Jigsaw Jill

All of a sudden I stopped talking, I had just given what amounted to an order to guys that were two or three levels above me and my face went red with embarrassment. Behind me I heard the voice of authority repeat the order I had given. I slowly turned and said, "I guess this is the best time to give my report to you Lt."

Teddy was wrong, one of Jane's friends had know about the fake engagement and when questioned, Teddy's name came up. We asked her about where Jane was living before moving in with John. "She was paying the rent on an apartment that a cousin of hers had. He had to move to a new job and she took up the payments. Her credit score would not let her rent one under her name." Well the .C.S.I. tore the place apart and found one set of fingerprints that were in just about every part of the place. Whoever it was had been over there dozens of time. They were on file and we had a name. Teddy was living with his mother and there was no one at home. A neighbor said his mother had died and didn't know much more.

Searching the house turned up all the names of the women murdered except Eva. They were part of Teddy's life. The escort service did have Teddy's credit card on file, so that made it all of the murders tied back to Teddy. But where was he?

  Teddy Brooks:

It was a good thing that mother wanted to be buried back home. When I drove back to LA, I saw the cars parked in front of my house. How had they found me? I pulled to the side of the street half a block away and used the camera I always carry with me and watched through the telescopic lens at the people going in and out. There she was the last woman to ruin my life. The tall redheaded witch. I had failed once, but not twice I thought. I know where she lives.

  Jigsaw Jill:

I had my egg noodle soup in one hand and Katie's leash in the other when the gun fire started. I hit the deck and let the leash go. I always carry and as soon as I spotted the shooter, I fired in his direction, he jumped in his car and took off. My neighbor was in her yard and yelled "I got the dog." So I got back into the Porsche and back out of the driveway like James Garner. With rubber burning off the wheels I took off down the street. Teddy

took the next turn and was a full two blocks ahead. I have a hands free phone and yell 911. I gave my badge number and location as I took the Yellow German two seater up through the gears. I wasn't gaining on the suspect. He was getting all the traffic breaks and I was in a car without cop lights and having to dodge everybody. I could tell he was headed to Sunset. I turned on Sunset and started catching up. I was meeting squad cars and they were turning around to follow. He turned left on Laurel Canyon, he was heading to the hills. I had him now. No way anything in California could out run me on that road. My cell phone rang and it was dispatch linking me into the radio frequency. There was not a car in position to block him on the other end of the canyon road. I grunted a reply and pushed the go peddle down further. I started to bless my father for making me learn all those racing moves and my little sports car just walked up on the other sedan like he had stopped to take a leak.

I was probably the only person in the world that would pull a pit maneuver with a 911 Turbo S Cabriolet but the little all wheel drive spun the other car into the ditch. I slid sideway to a stop and leaned over the back of the car where the engine is. I had my gun out and was waiting for backup. A black and white pulled up about two minutes later and took up position on the other side of the car. As we yelled at the driver to step out and put his hands on his head, a gunshot rang out and the car horn started blaring. Teddy had taken the coward's way and blew out his brains. I lowered my gun and started to shake. The ride up the road had taken all of my adrenaline and now my body was beginning to feel it. One of the cops from my old traffic unit came up and said, "I knew you were going to wreck that flashy car one day." He just slapped me on the back and then he said, "Good job, damn good job."

After a fitful night with my little dog next to me trying her best to comfort a still shaky twenty something skinny red headed plain girl, I got up and headed into the squad room. The guys just nodded to me like it was just any old day. I sat down and the Lt. came in and said, "After the stunt you pulled yesterday, dashing through traffic in a non official car and breaking just about every road law in the state, there is only one thing I can do with you Jigsaw". I looked up as he had never called me that before and I knew he had served with the real Jigsaw Jones. There was a shinny new gold badge in his hand and he handed it to me. "Try not to let the name down." He turned and left. Then I saw that all of the guys knew about it already and were just waiting for me to arrive. This was going to be the rest of my life and I was looking forward to it. But first I had to call Charlie.
