“Nova, Serrina go through the front door. Make an appearance, let people see you here. Brax and I will go through the back.”

Without a word the two girls strolled past me and went inside. I didn’t like sending them in alone but there was no way Alataris would attack in public with so many witnesses. Even he wouldn’t risk the wrath of The Fallen. Brax and I walked around the side of the house. I wove around couples kissing in the dark and others just chatting.

When I came to the back of the house I peered in through the window and only found a destroyed kitchen. Just as I was about to turn back two girls walked into the room, one I’d seen before. Elle? I think. She was small with light blond hair, a round face, and wide light green eyes. When Brax leaned in next to me his eyes were locked on her. I nudged him with my elbow. “Why don’t you go in first?”

“Da, I go in now.” He turned and opened the back door leaving me alone to watch the other.

I sucked in a deep breath, she was utterly lovely. With long, straight, dark hair that fell in wild waves down to her elbows. She fidgeted with the hem of her skirt and ran her hands over her burgundy tank top she’d covered with a black leather jacket. She glanced around looking at every door in sight. I snickered. Not a party girl. In another time, another world, if I wasn’t who I was I’d want to get to know this girl.

She was beautiful in a non-conventional way and her style stood out to me. A mix of bad ass with earth child. Along with her full lips, heart-shaped face and slender build. Breathtaking. I should’ve been searching for the Witch Queen, I should’ve been in the middle of that party. Yet I hesitated, wanting to watch her for just a moment longer. My heart slammed in my chest and sweat gathered in the palm of my hands.

Then she lifted her hand and adjusted her jacket. Her slim shoulders popped into view and my breath left me in a rush. There on her pale skin was a small Mark I’d recognize from a mile away. In an instant everything changed.

  It was her.

  The Siphon Witch.

  The Queen of Essence.

  Zinna Heart.

I reached for the door and tried to brace myself.

Well…this is going to be fun.

It’s time to claim my power…

All my life I’ve lived under lock and key, always following the strict rules my mother set for me. A week before my sixteenth birthday I sneak out of my house and discover why. Turns out I am not just a normal teenager. I’m a witch blessed with a gift someone wants to steal from me.

And not just anyone…the King Alataris.

For a thousand years the people of Evermore have suffered under his tyranny. The Mark on my shoulder says I am the Siphon Witch, one of five Witch Queens fated to come together and finally destroy him. The only thing keeping Evermore safe is the Stone that shields the witch kingdoms from Alataris’s magic…and now he’s found a way to steal it. Suddenly, I’m sent on a quest to find the ancient spell to protect the Stone. My only hope for surviving is through my strikingly beautiful and immensely powerful Guardian, Tucker. The laws of Evermore state that love between us is strictly forbidden, and it appears I’m the only one willing to give in to the attraction…

When the quest turns more dangerous than expected I realize I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing. But I have to learn my magic fast because If King Alataris gets his hands on me he’ll steal my magic and my life…but if he gets his hands on that Stone we all die.

Megan Montero was born and raised a sassy Jersey girl. After devouring series like the Immortals After Dark, the Arcana Chronicles, Harry Potter and Mortal Instruments she decided then and there that she would write her own series. When she’s not putting pen to paper you can find her cuddled up under a thick blanket (even in the summer) with a book in her hands. When she’s not reading or writing you can find her playing with her dogs, watching movies, listening to music or moving the furniture around her house…again. She loves finding magic in all aspects of her life and that’s why she writes Urban Fantasy.
