie asked, “What can I do?”
“Layla wants an egg-white omelet with spinach and mushrooms, so I need to sauté those. What would you like?”
“That sounds good, but can I have the full egg?”
“Yeah, of course. I always add the yolks from Layla’s to mine so they don’t go to waste. Do you want cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese or both?”
“Both sounds good. I’ll wash the vegetables.”
“Thanks.”
While Mel grated cheese, Katie washed the spinach and mushrooms and used some paper towels to dry them well. Then while Mel separated the eggs, Katie gently sautéed the vegetables in a skillet.
“Oh, uh, Layla is still making me go to kickboxing tonight. I did promise her a month, so…” Mel sighed as she looked at her knuckles that were still red and a little scabbed from the first week. Even though she controlled her punches last week, she still opened up a couple of the wounds and slowed their healing. “My hands are going to be ugly again.”
Katie wrapped her arms around her from behind and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “Just don’t punch as hard this time. But even if you skin them again, I’ll doctor them up for you.” She slipped her hands up under Mel’s tee shirt to caress her stomach, and purred against her ear, “I like taking care of you.”
“You are really making it impossible to want to go to work today.” Katie started to pull away, and Mel quickly asked, “Hey, where do you think you’re going?”
With a laugh, Katie said, “I was going to take the spinach and mushrooms off of the heat. They’re done.”
“Oh, okay, I guess you can do that.”
Katie gave her a quick kiss on the lips and pinched her ass as she turned back to the stove to pull the frying pan off of the burner. As she wrapped her arms around Mel again, they shared a look that felt like the prelude of a romantic song. It felt really good to wake up together and work on breakfast together on a workday. The moment felt like a major milestone in their relationship.
Chapter Twenty-Three
While Katie waited for the printer to churn out the twenty pages of the workflow chart, she drummed her thumb impatiently
on the corner of the machine. As soon as the last page spit out, she snatched them up and walked out of her office and into Mel’s.
“Hey, do you have time to meet?”
Mel looked up from her computer, then looked back to finish typing a sentence. “Uh, yeah, let me just finish this email. What’s up?”
“They set a date for swapping out the server.”
With her face pinched as if she was in pain, Mel looked up again, and asked, “When is it?”
“July 28th.”
“Shit, that’s only two months away. Are they crazy? The last time we swapped a server out it took seven months.”
“I know.” Katie exhaled hard as she turned on her heels and closed the door. “It’s a much more aggressive goal than they previously planned.” She walked across the office and sat on the desk a couple of feet away from Mel, and Mel turned in her seat to give Katie her full attention. “Apparently, the distribution center in Vancouver, Washington also needs to swap a server. But their backup server isn’t capable of handling the full system load to make a seamless transition like we can. We’re going to have to give them some bandwidth to keep their operations running while they make the swap. They only have a maximum of six months of data storage left, so they have to complete their swap by autumn, which bumps our timeline up significantly.”
Mel sighed as she rubbed the back of her neck. Katie gave her an understanding look and reached out to massage her shoulder. With another sigh, Mel slid her chair a little closer and cupped Katie’s ankle and slid her hand up and down over her calf muscle.
“You remember our team didn’t meet the deadline for our piece last time, right?”
“Yes, I remember you telling me that on Monday.” She continued to massage Mel’s shoulder. “But we’re not going to think about that. We’re just going to come up with a plan and execute it. And if we need to make adjustments as we go along, we will. You up for the challenge?”
