“You found me,” I somehow murmured.
“I know. I promise everything will be okay now, I promise.” I wanted to cry.
He was mine, he found and saved me.
I felt him lay me down on something soft and then I drifted into a deep sleep soon after that, in my own piece of mind. My family was safe and I was safe, I could fall asleep safely in Sams presence; the safest place I could be in the whole universe.
****
“Sam,” I croaked, opening my eyes from sleeping.
I took a deep breath and rubbed my eyes with the back of my hands. I sat up slowly and winced, my hands flying to my side, I lifted my shirt up and poked at the bandage.
“Ouch,” I said, flinching away sharply.
I heard a crashing noise come from outside the door and I hopped out of bed quietly. I tip toed over to the door and turned the cold metal handle slowly, then I popped my head outside to take a look.
“Sam,” I whispered, looking around the upstairs living room.
I took a step out the door before I heard another crash and realised it came from the built-in bathroom in the bedroom.
I stopped and took one last curious glance around the upstairs living room before closing the door and walking back into the room. I walked slowly over to the bathroom door and turned the handle, swinging the door open. It was very warm inside the steam filled room, and Sam was there in front of the mirror with a towel over his head, drying his hair roughly. He only had blue jeans on which were riding low on his hips and no shirt.
I sighed out of relief, my nightmare really was over.
I watched him pull the towel off his head and he looked at himself in the mirror, soon realizing I was standing behind him in the doorway.
“Hey you,” I said warmly with a smile.
He smiled my favourite smile and turned around to face me, his irises turned black and light was being projected from his palms.
I was suddenly being pulled slowly towards him as he was walking towards me slowly. When I reached him I placed my hands on his damp broad shoulders and stared into his eyes that had gone back to his very light green colour. I cupped one of my hands to his smooth but hard face and he breathed out loudly.
“I'm sorry,” he said sadly.
“For what?” I asked, my brow creasing in confusion.
“It didn't protect you. I was weak and they took you and—” I cut him off by placing my hand over his mouth.
I didn't want to hear him tare himself down, it was painstaking when he did.
“No, Sam. I'm sorry. I didn't listen to you. You couldn't have helped me because you were blinded. So… I'm sorry,” I said.
I saw he wasnt going to apologize anymore so I let my hand slip away from his mouth.
“I'm sorry,” I murmured again, letting my hands relax to his shoulders.
He took my face between his hands gently and leant down slowly, his warm full lips touched down on mine and I felt like I was home. His hands slid to my waist and I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling myself closer. I never wanted to part from him again. His lips were no longer urgent or sad, he was enthusiastic which gave me hope that things were going to get better. This is where I wanted to be, this was better than any heaven, and without him it would be my living nightmare.
After our peaceful reunion, Sam put a shirt on and we made our way downstairs.
“I expect you want to know what the date is?” Sam asked me after a minute of silence.
“Not in particular,” I answered with a small smile.
“Oh,” he said surprised, looking at me.
“I do want to know how you found me though.”
He stopped walking and I looked at him, his face was thoughtful.
“Come with me,” he said, pulling me back in the direction we just came from.
We walked into his bedroom yet again, but this time we went out onto the balcony, just in time to see the sun set behind the trees.
“You want to know how I found you,” he said to himself, looking out into the sun.
I faced him, his eyes were glistening and his soft half damp brown hair was swaying in the gentle breeze.
“When they took you right out of my arms, I couldn't do a thing, I felt so weak and disgraceful, especially after how many times I said I would protect you,” he said, and I could hear his voice was strained.
I hugged his side in reassurance and signalled for him to carry on.
“James then guided me back behind everyone until my vision returned. Without my vision I am basically powerless and reckless, everyone knows that. I got up and ran back to the Hummer, leaving everyone behind. I was not in control of my temper at this time, but every one of the covens and outsiders on our side followed soon after me. I searched for you for two days, and I finally was convinced that driving around pointlessly wouldnt help me, so I went back to the house ashamed and abash,” he said, his arms crushing me to him more. “I finally got a lead after hours of interrogating beings who we had captured, and after I got those three little words out of his mouth, I was off. I guess you could say I tracked you down using everything I could. I finally pulled up out front of a fancy building and stormed in there with no back up, and I just knew where to go.
“I took out everyone in my way and anyone who tried to stop me from getting to you which took me a good 10 minutes. Then when I got to you I was too late, but luckily he has always been a bad aim and missed your chest completely. Even when I didnt have to fight off every Dark coven member myself, I was still too late to save you. I took down the two men by Sylars sides in a matter of seconds and then I fought him which wasnt very hard because you had already drained him.” He had stopped talking.
I was already engrossed in his side of the story, he couldnt stop now.
“Why didn't you kill him?” I whispered.
He took a deep breath and started to stroke the side of my face with his thumb, as if to reassure himself that I was real. “I saw you first when I entered that room, and it felt like my heart was ripped in two. I got upset, I wanted to kill him, but I didnt want to live with the fact of knowing I was inhumane again. I promised myself and my family years ago I would not take another life again, and I have been true to my word. I didn't want to give Sylar the pleasure of breaking my promise.
“After I decided against taking his life, I went to you and you weren't breathing. Your heart was not beating and you had lost too much blood through your injuries. There was only one thing I could think of that I hoped could save you. That was to force energy out of myself and into you, in hopes that your heart would start beating.
“It worked,” he said, lastly and final before smiling.
“It beats for only you, you know that right? I love you,” I said, closing my eyes and pulling myself closer to him.
“I love you too, and one day you will only be mine,” he murmured into my hair.
My eyes flew open. That confused me, I thought I was his already. “What do you mean?” I asked into his shoulder.
“Nothing,” was all he said in response, his hands rubbing my back soothingly.
I stopped worrying. I could finally relax because nobody was coming after me anymore. Sam and I could finally live our lives.
I was sitting at the Archer family dinner table and we were all talking happily, we were all carefree.
“So did the council ever get Tommy?” I asked, my curiosity getting the best of me.
“Of course,” Summer answered with a smile.
“And all the Dark covens?” I asked again.
“They were all apprehended and taken to London headquarters to be incarcerated in the specially designed prison,” Jane said with a warm smile on her face.
“And things can go back to normal?”
“Yep, well as normal as things can get around here anyway,” Fredric said.
“Thank the goddess for that. And Summer and Peter are suppose to be in retirement?” Sam said rhetorically with a laugh, wrapping his arm around my shoulders and
making everyone at the table laugh.
“Well, school tomorrow,” James said. “And I have some business to take care of,” he finished, cracking his knuckles.
“What, hitting on Rosetta?” Elane asked, throwing her head back and laughing.
I started laughing too so I hid my face in Sams shoulder.
“Hey, she wants me,” James said, sticking up for himself.
That only made everyone in the room laugh louder, including James himself.
Dinner carried on like this, peaceful and not a worry in the room. I decided to stay over the Archers again because dad wouldnt be back until early Monday morning and it was only Thursday night, but I did decide to give dad a call, just to hear his voice again.
I walked out of Sams built-in bathroom and he was waiting in his bed for me, and as usual with no shirt on which gave me the chills. I jumped up on the bed and climbed over to the middle to lie under the covers with him in the dark.
“This is nice,” I said when we were settled in the quiet room.
“Umm,” he agreed, kissing me softly and wrapping me in his arms.
“Do you want to know what got me through when I was in that room?” I asked after a moment of silence.
“What?” He started stroking my face softly.
“You. Knowing that I was going to see you again,” I answered, kissing his jaw.
“I am going to have to make sure you carry a gun around full time,” he said jokingly.
I smiled, kissing his neck.
“I love you my amator, sleep now,” he whispered into my hair, smoothing it back with his gentle hands.
Everything about him was important to me, everything. He always gave me that sense of security I could always trust.
“I love you too,” I murmured, closing my eyes.
I grasped his hand and turned on my side so I was facing him while I slept. His warm body was against mine, comforting me while I drifted to sleep, his thumb rubbing soothing circles on the side of my arm. And thats where I lay, facing Sam, never actually leaving him and sleeping peacefully after my nightmare.
Epilogue: Promises
Days went by and passed normally, weekends were even better because I got to spend time with my family, and weekday afternoons I spent with dad, so it all worked out well. Sam and my relationship had grown so much stronger in a matter of days and we were soon inseparable, it would take a crane to tear us apart. Things were much better though, even at school I was closer to some of the girls I hadn't really known before. Life could never have been this perfect.
“Sam,” I called, walking through the kitchen doorway.
I entered the kitchen and saw James and Rosetta making out near the backdoor.
“Whoa! Guys I'm sorry, just passing through,” I said, my hand covering the side of my face, blocking out my view of them.
I kept walking to the ballroom door and opened it quickly, rushing through it and closing it behind me. I saw Sam vastly turn around and face me while he was leaning inconspicuously against the piano.
“What are you doing?” I asked playfully, narrowing my eyes at him.
“Nothing,” he answered slowly, a smile spreading across his face.
I walked over to him slowly and took his hands, smiling cheekily. “Shall we dance?” I asked him.
He smiled and bit his bottom lip, trying to hide a smile. “I thought you disliked dancing?”
“Oh I do… unless its with you,” I said, pulling him over to the middle of the floor.
His irises turned black while he smiled and the stereo system turned on, releasing the song Kiss me by six pence none the richer. He twirled me around and into him, then we danced around the ballroom floor elegantly.
“Can you promise me something?” he asked.
I looked into his eyes curiously but I considered all the things he could ask of me, and I would surely not regret this.
“Anything,” I finally decided.
“Will you wait for me?”
I was confused by his request, what would I have to wait for and why?
“I don't understand,” I said.
“If something were to ever happen and I would have to be away from you, would you wait for me?” he tried to explain.
I thought through his request. Why would I not wait, I was nothing without him and he was the centre of my world, I would do anything for him.
“Yes, I would wait for however long you needed,” I decided.
“Do you promise?” he murmured, his eyes boring into mine.
“I promise.”
“Thank you,” he said with a sigh.
He pulled me closer to him and kissed my neck softly, his lips parting slightly so I could feel his warm breath on my skin.
I shivered involuntarily again and moved my hands to his hair, this was becoming routine for whenever he decided to act this way.
There was something still burning in the back of my mind, I needed to ask him before I was no longer coherent and had forgotten. “Sam, can you promise me something in return?” I asked.
He pulled back slightly and touched his forehead to mine.
“Anything you want, I would give you anything you wanted,” he said.
I pulled one side of my mouth up. “Never leave me,” I said softly.
That stunned him a little but he did answer. “I would never, it would destroy both of us. Therefore I will stay with you forever, unless its out of dire necessity,” he promised. “You have my word on that,” he said, kissing my lips gently.
“Forever,” I repeated.
“And ever,” he said between kisses.
I smiled under his lips.
“That sounds good to me,” I said, pulling him closer as we danced with our bodies pressed together and our foreheads touching.
****
All four Archers, the two Bales, Rosetta and myself walked through the front gates of the high school. Sams arm draped around me, Hunters arm around Jane, James arm around Rosetta who had recently gotten together, and Fredric and Elane walking next to each other. We were complete, we were a family and no one could break our bond. I wasnt quite so sure about Rosetta but she was definitely growing on me I had to admit.
Things were cooling off and going back to normal, although we were all still exhausted, we were happy. Soon my dad would be home after the weekend and I would spend time with him, but for now I would just enjoy my time with my family who will always be here for me.
“To family,” James said, raising his glass of wine.
“To family!” we all said, raising our wine glasses as well.
It was around seven at night and it was a Friday, so we all decided to have a little rejoicing party in the ballroom.
I smiled and looked around at my family as we drunk our white wine. I loved everyone of them.
“Lets dance,” Fredric said, coming and taking my hand and pulling me over to dance with him.
Someone turned the stereo on to a fast paced party song but nobody minded, we were too focused on having a good time.
As I was dancing around the room with Fredric, laughing, I observed everyone, but my eyes rested on Sam; he was dancing with Elane. He noticed my gaze had rested on him and he smiled breathtakingly and I smiled back, knowing things were perfect.
Sam and I ended up performing the song I wish I was a punk rocker by Sandi Thom on the piano in front of everyone with me mainly singing because I had to know the words and Sam had to have heard the song to play it. We did pretty well by the end of it if I say so myself. We even got talked into doing an encore of Follow me by Uncle Kracker, which was beautiful according to Jane, Elane and Summer. Although James had to make a joke of it, he just had to throw flowers at us while fake crying like an idiot, the big fool. Summer did rouse him for using the flowers from one of her vases though. Ha ha.
The night dragged on like that, dancing, talking and laughing amongst ourselves, it was truly a night to remember. Even Peter and Summer were partying out with us teenagers like t
here was no tomorrow.

I went to sleep early in the morning with Sam, most of the others went to sleep early in the morning too but we were the last ones to fall asleep. Everyone was that tired it was like we had all just collapsed into our beds fully dressed.
I opened my eyes tiredly and stretched, encountering Sam as usual. I made my way closer to him, I felt him move and his arms encircled me willingly.
“Morning,” I said with a yawn.
“Good morning,” he said.
No matter how long he slept his voice always sounded unruffled.
“Is there anything planned for today?” I asked, my eyes still closed.
“Not that I know of,” he responded.
“Good,” I said, opening my eyes and kissing his bare shoulder.
I saw him smile and he pulled me on top of him in one fluid movement, he opened his eyes and they were as tender as his smile.
“Do you want to know a secret?” he asked.
“Um… only if you want to tell me,” I finally answered, my voice slightly shaky from the sudden proximity.
I waited but he didnt say anything, the suspense was killing me.
“I am actually… six foot four,” he finally said, a cheeky smile spreading across his face.
I sighed in relief and kissed him. “Give me a heart attack,” I said between kisses.
He chuckled but still held me to him more, his big warm hands covering the small of my back.
“Breakfast,” Jane called, knocking on the door.
“Yes. Breakfast sounds good right about now,” I said to Sam, a smile was spreading across his face. “What?” I asked quietly.
He reached his hand up to stroke the side of my face softly. “Five months ago I would never have believed I would be here, with you in my arms,” he murmured. “But I am glad that Elane met you, I am extraordinarily thankful that she introduced you to me and I am happy that you walked through the garage door that night,” he said.
“Well, I guess we owe Elane big time,” I said thoughtfully.
“We should go thank her,” he suggested, looking towards the door.
“Yeah,” I agreed, jumping up off of him and crawling off the bed. “I call dibs on the bathroom first,” I said, briskly walking into his bathroom.
