I breathed in his masculine scent and just enjoyed having him back by my side for a few moments. I couldn’t believe I’d almost cut him out of my life. I’d been such an idiot!
Wyatt gave me a final squeeze and then went to join his team. They still had work to do, after all, and I took the opportunity to rejoin my own friends and check on them.
We stood and watched in awe as the men of BPS took care of business. Brock called in the situation to the police as the other men kept an eye on the confused and still furious Mr. Hall.
Within minutes, the man was in custody, and being led away in handcuffs. I’d never been happier to see law enforcement at work than I was in that moment.
One by one, the couples left, saying their goodbyes with hugs or slaps on the back for a job well done. Soon, it was just me and Wyatt.
My heart was pounding for a very different reason than it had been when Frank was holding me at gunpoint. Wyatt’s eyes locked on mine and I felt a jolt of electricity course through me.
I didn’t know where things would go from here for us. But I did know one thing. I didn’t want to be without Wyatt right then.
I centered myself with a deep breath. “I’d really like it if you’d come home with me.”
Wyatt’s face lit up. “And I can’t think of a single other place I’d rather be, so let’s go.”
Chapter Eight
Wyatt
Taking out the psycho who’d been holding Luna at gunpoint was the second most satisfying thing I’d ever done in my entire life.
But it was pulling her into my arms afterward that took first place. Having her soft curves pressed into my body left me feeling more pleased than ever before.
And when I heard that she wanted me to come home with her, I’d damn near shouted with pleasure, but I somehow managed to play it somewhat cool.
Of course, I’d accepted, and after we’d talked to the police and the officials from All Saints about everything that had gone down, I led Luna to my Camaro and settled her into the passenger seat.
“I hope Chrissy doesn’t get jealous,” I said with a laugh before firing up the car’s powerful engine. “She’s not used to me having another woman in my life.”
Luna gave me the gorgeous smile I’d come to love and her musical laughter filled the Camaro. I was so happy in that moment, I felt as if I might burst.
Even though Luna and I had become friends and spent a lot of time together, it had almost always been at the Cloud Nine Tavern, and not at one of our places.
But she only lived a few doors down from Hunter and Amelia, so I knew where to point Chrissy. We made the short drive in friendly silence. It was like we didn’t need words to be comfortable with each other.
I could feel the heat of Luna’s eyes on me during most of the drive. By the time we pulled into her driveway, I was in the midst of an active battle to keep the physical sign of my excitement from popping up to say hello.
I’d worked too hard to get closer to the woman I loved to ruin it with a rogue erection. I wanted Luna to lead the way to our future together. I wanted her to want me as much as I wanted her.
And I knew the first step was going to have to be confessing my true feelings for her. I just hoped things didn’t go sideways like they had earlier in the lab when she’d pushed me away.
Luna gave me a quick tour of her home, which was as eccentric and beautiful as she was, with bright colors and artwork everywhere.
“I want to show you my favorite place,” she said to me with a smile. “I think you will enjoy it as much as I do.”
My heart was pumping in overdrive as Luna led me out into the backyard. She wanted to share the things she loved with me. That had to be a good sign, right?
I sucked in a sharp breath as we walked into a garden that was so lush it was like a jungle in the middle of our small Colorado town.
There was green as far as the eye could see, and there were vines climbing over the privacy fence that encircled Luna’s backyard.
“This is my personal paradise,” Luna said as she turned in a slow circle with her arms spread wide. “I don’t let just anyone in here. Amelia’s the only other person who’s ever seen it.”
She looked breathtaking in the evening light and I couldn’t have taken my eyes off her if I wanted to, which I most definitely did not.
“It’s perfect. And so are you.” My roughly whispered words did nothing to conceal my longing for her. “I love you, Luna. I always have.”
Her melodic laughter washed over me and light from the moon filtered through the greenery to show me the big smile she wore.
“Oh, Wyatt, I know you do,” Luna said in a soft voice as she stripped off her shirt and tossed it to one side. “Now, come on over here and prove it to me.”
Chapter Nine
Luna
The whirlwind of emotions I’d experienced in such an incredibly short amount of time crashed through me as I bared myself to Wyatt.
I’d finally let myself go completely and gave my head permission to realize what my heart had already accepted.
“I love you, too,” I told him as I took off the rest of my clothing. “I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to see that.”
Wyatt growled low in his throat. “You don’t know how happy hearing those words makes me, Luna, but I don’t want anyone other than me seeing you naked.”
I laughed as his eyes darted around my backyard garden. “Nobody can see us out here but the moon and stars.”
“Oh, Luna, you’re my moon and stars,” Wyatt rumbled, and closed the gap between us with a few steps. “And I’m going to spend the rest of my life worshipping you.”
And then, he claimed my mouth with his, lighting me up from the inside, and leaving us both gasping when we came up for air.
I moaned at the feeling of his desire for me pressed up against my thigh. I couldn’t wait any longer to have his bare flesh pressed to mine.
“Take off your clothes, Wyatt, and be fully in this moment with me.”
Those whispered words were all it took to have him shed every stitch he was wearing like a second skin. I groaned at the sight of him standing naked in front of me.
I’d already known Wyatt had the body of a Greek god. But seeing it in all of its glory was something else. He was perfect in every way and I gasped at the size of every part of him.
“Take me in the grass,” I whispered into his ear as I wrapped my hand around his throbbing length. “Make us one, right here, in front of all of nature’s splendor.”
Wyatt’s eyes were glassy with desire as he scooped me up into his arms, making me feel as light and delicate as any flower, before laying me down gently on the lawn.
He pressed kisses into my neck and chest that sent tingles flying up and down my limbs, and then sucked my nipple in between his lips, leaving me vibrating with my need for him.
“You taste just as good as you look, my moon,” Wyatt growled into my flesh as he worked his way down to the wet heat at the very center of me. “And I bet this tastes even better.”
I’d thought hearing him call me his moon was the best thing I’d ever encountered, but then Wyatt licked my slick lips open and sucked my clit into his mouth.
Every nerve ending in my body caught on fire as he licked and nibbled the entrance to my core. My back arched and I grabbed handfuls of grass as I moaned long and loud.
When he slipped his finger inside of me and started working it in and out in the same rhythm as his tongue on my clit, it felt like I’d pass out from the pure pleasure of it.
But I didn’t want to miss a moment of Wyatt loving me. I wanted so much more of him. I wanted everything he had to offer. And I wanted to give him my all in return.
I writhed on the soft grass of my favorite place in the world as I came. I was blinded by the sheer ecstasy that coursed through me like a bolt of lightning.
My eyes flew open and I saw the stars dancing over our tangled bodies. I knew I had to share the overwhelming delight of wh
at I was feeling with the man I loved.
So, I grabbed Wyatt by his mouthwateringly well-muscled shoulders, pulled him up to press a kiss to his lips, and then pushed on his arms to flip him over.
As I reveled in the taste of myself on his mouth, I pressed him down onto his back, climbed on top of him, and lowered myself onto his pulsing stiffness with a satisfied moan.
Wyatt’s groan as I sank down onto him was almost a howl. I took the time to smile and kiss him again. And then I started working my hips in tight circles.
Wyatt grabbed my thighs and thrust himself up into me, making us both cry out, and I felt him slide all the way home. I could feel another orgasm building and I leaned in to be as close to him as I could when I climaxed.
My hair was a shining red curtain around us as I felt my innermost walls tighten around Wyatt. Then I was falling, crashing, drowning in the deepest connection I’d ever felt with another human being.
Wyatt practically roared as he came and filled me with his seed, his soul, his everything. I slumped over onto him, totally spent, and utterly content.
I was a panting, sweating, and smiling puddle of satisfaction as Wyatt pulled me into his arms.
And for the next few moments, I just enjoyed being under the stars with the friend who’d turned out to be the love of my life.
Chapter Ten
Wyatt
I’d never felt more complete than I did with Luna laying naked in my arms. There in the grass, under the stars, I was fully alive for the first time in my life.
A soft night breeze cooled our flesh and our hearts beat as one as they slowed. I pulled Luna tighter against my chest and pressed a tender kiss into her temple.
“That was amazing, my moon,” I murmured. “Thank you for sharing all of yourself with me.”
“I love it when you call me that,” Luna said as she ran her fingers through my chest hair. “And I should be thanking you, Wyatt.”
Luna lifted herself up and looked deep into my eyes.“You saved my life and broke down my walls. You’ve completed me, simple as that.”
My heart swelled with pride and pleasure. “I’d do anything for you, lovely Luna. I belong to you, and you alone.”
She smiled and heaved a sigh. “I just wish I hadn’t been so stubborn. I wish I’d let you in from the start.”
“The timing doesn’t matter, my moon. What matters is that we’re together, here and now.”
Luna lowered herself back into my arms and laid her head on my chest. “You’re right, my love, but I still think you deserve to know why I pushed you away.”
I ran my fingers through Luna’s long red hair as she told me the story of having her heart broken long ago.
I was filled with sadness and anger at the thought of her being made to feel like anything less than the Goddess she was in my eyes.
“I was young and dumb,” Luna said in a trembling voice as she finished her tale of heartbreak.
I let the details of what she’d told me slip away. I didn’t want to think of her ever having been with another man, let alone one who’d shattered her heart.
“None of that matters anymore,” I said in a firm voice. “You’re mine now. You never have to worry about being hurt again.”
I could feel Luna smile against my chest. But there was also the feeling of a tear sliding down my skin. I couldn’t stand the thought of her crying for any reason.
I knew right then what I had to do. Not just to make Luna feel better, but to also ensure I wouldn’t lose her, which I couldn’t bear the thought of now or ever.
I sat up slowly, even though my pulse was racing, and I kept Luna securely cradled in my arms as I moved. I didn’t stop until we were both on our feet.
Luna looked confused and I kissed her softly to help reassure her that everything was alright. And then I sank down on one knee in front of her.
“Luna Walker, I’ve loved you from the very first moment I saw you,” I began as I locked my eyes on hers. “I want nothing more in this life than to keep you safe and happy. Will you marry me and spend the rest of your days by my side?”
I watched Luna’s confusion melt into amazement, and before I knew what was happening, she’d thrown herself back into my arms, knocking us down onto the lush grass once more.
Luna’s musical laughter danced through the trees and bathed me in a peaceful pleasure I’d never felt before.
I fell even deeper into it when she stopped long enough to speak the words that made me the happiest man in the world.
“Yes, Wyatt, a thousand times yes! Marrying you is the thing I want most in this life.”
I roared with joy and crushed my mouth to Luna’s. I couldn’t have asked for anything more than having her in my arms for the rest of my life. I’d finally made her all mine and fulfilled my greatest wish.
We laid there in satisfied silence for a few moments, caught up in each other, and just enjoyed being exactly where we both wanted to be from now until forever.
Suddenly, I laughed out loud, and Luna lifted herself up to look at me. She asked what the hell was so funny and I shook my head and pressed a kiss onto the tip of her beautiful nose.
“Who would have thought it would be easier to get you to accept a marriage proposal than my bodyguard services?”
Luna’s mouth dropped open and she just stared at me for a few seconds. Then her laughter joined mine and she gave me a teasing slap on the arm.
“I can’t help having a natural stubborn streak,” she said as her gorgeous green eyes danced and twinkled in the moonlight. “Just be glad I was able to get past it for the truly important stuff!”
“Oh, I’m more glad than anyone could ever know, my moon,” I said and pulled her back into my embrace. “I would rather have you and your stubborn streak than anyone or anything else in the universe.”
Luna snuggled against my side and slid one of her juicy thighs over mine. Just the feel of her creamy flesh rubbing up my leg was enough to have me at full salute and ready to ravage her once more.
“Then I think you better prove it to me again,” Luna whispered and licked my earlobe, sending shivers down my spine and making me growl with desire.
“I can’t think of anything I’d rather be doing,” I told her as I brought my hand between her legs and made her moan. “This night, and for all the rest of them…”
Epilogue
Luna
Ten years of wedded bliss with Wyatt followed that first passionate night in the garden. Oh, we’d had some ups and downs like any couple, but we were still going strong and more in love than ever.
Wyatt had proved himself to be my perfect partner in every way. Like true soulmates, we were rarely away from each other for more than a few hours at a time, and we made each other better, more complete people.
After Wyatt saved me from Frank Hall and proposed to me, our little Colorado town had gone back to being the quiet, peaceful place Scarlet Springs had once been.
Everyone rested easier knowing the men of Bourne Protective Services were there to help the local police department keep us safe and sound. And I couldn’t be more proud of knowing my husband was a member of the BPS team.
There were times when I felt like I should pinch myself to make sure my wonderful life wasn’t a dream. I had everything I’d ever wanted, and then some, and I truly felt like the luckiest woman in the world.
Not only did I have the love of my life always by my side, but we’d had two boys who were the center of our universe. Finn and Rowan were as sweet, smart, and handsome as their father and I adored them.
I gave a happy sigh as I finished up my morning meditation in the backyard sanctuary where Wyatt and I had first come together as one.
I was just stretching and about to open my eyes when I felt my husband’s presence and smiled. “Is it time to leave, my love?”
“How do you always know it’s me, even with your eyes closed, my moon?”
I stood up and stepped into Wyatt’s embrace. “Your heart calls out
to mine, of course, and then there’s the energy radiating from another part of you.”
I reached down and rubbed the growing bulge in Wyatt’s pants. He moaned low in his throat and I gave him a final teasing squeeze and smile before pressing a kiss to his lips and stepping away.
“Too bad everyone is expecting us,” Wyatt growled and slapped me on the ass. “Or else I’d energize the hell out of you.”
I laughed and winked. “Just you wait until tonight, after we’re back home, and we’ve put the boys to bed.”
“I guess I can be patient,” Wyatt sighed and took my hand in his. “Although it’s still hard to keep my hands off you, Mrs. Jacobs.”
“The feeling is mutual, Mr. Jacobs,” I replied as we made our way into the house. “But we don’t want to keep the others waiting. Our annual picnic is a tradition, after all.”
I called out to the boys, grabbed the bag of food I’d prepared, and then Wyatt, Finn, Rowan, and I all climbed into Chrissy the Camaro and headed for the park where we’d be spending the day with our friends.
Although, after a decade together, the women of All Saints Hospital and the men of BPS had become more like a family. Especially with the addition of all of our children.
Lily and Brock had two girls and a little boy. Blair and Mason had a set of identical twin boys. And Amelia and Hunter had a little girl. When we all got together, it really was like we were one big happy family.
“I’m glad the weather cooperated,” Wyatt said as he pointed his Camaro toward Scarlet Springs Park. “I thought it might rain on us for a while there.”
“I had a feeling Mother Nature wouldn’t let that happen,” I said with a serene smile. “I was sending sunny vibes out into the universe as hard as I could.”
