“Understood, Alpha.”
“Good.” With that Jason left the room.
They all trailed slowly into the garden. They were quiet thinking about what they learned. Finally, Toby asked, “Do you think it was the fey-bitch again? Seems a bit farfetched, witches and demons…” He trailed off. Jack sighed before replying.
“That woman had her fingers in many pies. I for one wouldn’t be surprised if she were somehow involved in this as well.”
“Do you think Morton and Douglass will decide to help Linda?” Lucas asked. It was Jason that answered, sounding tired.
“I’m not sure. It will be up to them. I know that Morton has been forever traumatised by his encounters with demons. He wouldn’t tell me the whole story, just the basics, but even that sounded like a horror movie. I think, if he agrees to help, it will be a very brave thing to do.”
“Well, whatever happens, happens,” Toby said, trying to dispel the sour mood. “Let’s try to focus on the positives, huh?”
“Positives?” Jack asked. Toby grinned at him.
“Yeah, you know, your old evil alpha being dead? That means that Elina can go home now, doesn’t it?”
Last Halloween a group of young cuberow shifters attacked their pack thinking Jason was behind their friend’s disappearance. The alpha managed to clear the misunderstanding and promised to help search for the missing girl. They managed to contact Elina and confirm that she was safe but afraid of her pack alpha and unwilling to come home. Her brother was in constant contact with them ever since, wanting updates on his sister.
“Oh,” Jack said then returned the grin. “Oh, yeah! I mean they will need to clean the house a bit more, but yeah, she’ll probably be able to.”
“Oh, gods, yes!” Tyler spoke for the first time. “That means we can finally get rid of that annoying pup!” Everyone laughed. Bret, Elina’s brother, could be very, very annoying. “Always look on the bright side of life!” Ty belted out loudly. In unison, everyone around him whistled the Monty Python tune, then burst out laughing. Mood much improved, they dispersed to mingle with the pack members once again. Jack hugged his mate close, and they went in search of their kids. Their dealings with the fey-bitch might not be finished yet, but they were getting closer. And in the meantime, they had family and food. They were going to be fine. Jack was sure of that.
