  CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

  STEELE

“Fuck, you’re sexy, babe.” I swat Jaylyn’s perfect ass cheek. She laughs, placing her hand in front of it to protect herself from another slap. I roll over, wrap my arms around her, and pull her body on top of mine.

I can’t believe I’m in Virginia in a hotel room with her. I wasn’t sure how all of this would go down, but I had to take the chance even if it failed. I had to put my heart out there and hope she’d take it.

I did a little investigating and found out the scoop with TJ Banks. He concocted an arrow shooting machine, like the kind that shoots baseball for batting practice and had it set to a timer. It’s not unusual for a stunt person to play around and come up with their own new gadgets for different jobs. The whole thing just came down to bad timing. He was testing the machine right at the same time Jaylyn walked into the room. He knew it was him or Jay. Of course, he picked Jay. When I learned about Gracie, I knew I couldn’t win Jay that day. Gracie put so many other things into perspective. Jay’s loss was much deeper then I could ever imagine. I would never have a chance of convincing her to give us a try while I was employed as a stuntman. It was clear to me then that I had to make a choice.

  And the choice was easy.

She smiles down at me. “What’s the plan? How’s this going to work?”

“How attached are you to Chicago?”

She laughs, and the sound, God, I want it filling my ears for eternity. “Not very.”

“Okay, let’s talk after this gig.”

“Yeah.” She scrunches her nose. “Maybe we can talk about that theory of yours as well.”

“What’s that?” I look at her tempting lips and try to hold back from stealing another kiss long enough to hear her out.

“That woman don’t fall in love with you.”

“Why? You got some proof it’s wrong?”

“I might.” She smiles, and my greedy mouth gives in. I rob a kiss and another and another. “Hey.” She pulls her mouth from mine, licking her lips. “You’re really David Mooney’s stunt coordinator? Seriously?”

“Yeah.” I chuckle. “Ya think I’d start our relationship with a lie?”

She pushes up from me and sits on the bed. “I don’t know if we can work together and sleep together. I mean, that’s not very professional, is it?”

“Since when were we ever professional?”

Her mouth drops open. “I’ve always been—”

“I know.” I pull her back on top of me. “I know.” I tap her ass cheek. “It’s okay, Miss Rigsby, I already cleared it with the boss.”

“Gary Billard? You cleared it with him?”

“Yes, now shut up.” I pull her mouth down to mine for a kiss and press my growing erection into her soft belly.

“Steele.” She sets her chin on my chest and gazes up at me with those blue eyes. “Is that her real name? Jaggs?”

  “I don’t know, why?”

“I was just thinking about David and the track today, and that made me think of Crash—”

“Hold up, let me get this straight. While your naked body is on top of mine, and I’m kissing you, you’re thinking about David Mooney and my brother?”

“Everything’s not about you. My mind runs in all different directions at the same time. So back to Crash and Jaggs. How long have they been married?”

“Woman, what are you talking about? Crash isn’t married.”

“Oh.” She jumps out of bed and puts her hands on her hips. “Yes, he is!”

“I think …” I pause to appreciate her naked beauty and shake my head. She’s mine, every inch of her belongs to me. “I’d know if my little brother was married or not.”

“You would think, but when I was doing a background check on him, he came up as being married.”

“Who?” I pop up on my elbows. “Just who is was he married to?”

“Oh! Let me check my phone. I might still have the report.”

  “Yeah, you do that …”
