Afterwards, they lay curled together in contented silence. Only one doubt marred his happiness. Although she seemed to handle the shop and their daughters—and him—with effortless ease, his instincts demanded that he protect her. Her small body was so delicate compared to his.
“I am concerned that this pregnancy will be too much for you. You do so much already.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.”
“Perhaps we should hire additional help.”
“We can if we need to, but I’m not worried about it. I have a good team working for me, I’ve got the support of our friends and family, and most of all, I have you.” Her hand reached up and cupped his cheek, her face so full of love that his heart ached. “You have given me everything I ever wanted.”
“As have you.” She had given him love, hope, and a second chance for a family. “I love you, my letari.”
“I love you too.”
She yawned and snuggled closer. He wrapped his arms around her as they drifted off to sleep to the gentle sounds of the fountain in their new house, in the new world they had built, together.
