Inferno: Werewolf Romance (Smokey Falls Wolves Book 1)
Page 9
Roman places his hands on my face and kisses me deeply, letting his love spill into me the way I let him taste mine. We savor the exchange of our connection that seeps into our hearts and our souls.
When we break the kiss, he leans his forehead against mine, and the stubble of his cheeks is rough on my palms as I hold his face in my hands. I’ve found my true mate, and I’m never going to let go. Roman lets out a sigh so deep, I know it’s one of satiation and relief. I let out the same sound, because I’m mated. Forever.
Epilogue
The earth is cool beneath my bare feet as I step out of the forest with Roman by my side. He holds my hand as I gaze at the waterfall before me. A fine mist coats my skin, and the moisture cools me.
“This is amazing.” I turn to my true mate and look into his golden-brown eyes that warm my heart as he gazes at me with love. Once my friends and I returned to our homes after our RV vacation, it took me exactly one day to quit my job, pack up my life, and head to Smokey Falls. Jayden is still tying up loose ends, but she’ll be here next week, which will give the pack time to adjust to not only the alpha’s new mate, but the human who will be brought into the pack.
Water rushes loudly in my ears. Roman and I ran here as wolves, but we shifted so we could swim in the river as humans. His grip is tight as he tugs me toward the falling water. I notice the glaring red scar on my mate’s shoulder and the one on his side where he was bitten and poisoned. While it could be a constant reminder that I was foolish enough to almost get my mate killed, I know that it’s better for me to let it be a sign that Roman is a powerful alpha who would do anything to save his true mate—me. When he lets go of my hand and signals for me to jump, I don’t question him for a second. I leap into the river, completely trusting him.
The water is cold, but not in an unpleasant way, and I swim out to the middle of the large pool formed by the waterfall. I turn to see Roman is still on the bank, and I call out, “Romeo, Romeo! Where are you?”
He dives into the river and stays submerged until he grips my ankle and tugs before he pops up in front of me. He pulls me into a slippery embrace I could squirm out of easily, but I don’t need to. I no longer feel trapped by the confines of a mate. Roman says, “Right here with you, Juliet. For the rest of our lives.” And when he kisses me, I know there’s no place I’d rather be.
When Jayden’s mother shows up to help plan her wedding the secret of the Smokey Falls Wolves isn’t the only thing in danger. Jayden might lose Alex too. Read the next Smokey Falls Book: Heat.
