Second Chance for Christmas: A Gay Christmas Romance Page 4

by Avery Ford

Blake sat back to let Toby think about it. He didn’t want to push too hard. If Toby really, really wanted to go back to work, Blake wouldn’t argue. Not too much, anyway.

But he hoped Toby wanted to stay as much as Blake wanted him to.

“I guess you’re right about that,” Toby said, finally. He still looked like he was thinking way too hard about it, but this felt like progress. “It’s not like she doesn’t know how to get in touch with me if she really needs me… But I should still probably give her a call and check in if I’m going to, um… take the rest of the day off.”

Blake didn’t even try to hold back the smile that was currently so big it was making his cheeks hurt. “Definitely check in with her,” Blake nodded, his leg starting to bounce up and down under the table from all the pent-up excitement. “But then you’re coming with me.”

Was it a little pathetic that the prospect of spending the afternoon in the middle of nowhere with Toby really was the most exciting thing that had happened to Blake in weeks? Months?

  Yeah, maybe a little.

  Did Blake care?

  Nope.

  Not at all.

Because it was Toby. They always had a good time together, no matter what. And Toby understood Blake in a way that nobody else had even come close to.

If it wasn’t for the fact that Toby was tied down to Cottonwood Falls, they would have been absolutely perfect for each other.

Then again, moving out to California hadn’t exactly been everything Blake had hoped for, had it?

For all its flaws, at least Blake knew what he could expect here in this small town.

“Where do you want to go?” Toby asked. “I mean, they might get a little annoyed if we stay here taking up this booth all afternoon.”

Blake shrugged. “I’m good with just about anything. We can go walk down by the river. We could go to the park. We could… go back to your place. I’m single. You’re single…”

  “You’re single?” Toby asked. “I thought—I mean… really?”

“You think I would have kissed you last night if I was seeing someone else?” Blake felt his brows knit together. “Come on, Toby. You know me better than that.”

“I used to know you better than that,” Toby frowned. “And I would hope that you wouldn’t do something like that, but… things change. People change. It’s been a long time, Blake.”

  He was right about that.

As familiar as all of this might have felt, it really had been a long time. And Blake had changed—for the better, he hoped. But still, there was no denying it.

“You’re right,” Blake said. “About everything. So spending time together today is a good thing, right? It’s like we’re getting to know each other again.”

Toby had a guarded look now, but he still smiled. “Yeah. It’s like that.”

“Then I think it’s obvious what we need to do…” Blake grinned again as Toby cocked his head to the side. “Now that we’re clear on the relationship status issue, we should definitely go back to your place and get reacquainted.”

“Reacquainted?” Toby’s voice hitched as he swallowed hard. “Back at my place?”

“Yep.” Blake nodded. “Me and you. Your place. Naked. Now.”

  Toby

Toby couldn’t believe this was happening.

He wasn’t upset it was happening—far from it, in fact. It’s literally the thing he’d spent way too many nights lying awake and fantasizing about.

But now that he was actually driving to his house with Blake following him?

It felt… surreal. Like a dream.

A really good dream, for sure. But still a dream.

Toby pulled up in front of his house and waited a second while Blake pulled in behind him. He watched in his side mirror as Blake got out of the car and started walking toward Toby’s truck.

God, how was it possible that Blake was even more good-looking now than he had been back then?

Blake had always—always—been the hottest guy Toby had ever seen. But now he was somehow even hotter.

That shouldn’t even be possible, but Toby felt lucky that it was. Lucky that he was about to see and touch that hard, muscular body again. Lucky that fate or destiny or just… well, luck, had brought Blake back home and into Toby’s arms again.

And sure, he knew it couldn’t last. He knew Blake would go back to L.A. sooner or later. But for now? For today?

Toby was okay with feeling lucky.

“It’s weird to think that you live in this big house all by yourself now,” Blake said, giving Toby a hand as he climbed down out of the truck. “I keep expecting to see your mom and dad come out the front door to say hi.”

“It’s still a little weird for me, too,” Toby confessed, still holding onto Blake’s hand as they slowly walked up to the path to the front door of the old farmhouse. “It took me a while before I felt comfortable moving all of my stuff into their old room. Even now, I still wake up and sort of expect them to be downstairs having coffee and reading the paper, you know?” He shrugged. “I’m glad they’re enjoying their lives down in Florida, though. It helps to know they’re happy.”

Toby could tell from the funny look on Blake’s face that he didn’t really understand. And Toby honestly didn’t expect him to. Blake’s family had always been a lot closer than Toby’s had. He used to love spending time at Blake’s house, watching them all interact and enjoying all of the attention that Blake’s mom gave him.

It took a long time for Toby to stop resenting that his parents weren’t more like Blake’s. He knew they loved him in their own way, though, and well… that just had to be good enough.

Toby opened the door and ushered Blake inside, nearly running into him as Blake suddenly stopped and looked around.

“It’s so weird,” Blake said, grinning as he looked back over his shoulder at Toby. “I know they aren’t here, but it feels like we’re breaking the rules by… you know…”

Toby knew exactly what Blake meant. Back when they used to mess around as teenagers, they had been breaking the rules, sneaking around their parents’ houses and trying not to laugh or knock anything over in the middle of the night.

They were grown now, though. Nobody was going to come down the staircase and yell at them for making out in the foyer if that was what they wanted to do.

Blake turned and put his arms around Toby’s waist, then leaned in to kiss him. “See? Doesn’t it feel like your mom is looking over my shoulder right now?”

Toby crinkled his nose and frowned. “Can we not talk about my mom while you’re kissing me, please? That’s like, the opposite of sexy.”

Blake laughed and kissed him again. “Sorry. I’ll help you get back in the mood.” He paused, then leaned in further to nip at the base of Toby’s neck. “Does this help?”

  Oh, God.

  It really helped.

  A lot.

“Yes,” Toby gasped, tilting his head back as Blake gently pressed him up against the wall. “Don’t stop.”

Blake’s hands slipped up under the front of Toby’s shirt, quickly moving up to tweak Toby’s nipples and pulling another gasp from him. “No way am I gonna stop now, babe. I’ve been wanting to do this ever since I saw you the other day.”

  Babe.

  God.

Why, oh why did this have to feel so right?

Toby lifted his arms as Blake helped him shrug out of his shirt, then closed his eyes as Blake leaned in and teased his nipple with his teeth and tongue.

“Oh my God,” Toby groaned. “Feels so good. Feels…”

  Perfect.

“Want me to keep going, babe?” Blake’s deep voice was even lower than normal and thick with desire. He dropped to his knees, making Toby’s eyes snap open as he felt Blake’s hands fumbling with his belt and then his pants. “Want me to suck you, Toby?”

“Yes,” Toby nodded even though Blake wasn’t looking up at him to see. “Yes, please. Need you… need this.”

  T
oby wasn’t even sure what he was saying anymore. He wasn’t sure of anything except how good it felt to have Blake’s hands on him.

His hands and his mouth. His lips. His tongue.

  God, oh God.

“You’re so hard for me right now, babe,” Blake said, shoving Toby’s pants down and palming his hard length through the thin fabric of his underwear. “Fuck, I’ve missed this perfect cock. You don’t even know…”

Yeah, Toby did know. Well… he had a pretty good idea. Because he felt the same way. He’d missed the way Blake felt against him. Missed the way Blake would say those sweet, dirty things that made Toby’s cock throb so painfully that he thought he might burst before Blake even got a chance to put his lips around it.

And oh, Lord—when Blake finally did pull Toby’s underwear down and wrap a hand around his hard shaft?

  Yeah. Heaven.

“Please,” Toby moaned, not even caring that he was begging now. “Stroke me. Suck me… please just… ah—”

His eyes rolled back in his head as Blake responded by taking Toby’s cock all the way down to the base, massaging the head and shaft with his tongue and throat muscles until Toby had to reach down and thread his fingers through Blake’s hair just to hold himself steady.

And okay, maybe he was also guiding Blake’s head up and down on his cock just a little, too.

“Feels so good,” Toby gasped. “Feels… oh, God. I could come right now, Blake.”

Blake rocked back on his heels and shook his head as he looked up at Toby. “Not yet, babe. We’re gonna come together.”

He was up and on his feet again before Toby could even respond. In just a few seconds, Blake’s cock was out, too, and then his body was pressed against Toby’s, his hand wrapped around both of their shafts at the same time.

Toby closed his eyes and let the sensations overtake him as Blake kissed him, stroked him, whispered sweet, hot, dirty things to him that made Toby moan and whimper and beg for more.

He could feel his balls start to tighten as Blake started stroking him faster. The feel of Blake’s cock sliding against his was more than he could take.

“Are you ready, babe?” Blake asked. “Ready to come with me?”

“So ready,” Toby answered. “Please, please… please.”

“I’ve got you,” Blake said. “Just let go, babe. Come for me… now.”

And that one simple command was enough to push Toby over the edge, his orgasm hitting him like a tidal wave that would have knocked him off his feet if Blake hadn’t been right there to hold him steady.

  Right there.

Just the way he’d always been before.

  Just the way Toby remembered.

  Blake

Blake couldn’t tell if he was awake or still dreaming.

He didn’t want to open his eyes yet, just in case.

The way Toby’s body felt curled up against his had to be a dream, though, right? It was just too good to be real.

As if he’d been reading Blake’s mind, Toby murmured something in his sleep and nuzzled his head against Blake’s bicep. This had to be what heaven felt like.

Blake finally cracked open an eye just so he could get another look at that beautiful face. It was dark in Toby’s room, and for a moment Blake was a little disoriented.

How long had they been there, sleeping like that?

It felt like it couldn’t have been more than just a few minutes, but it had been late afternoon when they had fallen into bed, exhausted from the back-to-back orgasms they’d given each other. The first one just inside the front door, and then the second one shortly after that in Toby’s bedroom.

Blake smiled at the memory. He’d thought about Toby a lot over the years, but this—the real thing—was so much better than the fantasies he’d had. So much better than even the actual memories he had from when they were together before.

They’d been teenagers back then, though. Clumsy and fumbling and probably a little too eager to fully appreciate everything that was happening.

This had felt different. Familiar in some ways, of course, but still different.

He let his arms roam down Toby’s naked back, unable to stop himself from touching, caressing, cupping those firm, sexy ass cheeks in his hands one more time.

Blake had been a fool to leave all this—to leave Toby—behind and move to California. He wondered for a moment if he would have made the same decision if he’d had a chance to do it over again.

There were certainly plenty of other mistakes he’d made along the way that he would take back if he could. But then again… L.A. had helped make him the man he was today. He had grown a lot, matured a lot since leaving Kansas.

Would he and Toby have even made it as a couple if Blake had stayed? They had been so young and naive back then, and of all the other high school sweethearts in his school, Blake was pretty sure none of them were still together now.

So where did that leave Blake and Toby?

Together in bed, naked and satisfied… and wondering what it all meant.

“What time is it?” Toby’s voice was barely above a whisper.

He sounded just as exhausted as Blake felt from all of their sexy time. But Blake definitely didn’t regret a single second of it.

“I don’t know, babe,” Blake said, truthfully. “I didn’t mean to wake you. I just couldn’t keep my hands to myself.”

Toby laughed. “I’ll let you wake me up like that anytime. But damn… I didn’t even realize I’d fallen asleep.” He raised up a little on his elbow and then flopped back down against Blake’s side. “I guess you probably have to get back home soon…”

Blake brushed Toby’s hair back from his forehead and kissed him there. “I don’t need to be anywhere but right here, babe.”

“Really?” Toby’s voice caught in his throat. Blake loved how his tone had instantly switched from guarded to hopeful. “You’ll stay here with me tonight?”

“If that’s what you want.” Blake kissed him again.

“It is.” Toby nodded. “Stay with me just like this. All night.”

Blake wrapped both arms around Toby, pulling him tight and getting rewarded with another laugh that turned into a sexy moan as their bodies fully pressed against each other.

“I’ll be here,” Blake said. “Just like this.” And then he stole one more kiss, just because he could. “All night.”

  Toby

Toby wasn’t usually a morning person.

Actually, that was putting it pretty mildly.

He hated mornings. Until he’d had at least two cups of coffee and about an hour to fully wake up, he didn’t want to talk or be seen by anyone.

  Not this morning, though.

Waking up in Blake’s arms felt so good, so right, that Toby was pretty sure he’d had a smile on his face the moment his eyes opened.

And yeah, the morning sunlight was there, trying to be a nuisance and trying to remind Toby that this was definitely not his favorite time of day—but he didn’t care.

He was in Blake’s arms again. How it had happened didn’t make any sense at all, but it felt so, so good. And honestly?

Toby didn’t want to question it too much.

  Not yet.

  Not today.

“Good morning,” Blake said, giving Toby a quick kiss before letting his hands run up and down Toby’s back again. “I kept hoping it would stay dark for a little while longer so we’d have an excuse to stay in bed.”

Toby’s smile grew wider. He had forgotten over the years how much Blake liked to touch him—just like Toby had also forgotten how much his own body craved the attention and the amazing way it felt to have that head-to-toe, skin-on-skin contact with Blake.

“Do we need an excuse to stay in bed?” Toby asked. “Pretty sure nobody is going to run in here and make us get up.”

Blake quirked an eyebrow. “Hey, I’m down for whatever. I just know how much I had to twist your arm for you to take off work yesterday afternoon. I figured two days
in a row would be out of the question, but I’m happy to be wrong about that.”

Toby frowned, then sighed. “No… you’re not wrong. I wish you were, but I can’t leave Nina there to pick up my slack for a second day—tempting as it might be.”

  And it was tempting.

  Really, really tempting.

Toby reached out and ran a hand along the hard planes of Blake’s chest and abs, just to tempt and torture himself a little more. And really, Toby couldn’t blame himself too much. Blake was just too sexy not to touch.

“How long until you have to be at work?” Blake asked.

Toby wrinkled his nose and turned over to get his phone off the bedside table. “About an hour. That gives us time for a shower together, at least. Maybe even some breakfast if we hurry.”

Blake laughed. “I can’t promise I’ll hurry if I get in the shower with you. But I can promise that I’d rather miss breakfast than miss the chance to make you come again this morning.”

Toby sucked in a sharp breath as an electric jolt shot straight down to his cock. He was pretty sure he’d been hard the entire time he’d been lying there next to Blake, and he probably should have been tired from all the attention Blake had given his cock and ass and body.

But now? With the promise of a little more of that same attention?

Yeah, his cock was totally on board.

“Well…” Toby bit his lip as he tossed the bedsheets aside and swung his feet over the edge of the bed. “Nina probably won’t mind if I’m running a little late this morning…”

Blake was already up and off the bed, meeting Toby with another kiss before leading him toward the bathroom. “I like the way you’re thinking. I might have time to make you come twice.”

Toby’s cock jerked at Blake’s words, and a low moan escaped Toby’s lips.

  God, yes.

He was totally going to be late for work.

And it was going to be totally worth it.
