Garrant

He smiled. “Well, we’ll start with a family tattoo. See what you think. Then if you like it…”
“What, keep going until I’ve caught up with you?”
“If you want. I think you’d be sexy as hell covered in ink. But then, you’re sexy as hell now. So no pressure.”
“Hm,” Nell said. “Flattery will get you everywhere.”
“Duly noted,” he said, shifting them so they were lying side by side, his arm wrapped tight around her.
“I’m so glad to have found you,” he murmured into her hair, already nearly asleep.
“I’m so glad you found us, too.”
As she lay there, drifting, Nell considered the fateful circumstances that had brought them together. Or perhaps not so fateful. Garrant was Allendi’s friend, after all. And Allendi, as she’d repeatedly asserted throughout the last two weeks, was Nell’s family. Even if the Olympia hadn’t happened, if Garrant’s injury had prevented him coming, or if she’d decided to stay home, eventually, one way or another, they would have bumped into each other sooner or later.
Or maybe that made it even more like fate. An inevitability. Garrant would argue in that direction, she thought. His people believed their Goddess had a path in mind for them from birth.
Nell wasn’t a big believer in higher powers, but she liked that idea. Especially when Garrant’s path always led to her.
Whatever the answer was, one thing was certain. Any paths ahead of them from now on, they’d take them together.
As a family.
THE STORY CONTINUES…
HEAT BLOOMED in her body in response to his gaze…
Marta Kowalczyk should be on the Olympia with her friends. Instead, she’s babysitting her father, who’s fresh out of prison and resisting Marta’s attempts to keep him on the straight and narrow. She could do without any other frustrations in her life, including helping the grumpy head of Station security, Tarkken, who, for some reason, can’t stand the sight of her.
Tarkken H’Arran would love to put violent anti-Intergalactic Community extremist, Nick Gillespie, behind bars before everyone returns from the Olympia. But to do it, he’s going to need Marta’s help. The only problem? Marta’s emotions project far louder than everyone else’s and play havoc with Tarkken’s Empathy. Being around her is almost intolerable. So why can’t he get her off his mind?
