I turned to look at Sam questioning and he bent down and kissed my head.
“It's just a precaution. Since none of us are in your last class,” he reassured me, and I understood.
Sylar was in my last class technically.
Lunch went by like a breeze, and soon enough I was sitting in Biology class next to Sam. Class hadnt started yet but Luke came over to my table for a change.
“Hey Lays. It feels like I havent talked to you in ages,” he said.
Always the cheerful Luke.
I smiled as cheerful as possible. “Yeah, its been too long.”
“Umm. So have you heard from Rosetta lately? Wasnt she going on that student exchange thing or something like that?” Luke asked, leaning on my desk.
“Ah, something like that. But I haven't heard from her in a while, she should be home soon though,” I said, hopefully.
I just hoped when she got back that she wouldn't go psycho banana and try to kill me.
“Alright, everybody to their desks,” Mrs. Nelson said, walking into the classroom.
“Later,” Luke said with a smile, walking away.
“Bye.”
Mrs. Nelson, an old short but wise woman, tried to explain her theories on Charles Darwins theory of evolution. It was boring me to death already, so I leaned against Sams arm and tried not to fall asleep.
The bell rung after I started dazing off and I gathered my things in a daze, shoving them in my bag. Sam stood up and offered me his hand.
We walked out of F block and started heading in the direction of the car park. I was looking around me nervously, watching for teachers and oddly enough, there were none in sight.
“Almost there,” Sam said, looking around him cautiously.
We got to the Hummer. Sam unlocked the doors and we got in. I closed my door and looked around me and saw a teacher walking through the car park.
“Teacher,” I whispered to Sam.
He looked where I was looking in an instant and slumped right down in his seat, pulling me down with him.
“Duck down,” he whispered, pulling on my arm more.
I slid all the way down to the floor and waited for my heart rate to slow. It was thumping like I had just robbed a bank or committed murder.
We sat on the floor under the dashboard for a while until Sam decided to check if the coast was clear. He popped his head up slightly and looked around, scanning every area of the car park.
“Let's go,” he said to me, getting up off the floor and sliding back into his seat.
I got up off the floor and sat up in my seat, buckling up. Sam started the car but this time he didn't reeve it, so it purred quietly this time. He pulled out smoothly in one manoeuvre and drove away. I looked behind us as the high school shrunk further back into the distance until it was gone.
“That is a relief,” he said, once the high school was out of sight.
I nodded and hugged myself. I was feeling sort of… alone right now, I knew I wasn't alone but I couldn't help the feeling.
“Are you okay?” Sam asked, looking at me in concern.
I guess somebody could notice, but I did vainly try to hide my discomfort.
“I'm fine,” I said quietly.
He held my hand tightly in one hand, his other on the steering wheel as we cruised in 4th gear.
“It will be okay,” he said, kissing my hand.
“Wouldn't it have just been easier to forge a note to leave early?” I asked, suddenly thinking of it.
Sam smiled. “It would have been too much of a hassle, and this was more of a rush. Not many students try to skip school here anyway.”
It was time to strike, impending doom awaiting us. We were all ready and everyone was starting to head off in their cars towards the outskirts of town.
“You all know the plan?” Jane asked everyone.
I looked around me and everyone nodded fiercely.
“Let's break.”
I was in the Hummer next to Sam. I had bargained with him earlier, and the deal was I would always be with him. He agreed, but I had to meet his terms of if anything went wrong I was to leave him and take cover behind everyone else, no matter what. I didnt like that part, but a deal was a deal, and it seemed like the only one I was getting.
We drove in silence, everyone had decided to take their own vehicles but we were to park down the road from the house we were ambushing. Secretly, I hoped it was the wrong house, but even thinking that, it made me feel bad. I just didn't want anyone hurt.
I looked out the window and all I could see were black blurs passing by. It was really cold tonight so Sam had made sure I was wrapped really well in long black pants, a long sleeved black shirt, a black jumper and white socks with black converse shoes.
“This should not take too long,” Sam said, breaking the silence between us.
“I hope so,” I answered, not turning and meeting his gaze.
I was thinking of dad, would he think I had run off if I die tonight? And maybe if he did, would Adam come back? I wished he would come back. So many times I dreamt of him coming home and how I would run to hug him, breathe in his familiar scent again and feel the hole in my heart heal. But not all of his leaving has been a nightmare, some of it was good, especially the part where I discovered new family and my soulmate. My animus holder.
I looked over at Sam and his gorgeous face. Out of all the wonders in the world I was lucky enough to get this one. He was dressed in black tonight, just like everyone else. It was devised so we could all sneak through the dark with out being spotted easily. Drake had given us a run down of what was happening at night times when he came back this afternoon, so he was here to help us out.
The Hummer started slowing down behind the SUV in a ditch next to the road. My heart started racing and my blood ran thick with fear.
“No matter what happens,” he reminded me sturdily, turning the car off.
“No matter what,” I promised, my throat feeling thick and my head feeling dizzy.
I was close to tears but I sucked them up. He leant over and took my face in his hands. “Forever I will love you.”
“I love you.”
He kissed me softly but urgently, his lips moving slowly with mine and his hands still on either sides of my face, making my breathing erratic.
“Lets go,” he said, after he pulled back and looked at me.
One of my tears had accidentally escaped my eye and he wiped in away gently with his thumb. “It's going to be okay.”
I sniffled but undid my seat belt with a nod and got out, going straight to Sams door and taking his hand firmly.
We walked over to the boot and Sam opened the door to reveal a big gym bag. As he unzipped it I looked around us and saw everybody was getting objects out of their boots or backseats.
I turned back and Sam had a gun in his hand, resembling a rifle of some kind. I blinked in shock.
“What's that?” I asked quietly.
“A Winchester repeater,” he informed me, loading it with a double click.
As he did I heard consecutive amounts of loading and clicking of weapons.
“Is that really necessary?” I asked.
Sams green eyes looked at me softly. “For now it is,” he said, handing me a small gun.
I shook my head, refusing to take it. “Sam.”
“It's a browning; a standard hand gun. I just need you to be able to protect yourself if something were to happen to me. Not taking them last time was a mistake, I won't let it happen again,” he said gently, taking my hand and wrapping it around the cold shiny gun handle.
“It's okay, these bullets are specially designed to penetrate the blood system of a Supernatural being and cut off their ability,” he said, showing me a bullet with a glowing blue fluid inside. “We shoot the gun, and when the bullet enters their body the liquid poison seeps into their blood stream through the semi permeable bullet case. It is like temporary poison, but it's called cut off venom. Be careful though, if you hit a h
uman with these bullets, they will die.”
Everyone was crowded in a circle near the road now with their weapons. We went and joined them after Sam had put a belt full of cut off venom clips around my waist, then a belt of repeater cut off venom ammunition around his waist.
“Everyone follow Drake, Sam and Elane. And if you see anybody, take them out. We cannot risk being caught, the purpose of this attack is to get Tommy and leave,” Jane explained, loud enough for everyone to hear.
Everyone had determined faces as I looked around me in the cold fresh darkness.
“Everyone, masks on,” Jane said, pulling out her mask that only left her light blue eyes uncovered.
Everyone did the same, except Sam put mine over my head for me. He took my hand and we all started jogging towards the old abandoned house like commandos; swift and silent. We had practiced this so many times, so far it felt too easy. I could see lights on inside but nobody was patrolling outside which was strange. It was way too quiet, even in the darkness outside we still should have been able to hear some sort of inside noises.
“Something has happened,” Elane said, running up towards Sam and I.
“What is it?” I asked, wary of what could have changed.
“They are gone,” Elane said, looking into space. “All of them.”
Everyone had stopped and was now looking at Elane in shock.
“How can that be, they were here this morning and werent supposed to leave until tomorrow,” Drake said in disbelief, even under the mask you could tell he was horrified.
Everyone started cursing and I felt Sam let go of my hand and storm off towards the direction of the house.
“Wait,” I called.
I ran up to Sam and took his hand tightly in mine.
“Together, remember?” I reminded him.
We walked off together to check it out and I think everybody started following us as well. We approached a big old looking door, and without releasing my hand, Sam kicked the door down in one strong move of his leg. He walked in, pulling me in safely behind him, only to find Elane was right. Nobody was here, it looked like they had only just cleared out. The lights were still on and the house looked freshly inhabited.
“Shit!” Sam yelled, throwing his gun to the ground angrily.
This shocked me a little because I had never heard him swear before, and I think I watched way too many movies where people throw their gun down and it goes off.
“Search the perimeter, this could be an ambush,” Jane ordered everyone, sending them away.
Everyone spread out and searched the entire house and grounds, with me and Sam awaiting everyones reports downstairs. All the groups came back empty handed so we all sat down in failure on the floor. Sam ripped his mask off and I took mine off too.
“How could this have happened?” he asked himself, frustrated.
Drake came up to us, his face was disgraced. “I apologize. I do not know how this could have occurred. Maybe they knew something was wrong or they decided to depart earlier. But I swear to you both, on my own life, that they were here,” he rushed out.
“It's okay Drake, it is not your fault. We will just have to watch ourselves more carefully. We appreciate your efforts,” Sam said kindly with a small forced smile.
“Thank you. And I just wanted to say on behalf of all the covens and outsiders, we will stay until we have made sure it is safe enough,” Drake promised.
“Thank you my friend,” Sam said.
Drake walked back to his coven and Sam turned to me.
“I will keep you safe. I swear on my life I will die trying,” he said, taking both my hands in his and holding them to his chest to prevent his rage from erupting.
“I trust you,” I said, looking deep into his capturing face.
He pulled me closer to him and I wrapped my arms around his waist, closing my eyes.
No matter where I was, I would always feel safe with him.
19. Snatched
After our attempt at trying to strike the Warrigal coven we had all became very wary yet again. It was like every time we planned something it always failed. Every time we walked someone always looked behind us, every time we sat down we looked around us. It was getting ridiculous, we could never be comfortable anywhere, anytime. All the covens and outsiders had stayed for another week, but nothing had happened. Some of us were starting to think they backed off because of how many of us had gathered. Eventually though, one-by-one, everybody left. The Rafire were the last to leave Forestville. They had grown attached to me and didnt want me to be in danger. But they had to leave sometime, and although I was sad to see them go I was also happy for them to be going back to their normal lives. I had already risked so many peoples lives to start with and I felt responsible for it all. Luckily nobody got hurt, beside Steven, but technically I wasn't there when it happened. So it was just the Archers, Bales and myself again. Hopefully we would never have to hear from the Warrigal coven again, but unfortunately there were no guarantees.
“Finally! I get you all to myself,” Sam exclaimed, sitting down on the couch and pulling me into his chest.
“Umm,” I said, facing his chest.
He rested his chin on my head and started rubbing my back. “Was there anything you wanted to talk about in particular?”
“Maybe,” he said teasingly.
I didn't have to look up at his face to know he was smiling slyly.
“What?” I asked casually.
“You cannot make me tell you,” he said.
I looked up and he was grinning hugely.
I smiled slyly. I had been wanting to see if I could drive him crazy, the way he does to me, but I hadnt tested my theory… yet. Now would be the perfect time I suppose, just so he would relax a little.
“We'll see,” I said, getting up.
“Where are you going?” he asked playfully.
He tone was still joking but I could detect sadness in his voice and smiled.
I stood in front of him with my hands on my hips, thinking what my next move would be. He opened his arms for me so I thought that might help. I sat across his lap and looked into his eyes carefully.
“Would you tell me if I did this?” I asked quietly, putting my hand to the side of his face softly.
He smiled and shook his head.
“What about now?” I asked, my hand sliding down his face slowly to his neck.
He didn't answer but he kept his eyes on mine suspiciously.
“No?” I asked innocently.
I knew I had him for once so I kept going. I slid my hand down the side of his neck and to his chest. He only had a thin cotton shirt on so he could clearly feel my body heat. I kept going and slid my hand further down his fast beating chest. I felt a shudder rip through him when my hand was on his rock hard stomach and thats when he caught my hand. I looked up at his face and he had his eyes closed. I noticed the couch wasnt on the ground and I waited for him to calm down. This was pleasing me, knowing that I could make him do this.
He opened his eyes and the couch slowly lowered back to the ground, his irises faded back to his lovely shade of green. He looked at me in amazement and I bit my bottom lip to keep from smiling.
“I will show you instead,” he said, tightening his arms around me and getting up off the couch, walking towards the stairs.
“You know I have legs?” I said to him, tightening my grip around his neck.
These days he seemed determined to carry me everywhere, but I felt like a little child when he did.
“I know,” he simply answered with a smile.
I rolled my eyes and just looked to where he was walking.
The stairs had gotten fixed a couple of days ago, but Sam was still superstitious so he always was on guard while walking up them. I was here when the builders had come in, and the look on their faces was priceless, they looked so dumbfounded I couldn't help but walk into another room and laugh to myself. We had gotten one of the Archers acquaintances who was an earth element
to fill in the huge hole before the builders did come though. They didnt ask any questions which sort of surprised me, even though it looked like the stairs had been completely wiped out. But, they did re-build the spiralling staircase almost identical to the other ones but a slightly different colour, so I cant say they didnt do a good job.
Sam jogged up them easily, two at a time. I was barely jostled when he was jogging, and when we reached the top of the spiralling stairs he put me down and he ran one of his hands through his brown hair.
“You are amazing,” I said, marvelling at him.
Everything about him was amazing. His personality, sweetness, his face, body, strength, power, everything.
“Compared to you, I am nowhere near amazing,” he said, smiling.
“Still biased ay?” I asked as we walked down the hallway, rolling my eyes.
“I am not biased. If you could see what I see in you, you would know what I am talking about.”
We had come to a stop in the quiet living room upstairs. “If you could see what I see in you, you would know what I mean,” I said to him.
He thought about that for a second before answering. “Touché,” he said with a smile. “How about we call it a truce. We both think each other is amazing, right?”
“Right,” I agreed, stepping forward and wrapping my arms around his neck.
“Truce?”
“Truce,” I agreed with a smile. “So what are you going to show me?” I asked.
“Come with me,” he said ecstatically.
“I would love to,” I said.
“Right,” he said with a grin.
I let my arms drop so he held only one of my hands and he led me through his door, locking it behind him. He let go of my hand and went over to his desk. I walked over to his bed in his huge room and sat down on the side, waiting for him to join me. He finally came over to me, plopping down next to me. He had his drawing book in his hand when he looked at me.
“This is the first time I actually had something to inspire me to draw,” he murmured, holding my gaze.
