“Kill the woman I love? Never,” I smiled up at her, leaning in slowly to take a tempting pink nipple in my mouth, sucking like it was a fucking lollipop, sweet and soft. She arched into me, hips still moving while her pussy clamped hard around my cock.
“Fuck, you’re so hard and I’m so…sensitive!” She squealed the words when I bit down on her nipple and pulled more aftershocks of pleasure from her supple body.
It was exactly what I needed. Her pussy pulsed fast and hard, hips swirling in a teasing circle that sent me right over the edge as her honey coated my cock.
“So fucking tight, babe. I love you.” I held Maddie tight and she wrapped her arms around me, still shivering and shaking from her pleasure.
“Love you, too,” she panted and then collapsed on top of me.
We lay there, arms and legs entangled as we struggled to get air into our lungs, both of us smiling at each other like idiots.
“This is the life, Maddie.”
She laughed. “Pretty sure this is our life, Jameson.” Pushing up on her elbow with her head resting in her hand, Maddie flashed a smile at me. “Are you sure you want this?”
I shook my head and pulled her close, so her naked body was flush against mine.
“Fuck, yeah, Madds. I love you. And I can’t wait to meet our baby.”
Our lips came together in a hard, intense kiss that sent heat through my veins. “Are you sure? Just because I found Molly, it doesn’t obligate you to be with me.” It was a worry of mine, that some of her love was gratitude.
Maddie pushed at my chest and fire burned all the gold threads in her brown eyes. “You are an idiot sometimes, Jamie, you know that?” She shook her head and sat up, cupping my cheeks in her hands. “I love you even more for doing what I couldn’t and bringing Molly back to me, Jamie. But I knew I loved you before she walked in that door before I peed on that stupid stick. I love you Jameson Ellison, and I want to have a life with you.”
“Good, because I’m planning for a long life with you that includes a bigger place. And more babies.”
Her eyes widened. “Let’s see if I survive this one, first. You know I cried over a commercial for skin moisturizer? Skin moisturizer, Jamie! These hormones are fucking ridiculous.”
I laughed and dropped a kiss on her forehead. “It’s just our baby making himself or herself known.”
She snorted a laugh. “With all these hormones, it definitely has to be a boy.” She let out a soft sigh. “With your gorgeous gray eyes.”
“It could be a girl with your pouty lips and those gold lightning bolts in your eyes, especially when you get pissed off.” The thought of that sat perfectly with me. A little girl who was Maddie’s spitting image. “A little mini-Maddie, complete with your smart mouth and fiery attitude.”
“Oh, what a way to curse the woman you love. I don’t need a little girl anything like me, thank you very much. I’d probably strangle her at fifteen.”
She laughed and absently rubbed her belly. “I don’t care what we have as long as the baby is healthy. And small. Very, very small.”
“Unlikely. Charlie and I were both eight-pound babies.”
“Don’t tell me that!”
I let out a bark of laughter. “Why not? You’re a strong woman. You can handle it.”
“Of course, I can handle it. I’d just like to be able to walk again after childbirth, Jamie.”
“I don’t know, Maybe I want to keep you barefoot and pregnant for the next few years.” I smacked a kiss to her outraged expression. “But not until after I make you my wife.”
“Your wife?” She choked on the words, surprised by them.
“Uh, yeah. That’s how this goes, Madison. We’re together and having a baby, We’re getting married. Sooner rather than later.”
Her eyes looked up at me, expression serious for a long moment before laughter exploded out of her.
“Oh my God! You’re not just a traditionalist, you’re a romantic. How in the hell did I manage to snag a hot as fuck romantic?” She laughed, her brows dipping into a frown. “I love it, really, I just didn’t realize it.”
“I love you, so obviously I plan to marry you, Maddie.” The words came out on a growl that sent a shiver through her body.
She sat back on her elbows, giving me a gorgeous view of her big tits and hard nipples, her still glistening pussy. “I’ll think about marrying you, Jamie. But since you’re so romantic, I expect a proper proposal. Not necessarily at a fancy restaurant or on the Jumbotron or anything, but a real proposal.”
A real proposal. I’d been trying to figure that out for weeks. What kind of proposal would a woman like Maddie prefer? I knew she wouldn’t want to be put on the spot at some fancy restaurant, with people watching her expectantly. A helicopter ride over the city was too much for a simple woman like her and a sporting event was just cheesy and overdone.
“How do you feel about hot air balloons?”
“I’d love to try one, but I might be too freaked out to answer any important questions.”
Her lips twitched and I pressed my mouth to hers, soaking up the soft feel of her lips, deepening the kiss just enough to remind her that she was mine. I pulled back with a smile and jumped out of bed, racing down the hall where I kept my gun safe and other important things.
“Oh hell, I don’t need to see that.” Molly’s voice sounded behind me, and I looked over my shoulder with a sheepish smile.
“Sorry.”
“You don’t look sorry,” she said with a grin when she spotted the velvet box in my hands.
“I’m not. I’ve been told I have a great ass,” I told her with a wink, and slipped back inside the bedroom where Maddie waited, sprawled naked and beautiful on the bed.
“You do have a great ass,” she said with a sigh. “Perfectly pinchable.”
“Be quiet, Maddie.” She gasped and sat up, ready to give me a piece of her mind before she glimpsed the box. “My turn to speak.”
She grinned and made a motion that zipped her lips closed, one brow slightly arched as if to challenge my tone.
I smiled. “Madison you are not like most girls, and I figured that out the first time I met you and you said exactly what was on your mind. I never thought it was possible to be friends with a beautiful woman, but you were my friend. Hell, you are my best friend. I knew we’d be something special when you reached out to me at the academy, checking in on me, teasing me and of course, sending me donuts.”
Tears formed in her eyes, and she swiped at a couple of eager ones that had already started to fall. “A guy’s gotta eat,” she said, laughing.
“You took care of me, and I didn’t realize it at the time. I chalked it up to us being friends, but I think I was already falling for you back then.”
I smiled and shook my head as those memories came flooding back.
“Those random text messages kept me sane. Your determination to find your sister pushed me to be the best so I could help people just like you.”
She flashed a deepening smile. “What you’re saying is that I’m like, basically responsible for your career?”
“In a way, yes. You were my support when I didn’t think I needed it. You give it to me straight and tell me when I’m being an ass, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.”
I opened the box and held it out to her, watching her eyes pop at the ring her sister helped me pick out last week.
“Marry me, Madison Blythe. Let’s start our wild and crazy fucking life together. Let’s laugh and fuck and fight until we’re too old to do those things. What do you say?”
She laughed, her hands flying to her mouth. “That’s a mighty fine offer, Jameson. I’ll have to think about—” I fell on top of her, cutting off her jokes.
Seriousness softened her eyes and she said, “Yes, Jamie, yes, I’ll marry you, you animal!” She dotted my face with kisses between fits of laughter. “I can’t wait to marry you.”
“Next week at the courthouse?” I was eag
er as hell to make her mine, officially. I wanted to do it before the world interfered to delay the inevitable.
“Two weeks in your mom’s backyard? Maybe you can eat my pussy in that treehouse?” She wiggled her brows. “And after that, you can fix it up for our kids to play in?”
“Fuck, woman, I couldn’t love you more if I tried.” I pressed my lips to hers, eyes closed with our future laid out in front of me, I could see it so clearly.
Three more kids.
A detective’s shield.
A house with a big backyard.
Gray hair and grandkids.
I could see it all, and it was fucking incredible.
Epilogue
Jameson
“Hey man, what’s with all the cloak and dagger shit?” I’d driven two hours into the goddamn desert after receiving a cryptic message from Beau, just to sit inside his car with the sun beating down on us. “I left a warm, naked fiancée in bed for this.”
Beau smirked. “Congratulations.”
“Beau,” I growled, growling. “Thanks.”
“Have a seat. This is some cloak and dagger type of shit for real, and what I’m about to tell you is beyond illegal.”
I held up a hand. “Don’t fuck up your career on my account, Beau. This investigation isn’t worth it.”
Beau gave me a look that said are-you-fucking-kidding-me, raking one hand through his hair.
“Let me rephrase this. What I’m about to share with you doesn’t exist. If you find it useful for your investigation, you’ll have to find another way to prove it. Got it?”
“Yeah, I got it. Now you’ve piqued my interest.”
He laughed. “Just wait until you hear it. The individuals speaking. You’ll hear two voices. They’re in a public place, an Italian restaurant, so some of the audio is muffled.”
Beau fiddled with some levels and shit on a small box, and then the sounds of a busy restaurant echoed inside his big black sedan.
“All I’m saying is that we could come to a mutually beneficial arrangement, if you’re up to the task.”
That voice was surely Sadie Ashby. I’d met the woman enough times to recognize it instantly.
“Mutually beneficial, how? Exactly?” This voice belonged to a man. It was deep and commanding but unfamiliar.
“Who is that?”
“Richie Mueller,” Beau said with a satisfied smile.
“Sadie met with Mueller? When?”
“While you were at the academy. Homeland Security was looking into him as part of a human trafficking ring.” Beau shook his head in disgust.
I scoffed. “This guy was deep undercover, if DHS didn’t know.”
“Stupid bureaucratic bullshit is what it is,” Beau growled and restarted the audio.
“Easy,” Sadie purred, “you take care of this one thing for me, and I’ll back off you and Rhymer. Or I’ll owe you a favor at a later date.”
“What’s the favor?”
The audio dipped in and out in some spots, but the gist of it was clear. Sadie speaking again. “A man named Burns has a relative that I need taken care of, sooner rather than later. You take care of him, and I’ll owe you one.”
Beau and I shared a shocked look. “That’s a tough ask,” I said with a low whistle.
“Even tougher to reject if she’s offering to get off his ass. Makes his case a little easier to make.” Beau shrugged it off with a sigh. “Plus, it’s not so bad having Sadie Ashby owe you a favor.”
“Shit.” That would be the hardest thing to turn down. I held my breath as the audio started up again.
“How am I supposed to find this person’s relative? What was the name again?”
You’d almost think Mueller knew he was being recorded. He was so smooth, trying to get more details.
The sound of a plate crashing in the background kicked up just as Sadie spoke.
“With that name you should figure it out pretty quickly, Father. The same way you guys manage to find the perfect place to put your pervert priests.”
The name was muffled all to hell which only made my job harder.
“We’re not all perverts, as you say.”
Sadie let out a soft, feminine laugh. From the sound of it, I’d say she was almost flirting.
“A priest who works as a human trafficker on the side isn’t a pervert? I haven’t been that naïve and foolish in a long time.”
Her second laugh was darker, bitter and filled with something akin to hate.
“Yes, well, we all do what we have to in these trying times. Don’t we?”
“Yes, we do. So, what do you say, Father? Are you in or what?”
There was a long silence, Mueller obviously thinking about Sadie’s offer. It was damn near irresistible as far as I could see. He would either be owed a favor by the dirtiest criminal in Nevada, or he would end her feud with the Rhymer family, which would make his life a hell of a lot easier.
“Look the other way at Emerald Isle and I’ll do it.”
“That’s my business, Father. One of my most lucrative. That’s worth at least two favors.”
The way she spit out Father, meant Sadie was all business now.
“Maybe so, but as far as you or your daughter are concerned, I’m just a man offering safe haven to victims of trafficking. Got it?”
“Fine. You’re still the good priest all of Vegas thinks you are.”
She let out a bitter laugh, and I held my breath to hear the end of the audio.
“Now, what do you say we get out of here?”
The audio ended before I could hear Mueller’s response.
“Wow. Gives some theories a bit more perspective, that’s for fucking sure. Sadie was meeting Mueller for dinner like they were BFFs, and she asked him to off somebody. That wasn’t on my radar. Or the Feds.”
“To be fair,” Beau laughed. “I don’t know what else they were doing if you get my drift. Surveillance followed them to Siren Hotel & Casino but the audio wasn’t relevant so it’s been scrubbed. Officially.” Which meant it was still lurking somewhere in the NSA archives.
“I get it.”
“What are you going to do?”
I stared at Beau from the passenger seat. “That’s the fucking question, ain’t it? First order of business is to figure who the fuck Sadie wanted murdered.” That was likely a long list to start with, but it had to be personal since Jasper wasn’t present.
“I cleaned up the audio the best I could, because I’m not sure that’s what she said, but right now it’s as clean as we could get it.”
“I appreciate it, man. I’ll start looking into this Burns character.” Which meant instead of going back to Maddie, I was headed to the precinct for hours and hours of research. “Thanks, Beau.”
“Not a problem. I expect a wedding invite.”
I smiled at the reminder. “Two weeks from today, Ma’s backyard.”
“Not too soon?”
“When you’re sure, why wait?” He’d find out about the baby soon enough. “If you need anything,” I told him and slipped out of his black sedan and into my car.
I had a hell of a lot of thinking to do. Sadie fucking the priest. Jasper’s offer. The baby. Maddie’s sister.
Aww, fuck it. I headed back home to get lost in my happily ever after.
