“Oh God.” She crosses her arms quickly, a peachy, scarlet flush flowing into her cooled porcelain cheeks.
“Sorry.” I stare at anything but the girl and eat up hardwood as I find my seat. “Please. Sit while we wait for Patrice to come back.”
Harper drags her jacket from the arm of the couch over her chest as she sits, clutching it like a teddy bear.
She’s young, this girl, and I may be a brute for picturing her curves and the parts of her body that bloom rose-like and sweet. Yet, I was a poet before I ever became a lyricist, and I can’t help but appreciate a woman, even one that damns herself into a grave within five seconds of meeting her.
I’m almost thirty. I can’t be eyeing a girl barely over the legal drinking age who could be my kid’s nanny.
